2 The container for dirty, re-useable instruments must be used for this purpose only Store sterilized instruments in a manner that protects them from contamination Equipment / Disinfection/Sterilization Procedures 5 Proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of reusable equipment and instruments Ultrasonic cleaner to be operated with lid on, solution changed daily or more often if visibly dirty, unit is cleaned and disinfected daily Use thick, heavy duty, non-disposable gloves when washing contaminated instruments/equipment Disassemble and clean dirty instruments in the cleaning area Provide a sink with hot and cold running water, conveniently located near the work area, for washing all instruments/equipment Instruments/equipment must be cleaned using water and a detergent with a brush or ultrasonic cleaning device Clean, disinfect and dry-store nylon cleaning brushes/pads after each use Clean and disinfect instruments/equipment according to instrument classification Semi-critical class instrument/equipment must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with high level disinfectant Non-critical class instrument/equipment must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with intermediate level disinfectant Critical class instrument/equipment must be thoroughly cleaned and sterilized Equipment / Tattoo Equipment/Procedures 6 Tattoo/ invasive equipment provided, handled and maintained in a sanitary condition Use impervious, single-use, disposable covers to protect the areas of tattooing instruments that cannot be sterilized Ensure all spray/ink bottles are covered with single-use plastic bags so that only nozzles are exposed Cover, with cling film, any surfaces that may need to be touched (e.g. light switch) and change cling film between clients Use disposable cups for rinse water Dispose of rinse water/cup after each client Remove and dispose of elastic bands on clamps/machine heads before cleaning and sterilizing Disinfect between each client, the areas of tattooing instruments that cannot be sterilized Equipment / Autoclave 7 Proper use and testing of autoclave Review written back-up plans in the event of positive (failed) spore test annually Provide a commercially approved autoclave/dry heat sterilizer Pack every autoclave load with temperature sensitive tape Perform bi-weekly challenge with a commercial preparation of heat resistant spores (Bacillus Stearothermophilus) Spore strips must be sent to a laboratory after exposure to confirm the bacteria are destroyed Maintain a log including temperature, pressure, cycle length, and test results for each load Equipment / Ear Piercing Procedures 8 Proper ear piercing procedures are followed Use sterile, pre-packaged studs on an integrated platform in the piercing gun Sell double-packaged studs in pairs, even if only a single ear is pierced Do not use piercing guns on any part of the body other than the lobes of the ear Do not handle sterile studs with bare hands Load all piecing guns without touching the stud or stud holding device Disinfect forceps or other instruments prior to using them for loading the studs Discard disposable cartridges after use on each client if they are used to hold the studs Fully disassemble, clean and disinfect the piercing gun after use on each client Store the piercing gun in a dry, clean case between uses N/S = No Option Selected, YES = In, = Not in, CDI = Corrected During Inspection, N/O = Not Observed Page 2 of 5
