1 TEAMeffort VBS I am a Child of God Thank you for volunteering to spend some time working at VBS. The children you will be working with come from a variety of different backgrounds and family situations. Our goal with VBS is to show the children they are a Child of God by having fun and simply spending time with them. VBS also offers your youth group an opportunity for meaningful and fun ministry. Using your Bible, activities, your time and gifts, you can make a huge difference in the lives of the children. Many will hear and be shown the Love of Jesus for the first time; some may come to know Jesus as their personal Savior. Many will learn to love God more and will grow in their desire to obey and serve Him. Many of the children are craving for attention and someone to show they care. The time spent one-on-one with the children is far more important than the activities planned. This week will challenge both the youth and the children to joyfully choose to love, obey, and serve God. We have prepared a lesson plan for each day that includes 2 stories (ready for you to read) and 2 art projects (TEAMeffort staff member will have all supplies ready). You will have a list of songs and games that can be used at any time. There will also be a variety of activities provided for your youth to facilitate for the children. On Sunday night you will meet with the staff member in charge of VBS and they will help you understand the schedule and location of VBS. The following is a list of the theme and stories for the week. You will be given all the supplies necessary, however you and your group are always welcome to: bring any additional materials for stories or crafts plan a way to act out the story bring musical instruments to play along with songs teach your favorite songs to the children The possibilities are endless and up to your youth group s imagination! Week 1 June 5-11 God Loves Me John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Day 1 Jesus loves the Children (Matthew 19:13-15) Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) Day 2 God created the world (Genesis 1:1-2:25) God created Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:1-24) Day 3 Jesus Birth (Luke 2) Day 4 Jesus died on the cross (Luke 22:39-23:46) Jesus is Alive (John 19:38-20:29) The goal this week is for the children to learn that God loves each one of them and all of the stories explain the depth of this love. Jesus loves everyone, even if they don t believe in Him. Nothing you do can make His love stop. Hopefully by the end of the week they will: Understand just how much God loves each of us individually Understand that God created the world and everything in it Understand that God sent His son to Earth Understand that God allowed His Son to die on the cross to save our sins because of His love for us

2 Week 2 June God Knows Me Psalm 139:1 You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. Day 1 Woman at the well (John 4:4-26) Abraham and Sarah (Genesis 12-21) Day 2 Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10) Esther saves her people (Esther 2-7:7) Day 3 Good Shepherd (Luke 15:3-7) God knows me (Psalm 139) Day 4 God made me special (Genesis 1:26) The goal this week is for the children to learn that God knows each one of them by name and loves them unconditionally. The verse this week is Psalm 139: 1 however; verses 1-16 can be used to teach the child just how involved Jesus is in their lives. The daily lessons are all stories that show just how much God knows and loves each one of His creations. Hopefully by the end of the week they will: Understand that God created us uniquely and after His own image Understand that God created us for a purpose Understand that God knows everything about us Understand Jesus wants us to believe we are perfect just the way we are Week 3 June God Hears Me Micah 7:7 But as for me, I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. Day 1 Daniel (Daniel 6) Elijah (1Kings 17:1-16) Day Shadrach (Daniel 3) Baby Moses (Exodus 1-2:10) Day 3 Hannah s Prayer (1 Samuel 1-2:11) Jesus heals the Official s son (John 4:46-53) Day 4 Ruth and Naomi (Ruth 1:1-22) Jericho (Joshua 6:1-2) The goal this week is for the children to learn that God can hear all of their prayers. He listens to them and sends protection and help. The daily lessons are all stories which tell the children about people in the Bible that prayed for something and how God responded to those prayers. Hopefully by the end of the week they will: Understand that we can come to Jesus anytime Understand that God does hear our prayers and wants us to talk to Him

3 Week 4 June 26- July 2 God Helps Me Psalm 70:4-5 But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, The LORD is great! But as for me, I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; LORD, do not delay. Day1 Crossing the Red Sea (Exodus 13:15) Nehemiah (Nehemiah 2:11-4:23) Day 2 Jesus calms the storm (Matthew 8:23-27) Jesus heals the blind man (John 9:1-35) Day 3 Noah (Genesis 6:1-22) Day 4 Paul and Silas in jail (Acts 16:16-40) Joseph and his brothers (Genesis 41-45) The goal this week is for the children to know that Jesus will always help them. The daily lessons are all stories that show how people were afraid but trusted that God would help them. Hopefully by the end of the week they will: Understand that God is always with us even when bad things are happening Understand that God cares for us and wants what is best for us Understand that God will help us Understand that Jesus is our friend and cares about every part of our lives Week 5 July 3-9 God is with Me Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. Day 1 God sends the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-13) Paul sailed for Rome (Acts 27) Day 2 Wise and Foolish Builders (Matthew 7:24-27) Gideon (Judges 6, 7) Day 3 Peter s mother-in-law (Matthew 8:14-15) God s Promise (Genesis 8:1-9:17) Day 4 Moses says Let my people go (Exodus 3:1-12:32) God sends manna to eat (Exodus 16:1-36) The goal this week is to help the children understand that no matter where they are or what they have done God is always with them. Jesus wants to help you and wants to be your friend. Hopefully by the end of the week they will: Understand that God loves us more than any other person in our lives. Understand that God is always near us Understand God is our friend

4 Week 6 July God Strengthens Me 2 Samuel 22:33 It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. Day 1 Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-26) The Vine and Branches (John 15:1-8) Day 2 Peter walks on the Water (Matthew 14:22-33) Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) Day 3 David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17) David and Jonathan (1 Samuel 16:15-19:7) Day 4 Walls fall down (Joshua 6:1-20) Woman gives all she has (Luke 21:1-4) The goal this week is to help the children understand our strength comes from God. We know that because of Adam and Eve. We live in a world full of sin and even Christians have difficult situations. However, what helps is our faith in God and He has told us He will help us in times of trouble. Hopefully by the end of the week they will: Understand that we must have faith to believe in Jesus Understand the stories in the Bible really happened and the Bible is our way to learn more about Jesus Understand that we can come to Jesus anytime Week 7 July God Teaches Me Psalm 25:5 Guide me in your truth, teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Day 1 Ten Commandments (Exodus 19:1-24:18) Doing what s right (Luke 6:31) Day 2 Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) Jesus washing disciple s feet (John 13:1-17) Day 3 Jesus talks to Nicodemus (John 3:1-2) Jesus baptism (Matthew 3:1-17) Day 4 Jesus is tempted (Matthew4:1-11) Parable of the unmerciful servant (Matthew 18:21-35) The goal this week is for the children to learn more about the Bible and why it is important. In it God has provided us with stories that teach us how to live. The people in the Bible are just like us and have both good and bad things happen to them. The daily lessons are all stories that teach how Gods wants us to live. Hopefully by the end of the week they will: Understand that Jesus wants everyone to know Him and believe he is the Son of God Understand the depth of God s love for each of us individually Understand it is God s words in the Bible Understand the Bible teaches us about Jesus and how to follow Him

5 Week 8 July God Sends Me Matthew 4:19 Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for people. Day 1 Naaman (2 Kings 5) Rahab (Joshua 2:1-22) Day 2 Jonah (Jonah 1:1-2:10) Feeding the 5000 (John 6:1-15) Day 3 Jesus talks to Saul (Acts9:1-25) Samuel (1 Samuel 3) Day 4 God chooses His followers (Matthew4:18-22) The goal this week is to put everything they have learned all summer together to understand that they can now go out and tell others about Jesus. They can do this with their words but also by their actions. Hopefully, this summer has taught them to: Understand that God created us after His own image and God is perfect Understand the depth of God s love for each of us individually. Begin to understand the meaning of Jesus dying on the cross for us Understand that God s grace covers all sin Understand that Jesus wants everyone to know Him and believe he is the Son of God. Understand God created us each for a purpose Understand the Bible can help us learn more about Jesus
