3 Helping Other People Opening Materials: Word strips for Cub Scouts #1-#4 Cubmaster or den leader: Today let us first say the Scout Oath let s make the Cub Scout sign and say it together: On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. Here are some ways that we can help other people at all times: Cub Scout #1: Helping other people might be picking up a toy or a bottle that a boy dropped. Cub Scout #2: Helping other people might be playing with a younger brother or sister while mom is busy. Cub Scout #3: Helping other people might be telling a friend he did a great job when he did his best. Cub Scout #4: Helping other people may be simple everyday things, even a smile, or difficult things like fighting for our country. Cubmaster or den leader: The people throughout history that have kept our country free helped other people - you and me. As we pledge our allegiance to the flag, let us be glad that others have helped other people.

Cub Scout #4: Helping other people may be simple everyday things, even a smile, or difficult things like fighting for our country.

5 Materials: Gloves (can even be latex gloves) Garbage bags Objective: Better than You Found It To work as a den and a pack to clean up an area. This area can be within the students meeting place, outside of the meeting place and/or in the area around the meeting place. Have a discussion about what it means to help other people. Helping no matter what kind of help it is is a Good Turn. Cub Scouts should do a Good Turn every day. Cub Scouts, with gloves and the appropriate garbage bags, will walk through their meeting place and outside and wherever the den leader/cubmaster feels it is appropriate for them to be and will pick up trash, make things orderly and leave their meeting place (inside and outside) better than they found it. Den leaders and Cubmasters will need to determine the best way to do this for their meeting location. Once the Cub Scouts are done cleaning up, etc, have them discard of their gloves and then carry out a reflection time and ask the Cub Scouts how they felt when they knew they were helping by cleaning up.

6 Blob Tag Materials: None Objective: The Cub Scout who is the last person to be tagged by a blob wins the game. One Cub Scouts starts as it and the game starts as in regular tag. Once someone is tagged, the tagged Cub Scout must join hands with the first and become the blob and together they try to tag other Cub Scouts. As Cub Scouts are tagged by the hands at either end, the blob grows. When the blob has at least 6 Cub Scouts, it can break into two 3-Cub Scout blobs. The blob must stay together except when breaking into smaller blobs. The last Cub Scout not tagged wins the game and begins the next round.

Good Turn Closing Materials: None Cubmaster or Den leader: Most of us are happiest when we are doing something for others. Think, for a moment of a time when you were helpful to someone.

Chances are it made you feel pretty good. Of course, we feel best when we do something for others without being found out. When we help others regularly, it soon becomes a habit and gets to be a natural thing. Once a Cub Scout establishes this habit, he learns the real meaning of a good turn.
