1 Belgrave St. Peter s CE Primary School Queen s 90 th Birthday Celebrations Friday 10 th June

2 In celebration of the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II, the staff and students at Belgrave St Peter s C of E Primary School took part in various activities throughout the week (6 th 10 th of June). The activities included learning dances through the decades (1920 s to present), creating pieces of artwork celebrating the life and times of Queen Elizabeth II, and creating party invites and decorations. Finally, on Friday afternoon all of the staff and students took party in a party on the schools playground. Here are some comments from the staff and students of the school about how much they enjoyed the weeklong celebration: We enjoyed making cucumber sandwiches and making flags to wave (Reception student) This week has been really special because the queen is getting older than any other queen we have had (Year 2 student) I enjoyed eating jelly and ice-cream. Then we bounced on the bouncy castle. The picnic had delicious snacks (Year 2 student) I enjoyed having our picnic and having our pictures taken waving our flags (Year 3 student) I enjoyed acting out a day in the life of the queen. I also enjoyed making the bunting (Year 3 student) We had fun making bunting for the queen s birthday. Afterwards we cut them out. We also had lunch on the playground. (Year 4 student) The best part of Friday was when we had a picnic outside and all the staff served us lunch. (Year 4 student) I liked it when we coloured in a square piece of paper and stuck them all together to make a collage of a stamp. (Year 5 student) I liked the part where we were all outside eating lunch and we got to choose the food we wanted. (Year 5 student) It was an amazing day that the children thoroughly enjoyed. The picnic was delicious. (Mrs Bamkin) Year 4 worked extremely well, learning all about the queen s life. The queen s picnic was full of laughter, excitement and fun. (Miss Patel) Year 6 were newspaper reporters for a morning, researching the queen s official birthday celebrations at Windsor castle. We also made our own postage stamps and the children used their creative skills. (Mrs Badyal) Wow, what a fab time we all had. (Mrs Smart) I really enjoyed the decorations, they were very patriotic. It was a lovely party. We enjoyed making the sandwiches. (Angela and Manta) What an amazing event that the staff and children all enjoyed! (Michelle) It was fantastic to see all of our children, staff and parents come together and enjoy this celebration. (Mr Galvin) Birthdays are a time to come together with close friends and family to celebrate. The way in which our staff and pupils came together to celebrate the Queen s 90 th was a testament to what an amazing family we are. (Mrs Tasker, Head Teacher)

3 Nursery and Reception In the week leading up to the Queen s Birthday celebration, our Reception and Nursery classes had a week full of activities. At the beginning of the week, our children took part in a special dance class that focused on dances through the decades. This represented the dances that had been around since Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne. Reception and Nursery learned dances from the 1950 s. Nursery and Reception classes had fun designing and making birthday cards for the Queen, crowns, bunting, flags to wave and cucumber sandwiches. As a special treat the queen visited to invite all of the children to a special birthday party. We enjoyed making cucumber sandwiches. (Nursery) We made flags to wave and had lunch in the Playground. Afterwards we got to stay on the big playground. (Reception)

4 Year 1 On Monday morning our Year 1 children had their dance leasson where they learned dances from the 1950 s During the rest of the week they had activities that included drawing pictures of the Queen and writing about the Queen s birthday party.

5 Year 2 For their dance class Year 2 learned dances from the 1980 s which they enjoyed very much. During the week year 2 worked on creating some pieces of work regarding the Queen s birthday. They wrote about what they would do if they were King or Queen for a day. The children also designed invitation from the Queen to themselves inviting them to the birthday party on Friday. Finally the children drew pictures of their dream palace and where they would live if they were King or Queen.

6 Year 3 Year 3 started the week by learning dances from the present day and also learned how to street dance. Year 3 got into character and acted out a day in the life of the queen. Following on from their activity of a day in the life of the Queen, Year 3 planned some diary entries that they imagined would be in the Queen s diary.

7 Year 4 For their dance lesson Year 4 learned dances from the 1920 s. Year 4 also had lots of fun making Bunting for the Queen s birthday that could be used for the party on Friday. On Friday morning we made bunting and Miss Patel fed red string through them all (Class 4)

8 Year 5 Year 5 learned dances from the 1990 s for their dance lesson on Monday afternoon. During the week they made a collage of a stamp. The children all coloured in pieces of paper and then stuck them together to form a stamp. During ther week Year 5 planned and created a fact sheet about the Queen.

9 Year 6 On Monday afternoon Year 6 learned dances fro the 1950 s during their dance lesson. For their activities during the week Year 6 have created some newspaper articles about the Queen and her upcoming birthday. The children in Year 6 also designed stamps commemorating the Queen s 90 th birthday.

10 The Queen s Birthday Party On Friday the 10 th of June all of the children and staff got together on the school playground to throw a party in celebration of the Queen s 90 th birthday. The children enjoyed sandwiches, cakes, crown shaped shortbread, jelly and ice-cream.

11 After the children had eaten their lunch they were given some play time and a bouncy castle was put up for the children to play on. A Whole-School Showcase of Our Celebrations Finally, in the afternoon there was an assembly for the parents to attend. The classes all took turns to show the parents what they had been working on over the week.

12 Special Mentions The whole week was a huge success and the Friday itself a wonderful way to come together and share in this very special, historical event that staff, parents and pupils will remember for many years to come. Thanks have to go out to all of the staff who supported this event, but special mentions must go to: Mrs Kimberlin, Mrs Garratt, Mrs Forbes, Angela & Manta in the kitchen, without whose planning and support, this event would have been unable to take place.
