On successful completion of a Pearson BTEC International Level 2 qualification, learners can progress to continued study in the same or related vocational area and/or within employment. Pearson BTEC leading to the training and qualification of Engineering Technicians, the training programme can enable the trainees to acquire the practical skills and technical qualifications necessary to provide the technician workforce required by current working practices. During the programme learners will be required to undertake off-the-job training, on-the-job training and technical studies periods. Training will be mainly hands-on, involving scenario based exercises and simulations selected to be directly relevant to the field. Trainees would be asked to observe and perform routine checks that are specific for their role.

4 Course Details The engineering sector continues to suffer from a skills gap and needs to keep up with rapidly developing technologies. The BTEC Diploma in Engineering has been designed to give new entrants to the engineering sector the underpinning knowledge and specific skills needed to meet the needs of modern mechanical engineering industries at both local and international levels. Many of the units have strong links to the knowledge and evidence requirements of the National Occupational Standards and will provide learners with opportunities for progression within and into employment. The qualifications have also been designed so that learners can progress into BTEC Level 3 and Levels 4 and 5 Higher Education, and undergraduate engineering degree qualifications. The BTEC Diploma in Engineering has been designed with flexible qualification structures and provide a wide range of units so that learners can focus on their chosen career or area of interest. 5 What are the assessment methods? All units in the Pearson BTEC International Level 2 qualifications are assessed through internal assessment, which means that the centre can deliver the programme in a way that suits its learners and relates to local need. The way in which the centre delivers the programme must also ensure that assessment is fair and that standards are consistent over time. To achieve this, it is important that centres: Plan the assessment of units to fit with delivery, allowing for the linkages between units Write suitable assessments (for example assignments, projects or case studies) or select assessments from available resources, adapting them as necessary Plan the assessment for each unit in terms of when it will be authorized by the internal verifier, when it will be used and assessed, how long it will take, and how you will determine that learners are ready to begin an assessment Ensure each assessment is fit for purpose, valid, will deliver reliable assessment outcomes across assessors, and is authorized before use Provide all the preparation, feedback and support that learners need to undertake an assessment before they begin producing their evidence Make careful and consistent assessment decisions based only on the defined assessment criteria and unit requirements Validate and record assessment decisions carefully and completely Work closely with Pearson to ensure that the implementation, delivery and assessment is consistent with BTEC quality standards. What are the progression options? On successful completion, you will be awarded a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Engineering, which carries with it a range of points depending on level of success. You will gain access to a wide range of possible careers and higher education opportunities. For successful students, the Level 2 Diploma will provide progression onto the BTEC Level 3 Diplomas in Engineering which upon completion will enable graduates to progress onto a HNC in Engineering or Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering with further progression onto a MEng with various Universities in the United Kingdom and all around the world. Former engineering students have become design technicians, architectural technicians and mechanical engineers. 5

6 What are the Fees? Our fees are into the following two categories: a) Institutional (Centre) Fees: These fees cover the costs of student s registration and teaching and learning services such as tuition fees. b) Fees that are payable to our Industry Partners for use of their laboratories and Pearson BTEC for assessments etc. Please contact any of our Centres for more information about fees. Funding Opportunities? There are many funding options for the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Engineering. Students aged 23 years and above who are registered under mature entry or those with 23 points in six (6) subjects at grade 10 can apply for study loan with Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund Most of our students have been funded by their employer organisations including Government Ministries while others finance their studies on their own. Further information and guidance is available in our prospectus. Withdrawal/Cancellation Any cancellations/withdraw or refunds are executed in accordance with the institutional policies. 7 Modules The Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Diploma in Engineering qualification totals 600 Notional Learning Hours (NLH). Learners must achieve three mandatory units and optional units that provide for a combined total value of 60 to achieve the qualification. This qualification is not designed to allow units to be imported from other Pearson qualifications. 8 How to apply Application, Admission & Registration Process A) Guidance and Information Get as much guidance and information as possible regarding course programs, methods of study, nature of courses, exemptions, registration processes with examinations bodies, accreditations, fees and career path guidance from our CPS team to enable you make a sustainable course decision; B) Completion of Study Enrolment Form Download and complete the enrolment agreement form and submit proof of payment for the stipulated registration fees together with your completed enrolment agreement to your centre of choice. To be considered for approval, the completed enrolment agreement form must be accompanied by: 1) Two (2) Pass Port Photos 2) Certified Copies of Qualifications 3) Payment of Registration Fees 4) Sponsorship letter if applicant is being sponsored by any organization 5) Letter of work experience from employer (s) where available C) Applicant must ensure that: 1) The enrolment agreement form is properly and fully completed and that each page is initialed and signed; 2) He/she provides all the required documentations such as certified copies of qualifications, Identity Card/Pass port photos, Supporting letters from employers, 3) He/she deposits registration fees into the respective Centre s Bank Account provided on the enrolment agreement form and submits original copy of the deposit as proof before being issued with an official receipt 4) He/she is issued with an official Centre Receipt, stamped with Official Company Stamp and Signed by the Centre Manager for every payment made to the Centre. Please note that CTPD does not receive cash payments, 5) He/she obtains a written acknowledge letter confirming that his/her completed enrolment agreement form has been received 6) He/she obtains status of his/her application for studies within 30 working days. If admitted, an Admission letter issued by the Admission section in the Quality Assurance and Compliance Office must also be obtained through the respective Centre together with the Time Table, Syllabuses, and any other information. 9 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The Centre s entry requirements are: 1) Vocational Education & Training Level 2 Qualifications 1. Standard Requirements for Level 2 Vocational Qualifications 1. At least 16 and above years of age 2. Minimum of 23 points in six (6) subjects at Grade 10 level OR Level 1 Vocational Qualification 2. Mature Entry for Level 2 Vocational Qualifications 1. At least 23 and above years of age with grade 10 or 9 level of education 2. Pass the Aptitude Assessment 3. Must be prepared to undertake a three (3) months intensive Foundation or Bridging Course which does not form part of the actual qualification being registered for 3. Grade 12 (NSSC) Entry Requirements 1. Applicants with 25 or higher points in five (5) subjects at Grade 12 or equivalent with an F in English will be given preference 2) Level 3 Vocational Qualifications a) Standard Requirements for Level 2 Vocational Qualifications 1. Level 2 Vocational Qualification OR a minimum of 10 points in any five (5) subjects at Grade 12 Level including English (first or second language) and Mathematics b) Mature Entry for Level 2 Vocational Qualifications 1. At least 23 and above years of age 2. Pass the Aptitude Assessment. 3. You must have a minimum of 1 year s work experience 4. The result of the Assessment and work experience will be used to determine the level of study in which to place you into. c) Grade 12 (NSSC) Entry Requirements 1. Applicants with 25 or higher points in five (5) subjects at Grade 12 or equivalent with an F in English will be given preference 3) Levels 4, 5 and 6 Qualifications a) Standard Requirements for Levels 4, 5 and 6 Qualifications 1) Applicants must have a Level 3 or 2 Qualification in the related field; OR 2) Applicants with higher passes will be given preference 9
