3 SLSWA has been saving lives and training the Western Australian community to save lives for over 100 years. As part of Surf Life Saving Australia the organisation is the largest rescue service provider in Australia. Surf Life Saving Western Australia (SLSWA) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO # 51104) committed to training nationally accredited unit of competence from the 2014 Health Training Package. SLSWA has delivered First Aid Training since 2005 to both corporate clients and the general public. Resources for the courses have been developed by Surf Life Saving Western Australia to the required specifications of the training package. SLSWA has perfected the ability to impart this knowledge to individuals, communities and businesses throughout Western Australia. The organisation prides itself on delivering courses underpinned by the SLSWA values: We are trusted by our members, partners and the community. We strive for excellence in everything we do on the beach and beyond. We are courageous in every action we take and decision we make. We are valued for the work we do, saving lives and building great communities We are all one family and proud of the work we do. SLSWA First Aid Training Division organises first aid courses for the general public and organisations. Our core business delivers the following courses to Western Australians: Provide Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (Basic First Aid) Provide First Aid (Senior First Aid) Apply Advanced Resuscitation techniques (Advanced Resuscitation) Basic Emergency Care Home Lifesavers Recreational Skippers Ticket Community Surf Rescue Currently SLSWA has a team of 14 qualified First Aid trainers, who deliver first aid training courses throughout WA. SLSWA trainers come from a variety of different backgrounds, bringing their own knowledge to the courses. These include paramedics, nurses, fire-fighters, emergency response personnel, police officers and our own life savers. SLSWA Trainers are carefully selected and trained to the high standards expected of all Surf Life Saving employees and uphold the SLSWA values. All Trainers are required to have the following certification. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Hold the qualification that is being trained or higher. Most trainers currently hold the Advance First Aid HLTAID006 certificate. A Police Clearance and Working with Children is also a pre requisite.
4 All First Aid Training is conducted in accordance with the values held by the SLSWA community. All funds generated by SLSWA Training and Education are reinvested into our 20,200 volunteer members and 30 WA Surf Life Saving Clubs who continue to provide a safer aquatic environment for all Western Australians. In 2013 / 2014 SLSWA lifeguards performed 38,337 actions to prevent injuries or incidents. SLSWA specialises in on-site delivery. We will come to your venue at a time and date that is most convenient for your members. SLSWA trainers bring all resources and equipment required for training with them to site. All courses can be tailored to suit the requirements of our customers; ensuring participants receive maximum benefit from the training. SLSWA accredited courses have flexible delivery options. This includes self-paced options for training, where participants complete the theory component of the course in advance, reducing the training time required and providing employers with reduced down time and productivity savings. SLSWA offer flexibility in the times and dates of training. We can split courses over several sessions; conduct sessions on the weekends and after hours. SLSWA are committed to working with organisations to assist in making training as accessible and convenient as possible. SLSWA core first aid courses are also offered to individuals through our public course program. Courses are staged at 10 locations throughout the Metropolitan region throughout the year. All course dates, times and locations are listed on the SLSWA website a minimum of 6 months in advance. At SLSWA we pride ourselves on delivering First Aid courses with energy, enthusiasm and flexibility.
5 The Cyclists First Aid course is a 2 two course tailored to provide practical and effective first aid specific to cycling injuries. It is our plan to develop cyclists first aid knowledge and skills enabling them to effectively assess an emergency scene and administer basic first aid specific to cycling injuries. Content Casualty assessment Basic emergency management assessment o Patient o Location Apply DRSABCD Prioritise treatment Treatment of cycling injuries o Head injuries o Fractures o Wounds o Breathing o Identification and treatment of Internal o Sprains and strains o Spinal o Sunburn o Shock Anatomy o Pressure points This course will teach cyclists to follow a First aid method and be able to manage should they be first on the scene. Platinum 10 The evidence is clear, the earlier an injury is treated the faster the recovery time. The focus is on ensuring that the correct assessments are made and the correct first aid administered until professional help arrives on the scene. METHOD OF DELIVERY Full Course: 2 hours of face to face training On successful completion of the training, participants will receive a Surf Life Saving WA certificate of participation.
