Beyond the practice-oriented discussions on the most important pathology groups (vertebral fractures, spinal stenosis, degenerative deformity and tumors), the symposium will be also focused on further specialties of surgical treatment of elderly people as the perioperative care, psychosocial issues and life quality, etc. The participants will have the opportunity to listen to evidence based lectures, to discuss their own cases, to raise questions and to generate debates. The best available scientific evidence, technical tips and tricks, advantages and disadvantages of different treatment methods will be delivered to the participants by the expert faculty. 3 Description of the Event This symposium will address specific and controversial issues of ageing spine surgery like deformity correction, MIS techniques or tumor resections. New perspectives on ageing spine surgery offer new learning insights for even an experienced surgeon. Risk factors and complications are highlighted topics of the symposium. This symposium will offer you a challenging learning experience with interactive sessions facilitated by faculty in their field of expertise, in a modular format. The event will comprise of evidence-based lectures, case presentations, and debates and will provide ample time for discussion between faculty and participants. Target Participants This course is targeted at spine surgeons (orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons and other specialists) with 3 to 10 years of experience in spine surgery, who are aiming to further improve their performance in the management of elderly degenerative, trauma and tumor cases. Event Objectives After the event, participants will be able to: Explain the controversies in the management of compression fractures. Recognize the limitations of the degenerative spinal surgery in elderly. Understand the difficulties around the different treatments of spinal metastasis. Identify and determine how to approach complex cases in elderly. Apply evidence based decision making algorithms for different ageing spine conditions. Correctly indicate and perform surgery including risk assessment and avoidance of complications.
