2 IB Mission Statement The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

3 Overview of the IB programs The IB offers three high quality and challenging educational programs for a worldwide community of schools. The IB currently works with more than 971,000 students at 3,293 schools in 141 countries. IB Diploma Programme for students in the final two years of secondary school There are 744 Diploma Programmes in the US, 2,295 in the world. IB Middle Years Programme for students ages There are 445 Middle Years Programmes in the US, 917 in the world. IBO 10/30/2011 IB Primary Years Programme for students ages 3-12 There are 296 Primary Years Programmes in the US, 847 in the world. Only 24 schools in North America and the Caribbean offer a PYP-MYP-DP Continuum.

9 IB Middle Years Programme at Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School The Middle Years Programme (MYP) provides a curriculum which allows students to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to participate effectively in life in the 21 st century. The concept of balance is fundamental to the program. Broad base of disciplines to develop knowledge and skills Objectives include skills and processes As students mature and develop, disciplines increase in depth of knowledge and understanding Emphasis is on the development of the whole child (effective, cognitive, creative, and physical) Encourages students to consider different perspectives to develop understanding of what is common and what is different Internationalism is explored in each subject and in the entire program IBO 2003
