1 Internships Countries About Adeso is a humanitarian and development organization that is changing the way people think about and deliver aid in Africa. Adeso (African Development Solutions) Africare Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo DR, Cote d'ivoire, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe We are an NGO in Africa working in a very different way than most. We believe that development must come from within, not outside African communities. That it is Africans themselves who must determine Africa s future, and that while international aid has provided much needed support, it often falls short of enabling lasting change at grassroots level. We want to change this, and our strong bonds with African communities mean we are uniquely placed to do so. Africare s programs focus on four principal, interrelated areas: Food Security, Water, Health and Emergency Response. The projects formed under these areas work hand in hand with sub initiatives like Women s Empowerment and improved Water and Sanitation in order to achieve Africare s mission of improving the quality of life for the people of Africa. Our Key Areas: Agriculture & Food Security Health, HIV/AIDS Water & Sanitation & Hygiene Africare also works in the areas of: Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Women s Empowerment Civil Society Development & Governance Micro Enterprise Environment Bright Kids Uganda Uganda To rescue vulnerable and economically disadvantaged children from their dire circumstances in which they are currently living, by providing housing, their basic necessities and education. Our hope is these children will have a chance to fully realize their God given potential and empower them, to become leaders and productive members of their community.
2 Challenging Heights Ghana To ensure a secured, protected and dignified future and life for children and youth by promoting their rights, education, and health. We deliver social justice interventions to children, women, and underserved communities in the coastal and farming communities of Ghana. This includes rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration of children who have been trafficked in the fishing industry, as well as creating community awareness on these issues in order to prevent trafficking and re trafficking of children. Challenging Heights also contributes to policy and awareness creation and the public discourse on issues affecting Ghanaian children. Additionally, the organization runs a school for more than 700 children who are survivors of child trafficking or who are at risk of child trafficking. 5 Thika School for the Blind Kenya Thika is a small town an hour s drive from downtown Nairobi. The town itself is quite small and is perhaps best known for being the primary pineapple growing region in Kenya. The growing town has over 13 schools, but most notable are the primary and secondary school for the blind, reportedly Kenya s first school for the visually impaired. The salvation army founded the Thika school for the blind many years ago. It ministers to children who range from partially sight impaired to entirely blind. The children come to stay at the boarding school, but return to family during holiday. The school s motto is Faith and Courage.
