2 What is Marketing? The idea is simple enough. Generally speaking, there are two types of customers for a business; one is the current customer that buys from you, the other is the potential customer that WILL buy from you. You need to communicate with them to make sure your business survives and eventually, thrives. You may make phone calls, use ads on TV, in print media or internet advertising etc. Why? To communicate with your two types of customers, of course! Then, Marketing is communication with your customer via . The thing is, not many businesses use marketing to offset costs and effectively reach their customer base (current and potential, both). Note: even if your business does not have a large customer base, using Marketing still is the MOST effective way of reaching your current and potential customers. 3 If you are not convinced that Marketing is going to help you get more sales for your business (your business may be online, offline, or both!), then the following reasons should give you the inspiration to get at it immediately. 1. Marketing is damn easy! The problem with Marketing WAS that it was cumbersome; that is not the case anymore. In fact, now it is set and forget. Using Marketing companies like Aweber, you will be on your way in no time. All you need is to collect the addresses of your existing customers, and you can immediately start building a relationship with them. You just have to write an series, and then decide the frequency and you are done. No matter if 10 people are joining the list or a 1000, you do not have to do anything else. It is AUTOMATED! 4 2. Marketing Builds Trust Businesses work on relationships. To be more exact, it is the trust that you customer puts in you that eventually leads to money in your pocket. Each sale is a way of showing trust and also as a way of building further trust (if your product is good enough). Therefore, all smart businesses focus on building trust, the great ones at least. marketing helps you reach out to your customer, giving them exclusive, helpful ideas and they in return, remain loyal to you. 5 3. Marketing is Measurable If you have ever used traditional media for advertising, you'd know how much of a hit-and-miss it can be. Once you'd see how measurable Marketing is, you will love it. You get to see how many people responded to your , how many clicked on the links, how many bought the product you were promoting etc. With clear and intuitive interface, you only need to be 'comfortable' with computers to 'get it'. 6 4. Anyone Can Do It No technical skills as such are required. You as a small business owner can run your own campaigns, or you can easily get a person who 'knows how to operate a computer' to run full-fledged Campaigns. That is how easy it has become nowadays. 5. Marketing is your Market Pulse If you want to introduce a new service or product, why not ask your existing customers? And what better way to not only ask them, but track results than through marketing! 6. You can Segment Your List Maybe out of the hundreds (or tens) of your customers, few of them prefer one thing over the other? Maybe it would be better if you communicate to one group of customers who live in say, New York a bit differently than the ones who live in Tokyo? You can segment your list easily, and the benefits can be huge. You can segment within segments to have a well-trimmed, wellgroomed list of customers (or potential customers) to market to. 7 7. Marketing Gets Noticed marketing is all based on 'permission marketing'. The person on your list is already interested in what you have to say because he or she 'opted in' to your list. So services like Aweber are great on deliverability and the s you send are not destined for the Spam folders. This means your s get read. Which means your message is being delivered and your marketing functions are being performed. Like I said, this is the EXACT OPPOSITE of spam s. People on the list have opted in. 8. Marketing is now a System Being a small business owner, you already know the importance of systems. marketing is not off-the-cuff or hit-and-trial. There are proper systems in place and very easy to understand methods that are used to deliver and track s. IF you are even building a list and collecting addresses of potential customers, you can very easy integrate the Marketing SYSTEM into your online presence. You can Automate Most of Your Marketing With well thought-out series of s, you can literally 'set and forget' your campaigns. s will be sent to the list of your choice at times selected by you, without anyone's interference. You can easily write a set of say, 12 s that will 'automatically' be ed to your list (you choose which segment of which list). You do this once, and all else is automatically handled. Like stated earlier, Marketing is now a system! 10. Marketing is Cheap Really, you should call it affordable, it sounds nicer! But it is true. For example, the marketing system that I use (and obviously recommend) is called AWeber and it costs me US $19 per month. Any on-a-budget entrepreneur like myself will tell you, that is well within even the monthly 'entertainment' budget! (Note: And for that price, AWeber is not going to give you a 'locked down' version of the software or anything like that. ) Report brought to you by BLOGSTARTA Page 8

9 11. You Can Check Up From Anywhere Your marketing system resides online so this means you can access it from anywhere in the world. Not only that, there are applications you can download on your phone (these applications are free) to access and check up on your marketing performance. Note: There is no data to safeguard on your end either, so no backup costs etc. And you can easily export your list from online and use it in any way you deem fit. 10 12. You Can Expand Your Business (or start a new one!) Think about this one for a minute now. It is always easier to sell to existing customers. Marketing does that for you. But you can always ASK your customers (easily via an campaign) and decide not only on new products, but new businesses. You can do joint-ventures with other businesses and make offer to your list, providing them with valuable information and earning a healthy income at the same time. is now considered the new WORD OF MOUTH as your existing customers may forward your or share it on Twitter or Facebook. 11 13. Marketing actually works In 2010, DMA (Direct Marketing Association) stated that on average, every $1 spent on marketing makes you $42. Do the maths.
