4 General Health Approximately 93% of girls and 82% of boys are not overweight (i.e., less than the 85 th percentile) Approximately 5% of boys are considered obese (i.e., greater than or equal to the 95 th percentile) Based on self-reported height and weight, a Body Mass Index (BMI) number was calculated for 8 th, 9 th and 11 th graders CDC BMI-for-age charts were used to determine weight status Mental Health Emotional Well-Being 18% of 9 th grade girls self-report thinking about ending their life or committing suicide in previous12 months 15-20% of 9 th grade girls report self-injury 1 or more times in previous12 months 4

Substance Use Tobacco use is low 92-99% of 8 th, 9 th and 11 th grade students selfreport no smoking of cigarettes in previous 30 days Similar self-reports regarding use of chewing tobacco and/or cigars 5
