2 1. Turn the power off for any devices that will be attached to the Yak modem. 2. Connect the DSL line to the DSL jack using the provided grey RJ11 (telephone) cable. The DSL WAN line connection is configured for connection by default. 3. Connect the PC, hub, or switch to the LAN ports. (A straightthrough yellow Ethernet cable (provided), or a crossover cable can be used.) The modem automatically determines the type of signal required. Switch 4. Attach the power adapter. (The supplied power adapter may look different than the one illustrated here.) 5. Turn on the modem and any devices attached to it. 6. Wait five to ten minutes for these three LED lights to turn on: Power, DSL and Internet. Once lit, the Yak High Speed Internet service is available for use. NOTE: Slots and openings in the unit are provided for ventilation. To ensure reliable operation of the product, and to protect it from overheating, these slots and openings must not be blocked, or covered. 4 Access Control allows one to change the password to restrict access to the modem s user interface. When the modem is first received from Yak, it will already have a password set. The default user name is admin, and the default password is admin, plus the last three digits of the modem s serial number. (Example: admin123.) 1. Access the modem at the gateway address: 2. When prompted, enter one s username and current password. The screen will change to the main page, Device Info. In the menu on the left, click on Management, then Access Control, and finally, Passwords. 4

5 3. The screen will change to the Access Control - Passwords page. Enter the required information: Username: The default is admin. Old Password: Current password. (The default is admin, plus the last three digits of the modem s serial number. (Example: admin123.)) New Password: Desired password. Confirm Password: Desired password, again. 4. Save changes by clicking Apply/Save. This concludes the Access Control setup. 5

6 Bridge Mode is only required if one chooses to use their own router instead of the one built into the modem. 1. Access the modem at the gateway address: 2. When prompted, enter one s username and current password. The screen will change to the main page, Device Info. In the menu on the left, click on Advanced Setup, then WAN Service. 6

7 3. The screen will change to the Wide Area Network (WAN) Service Setup page. The modem cannot be set to Bridge Mode until the current WAN service is removed. Check the box in the Remove column, then click the Remove button. 7

8 4. The list will now be empty. Setting up Bridge Mode can begin by clicking the Add button. 8

9 5. The screen will change to the WAN Service Interface Configuration page. There will be only one menu choice: atm0/(0_0_35). Select it and click Next. 9

10 6. The screen will change to the WAN Service Configuration page. Under Select WAN service type, click on the Bridging button. 7. The field beside Enter Service Description will populate with br_0_0_35. This can be left alone. 8. Click the Next button to continue. 10

11 9. The screen will change to the WAN Setup Summary page. 10. Save changes by clicking Apply/Save. Continued on the next page. 11

12 11. The screen will return to the Wide Area Network (WAN) Service Setup page. 12. Confirm that Bridge Mode is now set by what appears in the Type column. This concludes the Bridge Mode setup. 12

13 PPPoE Mode is only required if one has set their modem to Bridge Mode, but wishes to return it to a regular modem setup. When the modem is first received from Yak, it will already have been set to PPPoE Mode. 1. Access the modem at the gateway address: 2. When prompted, enter one s username and current password. The screen will change to the main page, Device Info. In the menu on the left, click on Advanced Setup, then WAN Service. 13

23 Port Forwarding is used to enable openings in the firewall to allow programs to communicate through a network. 1. Access the modem at the gateway address: 2. When prompted, enter one s username and current password. The screen will change to the main page, Device Info. In the menu on the left, click on Advanced Setup, then NAT, and finally, Virtual Servers. 23

24 3. The screen will change to the NAT Virtual Servers Setup page. Click the Add button to begin setup. 24

25 4. The screen will change to the NAT Virtual Servers page. There are many pre-built specifications for the more common services that will fill in details automatically. If the one being used is not listed, it will have to be created manually. 5. If the service is listed, select it and click Apply/Save. Continue on page

26 Custom Service Setup 6. If the service is not listed, type a name for the service beside Custom Service. In the example on the right is Yak Digital Home Phone. 7. Enter the Server IP Address, the address to forward the ports to. (In the Yak Digital Home Phone example, it is the IP address given to the ATA by the modem.) 8. Enter the port ranges required into the External and Internal Port Start and Port End fields. In the example for Yak Digital Home Phone, it requires port ranges and to be opened, entered as: External/Internal Port Start: 5060 External/Internal Port End: 5061 External/Internal Port Start: External/Internal Port End: Set the Protocol to TCP, UDP, or TCP/UDP. (Yak Digital Home Phone uses TCP/UDP). 10. Save changes by clicking Apply/Save. 26

27 11. The screen will return to the NAT Virtual Servers Setup page, where the new service will be listed. This concludes the Port Forwarding setup. 27

28 Static IP Reservation is used to establish a permanent IP address for a device on a network. If Port Forwarding was setup, the IP address used for the service will need to be designated here. 1. Access the modem at the gateway address: 2. When prompted, enter one s username and current password. The screen will change to the main page, Device Info. In the menu on the left, click on Advanced Setup, then LAN. 28

29 3. The screen will change to the Local Area Network (LAN) Setup page. Leave the default settings and click on the Add Entries button. 29

30 4. The screen will change to the DHCP Static IP Lease page. Enter the required details: MAC Address: Example: AB:CD:EF:12:34:56 IP Address: Example: Save changes by clicking Apply/Save. 30

31 6. The screen will return to the Local Area Network (LAN) Setup page. Listed underneath Static IP Lease List will be the details of the device that was added. If more devices need to be added, another entry will be required for each. This concludes the Static IP Reservation setup. 31

32 Modem Not Connecting To Internet The modem s Power, DSL and Internet lights should be solid. If the DSL light is flashing, the modem is trying to connect to the DSLAM for Internet Access, but this should take less than thirty seconds. If the modem DSL light continues to flash for several minutes, try these steps: 1. Confirm that the DSL telephone cable is directly connected to the phone jack. (No splitters, or filters.) The DSL telephone cable should also not be longer than six feet (nine meters). 2. The Yak Modem has a built in router, but if there is a separate router being used, try connecting the computer directly to the modem. If this works, the issue may lie with the separate router. 3. If the DSL line runs over the same line as voice service, test to see if it is a faulty DSL filter. Unplug any filters and test the modem again. If it works, a filter may need to be replaced. If it does not, test the line for noise, or static, while the modem is OFF. If there is, it may be necessary to contact one s local service provider for repair. 32

33 4. Power cycle the modem by turning it off for a couple of minutes. Turn the modem back on and observe the boot process should take no more than thirty seconds with all three lights in a steady state: Power, DSL and Internet. 5. There may be an issue with the account ID and password setup when the modem boots up. Go to the Access Control section and verify the correct ID and password is set for the modem. 6. Try installing the DSL telephone cable into a different phone jack. 7. Contact Yak Internet Support if none of the above resolves the issue. 33
