Assembly Instructions Step 1 Label Body Tubes Mark all 4 Body Tubes as A, B, C, and D at this time. Step 2 Assemble Motor Mount Assemble the motor mount with the included directions. Fillet centering rings and allow assembly to dry. (Steps 3-7 deal with Body Tube A) Step 3 Marking Body Tube A Locate and cut out the included tube marking guide. Mark Body Tube A 6 from end.
Step 4 Cut & Sand Fins Locate and cut out the included fin pattern. Using a fresh hobby knife cut out the fins. You will need 4 for this kit. Hold all 4 fins together and sand until edges are identical. Step 5 - Motor Mount Installation Install motor mount into Body Tube A. Aft centering ring should be appx. 1/8 from end of body tube as shown. Using a scrap piece of balsa, smear a ring of glue approximately 1.75 into Body Tube A. Insert motor mount assembly in one smooth continuous motion. Fillet exposed centering rings. Step 6 Glue Fins To Body Tube A Using the lines on the tube as a guide. Glue fins into place on Body Tube A. Fins should be flush with the end of the body tube.
Allow fins to dry. When fins have dried fully lay in your fillets. Step 7 - Launch Lugs 2 launch lugs are used with this kit. The first launch lug should be placed (centered) between any 2 fins 1 from the base of the body tube. The second launch lug should be placed in line with the first at the top of the body tube.
Step 8 Body Tube B Coupler Installation Test fit a T-80 coupler in Body Tube B. Make sure you can get it in fairly easily. It should be snug but not difficult to insert. Sand coupler lightly if necessary. After you are sure of a proper fit, glue coupler halfway into Body Tube B. Mark the exposed end with a pencil. This end will connect to Body Tube A in a later step. Step 9 - Baffle Screw Eye Locate the pre-assembled BoRocks! Baffle and a screw eye. Install the screw eye into the end of the baffle that has 5 holes. We recommend screwing in the screw eye and then removing it. Fill the resulting hole with glue and reinsert the screw eye. Allow to dry. Step 10 Bulkhead Screw Eye Locate the pre-assembled T-80 bulkhead. Following the same procedure as the previous step install a screw eye into the epoxy coated end. We recommend placing the screw eye off-center in the plate. Set aside.
Step 11 Baffle Installation Tie Kevlar cord to the screw eye on the baffle. Use a drop of glue on the knot. Install the baffle into Body Tube B exactly the same way you installed the coupler. The side of the baffle with the screw eye should be OUTSIDE the tube. Glue baffle in to the halfway point. Half of the baffle should be protruding. Allow to dry. Step 12 Connect Body Tubes A & B Now we will be putting Body Tubes A & B together using the T-80 coupler you already installed. Smear glue in the open end of Body Tube A. Insert coupler from Body Tube B in a smooth continuous motion. Allow joint to dry for a couple of minutes. Step 13 Connect Body Tube A/B to Body Tube C Drop the end of the Kevlar cord through Body Tube C. Smear a ring of glue in the end of Body Tube C and connect Body Tube A/B to Body Tube C. Now you should have 3 18 pieces of T-80 tube glued solidly together. Trim excess kevlar until you have about 6 protruding from the open end.
Step 14 Kevlar Cord & Elastic Shock Cord Installation Tie a loop in the end of the Kevlar cord. Tie the elastic shock cord to the loop. Glue both knots. Tie a snap swivel to the end of the elastic cord, glue this knot as well. Step 15 Body Tube D & Bulkhead Installation Using the same technique as in past steps glue the T-80 bulkhead into either end of Body Tube D to the halfway point. The end with the screw eye should be exposed. NOTE! This is the rockets separation point...do NOT...glue the coupler into Body Tube C. Snap the elastic cord to the screw eye on the bulkhead. Step 16 - Nose Cone Installation Glue nose cone into Body Tube D opposite of the bulkhead. Step 17 - Parachute Assemble chute Tie shroud lines to the remaining swivel Tie remaining piece of Kevlar cord to swivel. Stretch assembled rocket out. Tie chute to elastic shock cord using remaining Kevlar cord halfway between Body Tube C and D. *Note: This rocket can also be setup to use multiple chutes, one for upper section and one for lower section. Your BoRocks! Rocketry Mega Mag! is now fully assembled. Paint rocket with your own unique design. Submit a picture to borockster@gmail.com and you may win a prize!
Flight Preparation The Mega Mag! requires no wadding. Simply fold chute and place into tube C. Drop shock cord in on top of chute. Reassemble rocket. Recommended engines: 3 Estes D12/3/5 or 3 Estes E9-4.
Model Rocket Safety Code 1 Materials. I will use only lightweight, non-metal parts for the nose, body, and fins of my rocket. 2 Motors. I will use only certified, commercially-made model rocket motors, and will not tamper with these motors or use them for any purposes except those recommended by the manufacturer. 3 Ignition System. I will launch my rockets with an electrical launch system and electrical motor igniters. My launch system will have a safety interlock in series with the launch switch, and will use a launch switch that returns to the "off" position when released. 4 Misfires. If my rocket does not launch when I press the button of my electrical launch system, I will remove the launcher's safety interlock or disconnect its battery, and will wait 60 seconds after the last launch attempt before allowing anyone to approach the rocket. 5 Launch Safety. I will use a countdown before launch, and will ensure that everyone is paying attention and is a safe distance of at least 15 feet away when I launch rockets with D motors or smaller, and 30 feet when I launch larger rockets. If I am uncertain about the safety or stability of an untested rocket, I will check the stability before flight and will fly it only after warning spectators and clearing them away to a safe distance. 6 Launcher. I will launch my rocket from a launch rod, tower, or rail that is pointed to within 30 degrees of the vertical to ensure that the rocket flies nearly straight up, and I will use a blast deflector to prevent the motor's exhaust from hitting the ground. To prevent accidental eye injury, I will place launchers so that the end of the launch rod is above eye level or will cap the end of the rod when it is not in use. 7 Size. My model rocket will not weigh more than 1,500 grams (53 ounces) at lift off and will not contain more than 125 grams (4.4 ounces) of propellant or 320 N-sec (71.9 pound-seconds) of total impulse. If my model rocket weighs more than one pound (453 grams) at lift off or has more than four ounces (113 grams) of propellant, I will check and comply with Federal Aviation Administration regulations before flying. 8 Flight Safety. I will not launch my rocket at targets, into clouds, or near airplanes, and will not put any flammable or explosive payload in my rocket. 9 Launch Site. I will launch my rocket outdoors, in an open area at least as large as shown in the accompanying table, and in safe weather conditions with wind speeds no greater than 20 miles per hour. I will ensure that there is no dry grass close to the launch pad, and that the launch site does not present risk of grass fires. 10 Recovery System. I will use a recovery system such as a streamer or parachute in my rocket so that it returns safely and undamaged and can be flown again, and I will use only flameresistant or fireproof recovery system wadding in my rocket. 11 Recovery Safety. I will not attempt to recover my rocket from power lines, tall trees, or other dangerous places.
