Creating and Printing A2 Size Cards in My Digital Studio In this tutorial we will be creating and printing a regular 4 ¼ x 5 ½ size card. After the card is printed, you can further embellish it according to your own preferences. Since the newly available download of Summertime Splendor seems quite popular, we will design a simple card using that Designer Kit option. 1. Start My Digital Studio by double clicking the icon on your desktop. Creative Paper Treasures Page 1 of 28
2. When My Digital Studio loading and opens on your computer, the NEW PROJECT OPTIONS window will be the first screen that you will see. 3. Left click on GREETING CARD option. 4. After selecting the GREETING CARD option, the next screen will give you some choices to make for your cards. We will be making a 4 ½ x 5 ½ Landscape card. Left click to select 4 ¼ x 5 ½ LANDSCAPE Creative Paper Treasures Page 2 of 28
5. The next screen will ask you to CHOOSE A TEMPLATE. Left click on CREATE YOUR OWN. 6. My Digital Studio will then ask you to give your project a name and will tell you where it will save your project. Type a name that you will remember in the box. I chose to call my project A2 Landscape Card Tutorial. You can choose to save your project in a different folder by left clicking on the Change Location button and choose a different folder. We will accept the default. Then left click on OK. Creative Paper Treasures Page 3 of 28
7. The next screen is where you will choose a page template. Left click Blank Page to select that layout if it is not already highlighted. Left click OK to accept that selection. 8. A blank screen or workspace will open with the message box telling you about the card bleed area. This the gray area around your white workspace. This information is especially useful if you are going to upload your card to Stampin Up for printing. Left click on the OK button to close the box. Creative Paper Treasures Page 4 of 28
9. We will need to reduce the size of the screen a little so we can see the whole card front. Left click on the minus sign once to reduce the workspace to 75%. After left clicking the minus sign once, you can now see the whole card front. Note that the zoom percentage is displayed in the box and can be also chosen by clicking the down arrow. Creative Paper Treasures Page 5 of 28
Also note the card bleed area around the workspace. (The gray box around the workspace.) Creative Paper Treasures Page 6 of 28
10. Now the fun begins. We will start creating our card. If you will notice the ruler across the top and left side of the workspace. The top measures 0 to 5 ½ and the left side measures 0 to 4 ¼. This is showing you the front of the A2 card only. a. First we will add the Floral Layer. Left click on Photos to expand the list. b. Left click on Photo Box to add a photo box to the workspace. Creative Paper Treasures Page 7 of 28
11. This will put a large dark gray box with small light gray squares on the workspace. These light gray squares are sizing boxes. We will not be using these sizing boxes in this tutorial, since I ve already done the work and figured out the size we ll need to print this card. 12. We will need to size this dark gray box to the correct size for the mat. Right click on the dark gray box to display the menu to edit object. Creative Paper Treasures Page 8 of 28
13. Left Click on Edit Object to display the Object Settings Box. 14. This will display the Object Settings Box. (If you would like a little more information on this box, see my tutorial titled MDS Object Settings Box Tutorial posted on my website at I have figured out the size in pixels to print this card with a little white border. Please change the numbers in the box displayed on your screen to the ones shown on the right. Uncheck the Keep Proportions box to type different numbers in the width and height boxes. When finished left click the red X in the upper right corner of the box to close it. 15. After changing these numbers your workspace should look like this. A large rectangle photo box covering the workspace with a white border. Creative Paper Treasures Page 9 of 28

16. Now we need to display the Summertime Splendor DSP that is needed for this project. On the left side of the workspace is the Resource Palette to display photos, embellishments, stamps, punches, photo layouts and background papers. The last little picture is the background paper selection. Left click to select this option. Then left click to select BROWSE. Creative Paper Treasures Page 11 of 28
17. The next screen should be the one which opens. 18. Left click the plus sign next to Designer Series Paper to expand the list. We will need to left click the plus sign next to Designer Kits in order to select the Summertime Splendor background paper Creative Paper Treasures Page 12 of 28
19. By left clicking to expand the Designer Kits option, you will see all the designer kits that you have installed in MDS on your computer 20. Find Summertime Splendor in the list and left click to select it, then click OPEN. Creative Paper Treasures Page 13 of 28
21. All the images included in the Summertime Splendor Designer kit should be displayed on the left side of the screen under the Resource Palette. 22. We will now add the picture from the left side of the workspace to our Creative Paper Treasures Page 14 of 28
photo box. Scroll down until you see the picture you would like to add. I have chosen the orchids for my project. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the picture to the photo box then release the mouse button. This is the results after dragging and dropping the picture to the photo box. 23. If you are satisfied with the results of your picture then you need not perform the next step. However, sometimes you will only get a portion of the picture in the photo box. If that has happened, then do the next step. Double click on the photo and the Crop Photo box will display. As you can see there are portions of the picture not selected as indicated by the arrows. You can hold down the left mouse button and drag the rectangle up or down to select the portion of the picture you would like on your card. After dragging the rectangle up or down, release the mouse button. I chose to move the box up. Click OK when you are satisfied with your selection. Creative Paper Treasures Page 15 of 28
24. We will add a photo mat to our picture. Left click on your picture to make the photo option available. On the right side of the workspace, left click the Photo Mat button. 25. This will open the Mat Properties box to set the size and color of the mat. a. To set the mat size, move the slider over to 17. You will notice the white border around the picture getting wider. b. To change the color, left click on the Change. Button. Creative Paper Treasures Page 16 of 28
c. The Mat Color box displays where you can pick the color of your mat. I chose Elegant Eggplant for my mat color. (If you hold your mouse pointer over each of the colored squares, the color name will appear.) d. Left click the color of your choice and that color will show up in the Preview pane of the Mat Color Box. Left Click OK when finished. Creative Paper Treasures Page 17 of 28
e. That will take you back to the Mat Properties Box with the color of our mat showing in the Preview Box. If your mat does not show up in the Preview window, make sure the Enable Mat box is checked. If you are satisfied with the color and size of the mat, then left click the OK button. Otherewise go back and repeat Steps 25 b through d. 26. The workspace is now displayed with the mat you have selected surrounding the picture. Creative Paper Treasures Page 18 of 28
Creative Paper Treasures Page 19 of 28
27. We will now add a greeting to the front of the card. On the left side of the workspace, under the Resource Palette, left click the Stamp icon to access the stamps. NOTE: You could print this card now and add your greeting after printing. Making this a hybrid card. 28. Left click Browse to find the stamp set you would like to use. I chose Well Scripted for the Birthday Greeting. Left click on the stamp set you would like to use and then left click Open. Creative Paper Treasures Page 20 of 28
29. The stamp set is now displayed in the Resource Palette. Find the stamp that you would like to use on your card. Hold the left mouse button down over the stamp and drag it over to your card and release the mouse button. This is the results of dragging and dropping the birthday stamp to my card. I feel that the birthday greeting is a little too big for this card, so I ll have to resize it. 30. To resize the birthday greeting, left click to select it. This will make the little sizing boxes appear around the greeting. To resize the image proportionately, hold the left mouse button down over one of the corner boxes on the greeting and drag the box in toward the center and release. Here is the result of resizing my greeting. Creative Paper Treasures Page 21 of 28
31. If you are satisfied with your card, we can now start setting the printer and printing options. 32. Left click on Share Project on the Menu Bar and left click Print from the drop down menu. 33. My Digital Studio will ask you if you would like to save your project, if you have not already done so, left click yes. Creative Paper Treasures Page 22 of 28
34. After it modifies page builds, the next screen is displayed. Left click the box above the card to select it for printing. Left click the Print Setup Box to set the printing option for the printer you will be using on your computer. 35. The page setup box is displayed. We will need to change the margin settings but first the type of paper needs to be changed as well as setting the borderless option. Left click Printer to access the printer settings for your printer. Creative Paper Treasures Page 23 of 28
36. This will open the Page Setup box. I m using an Epson Workforce 610 which I have setup on a wireless network. Your printer setting may not display the exact same information but each photo printer should have basically the same settings. These settings may be accessed differently. If your printer does not display in the Name box, select the down arrow and pick the printer you will be printing on. Once the correct printer is displayed, left click the Properties button. 37. This is what the Properties box looks like for my printer. I need to change the paper type in order to get borderless printing. a. I set the Qualtiy Option to Photo. b. The Paper Type needed to be changed from plain paper in order to get borderless printing. I chose presentation matte since it s the closest setting to cardstock. c. After changing the paper type, I was able to select Borderless printing. d. After all the settings were changed, left click OK. Creative Paper Treasures Page 24 of 28
38. The Page Setup Box should now be displayed to change the margins. Change the margins to match the numbers in the picture on the left. Then left click OK. 39. The Print Options Box should now be displayed. We have one more setting to change to print this card on an 8 ½ x 11 inch cardstock so all you ll need to do is cut the paper in half and fold the card. Left click the Advanced button to access the advanced print option for My Digital Studio. Creative Paper Treasures Page 25 of 28
39. The MDS Advanced Print Options box is displayed. When you first access this screen, you ll notice that the card is centered in preview area. We will fix the settings so the card will print on half the cardstock. 40. Change the Image Layout Adjustment setting to Custom Layout by clicking the down arrow and selecting it from the list. The margins should be the same as those we set in Step 38. Left click OK. Creative Paper Treasures Page 26 of 28
41. This brings you back to the Print Options screen where you will left click on OK to start Printing your card. Creative Paper Treasures Page 27 of 28
42. After left clicking OK on the box above, the Printer Print Box is displayed. Left click OK to send your printer the message to start printing. After printing, cut your cardstock at 5 ½ inches and you should now have a 4 ¼ x 5 ½ landscape card to fold in half. I hope these instructions have helped you to print your cards on your home printer. I realize that every printer is different and there are quite a few printers on the market. Check your printer settings and manual for some similar settings as I have outlined here.
