6 Entry Requirements Prerequisites Entry to some degree courses requires certain pre-requisites DO CHECK WITH THE INDIVIDUAL UNIVERSITY. Eg. University of Melbourne Bachelor of Science (English, Mathematics and one of Bio, Chem or Physics) Preferred IB subjects & levels or assumed knowledge. While these aren t always essential, you ll stand a greater chance of obtaining a place if you can provide evidence of prior learning in these areas. Eg.Flinders University Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems (Maths, Physics) Medicine/ Dentistry - ISAT (International Students No set dates, register between March and January) - UMAT (Domestic Students Only 1 test date, Eg. 29 July for Registration closes early June. https://umat.acer.edu.au/

7 Applying as a Domestic Every domestic student must go through the Australian university application system called TAC Tertiary Admissions Centre South Australia & Northern Territory SATAC Victoria VTAC New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory UAC Queensland QTAC Western Australia WATAC Student Tasmania Direct Application to the university

8 One online application for each TAC One online application for each TAC 8-9 choices across and/or universities Rank your choices in order (course of preference) Eg. VTAC 1. 9 IB vs ATAR & ID - ATAR = Australian Tertiary Admission Rank - the system used to try to put international examinations on an even weighting. It is based on rank, not performance. Eg. ATAR = 80 (top 20% for the particular year) - The ATAR is what will get you into universities! - For ID students, please contact the university directly for admission requirements and individual assessment.

15 Timeline Domestic Students OCTOBER Last chance to make changes to your preferences - additional charges may apply Submit outstanding documentation JANUARY Most offers are made late January Receive one offer ONLY Decide whether to accept your current offer or wait for second round Taking a risk! FEBRUARY Second round of offers made Orientation programmes and classes commence by end of February

16 Applying as an International Student You do not need to go through the TAC (Tertiary Admissions Centre) Your IB points will not be converted to ATAR Before you apply, check the minimum IB requirement

18 Applying as an International Student Two timings to apply- 1. Apply directly to each university by late December with your predicted grades to start in August. (Eg. Monash and University of Melbourne). Have up to 2 or 3 subject choices on one application to each university. Receive a conditional offer, verify results in July and start in August.

19 Applying as an International Student 2. Apply with your final results to start in the following year February. Apply directly to each university anytime after results, no particular application deadline, but earlier the better Have up to 2 or 3 degrees on one application to each university. Apply for accommodation (2 references) Generally will receive offers within 3 weeks Your accommodation will be confirmed after you received an offer.

20 Alternative pathway to university study (1) Technical & Further Education (TAFE) Australian Government funded vocational and technical training. TAFE institutes provide direct pathways to university study. They are widely recognised for their role in preparing people for work by providing training, skills and knowledge that lead to employment.

21 Alternative pathway to university study (2) Foundation courses prepare students for university Entry. Most Australian universities offer foundation courses. General entry requirements Application timeline Duration and Completion of our Y11-Y13 Throughout the year check with institution Each university has different foundation programmes and fees Eg. University of Queensland Transition Program 4 months Standard Program 9 months Standard Plus 12 months

22 Alternative pathway to university study (2) You can choose your preferred stream (Eg. Commerce, Sciences etc) Guaranteed place in the relevant bachelor degree at the university if you fulfill their requirement.
