1 February 12, 2017 Basic Truth: Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Key Question: Who loves you? Bottom Line: Jesus loves me. Memory Verse: How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Ephesians 3:18, NIV Bible Story Focus: Jesus loves me. Jesus and the Children Luke 18:15-16 Make It Fun (Introductory Activities, 10 minutes) 1. Roll to Fill What You Need: A construction paper heart cut out, pom-poms, and a die During the Activity: Show the children the items and identify them by name. Set the heart flat on the table. Allow the children to guess how many pom-poms they think it will take to fill one heart. Once you arrive at a number, allow the children to take turns rolling one die, identifying the number they ve rolled, and then counting out that number of pom-poms to place inside the heart until it is full. During the Activity: Can someone tell me what this is? (Hold up the heart and pause for responses.) Yep! What about this? (Hold up the die and pause for responses.) Yep! And finally, what about these? (Hold up the pom-poms and pause for responses.) Yes! Let s put our heart on the table. How many pom-poms do you think it will take to fill this heart shape? (Pause for responses.) Those are some great guesses! Let s play a game to see if you re right. We ll take turns with our friends rolling the die and then counting out that many pom-poms to put in our cookie cutter. Are you ready? After the Activity: Wow! Can you believe it took [number] pom-poms to fill up our heart shape? That was really good counting, friends! When you see a heart, what does it make you think of? (Pause.) Love! That s right. Today we re going to hear about how much JESUS loves each one of us because we are all His children. His heart is full of love for us! Question of the Day: What is your favorite animal and why? 2. 2 Make It Stick (Application Activities, 15 minutes) 1. Mirror What You Need: Jesus Loves Me Labels, cardstock, mirror, mirror decorations and glue sticks Before the Activity: Hand out cardstock and a mirror piece to each child. Put decorations in the middle of the table. During the Activity: Help each child to create their mirror. Then ask the children hold up their mirror and say, [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me, as they look at themselves. During the Activity: We re going to create a mirror that you can take home with you today! Every time you hold up your mirror, I want you to say, [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me. First, let s use our glue sticks to run some glue over the center of our cardstock. Then we ll carefully place our circle mirror on the center of your cardstock. And finally, I want you to place a label that says, [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me, on the edge of your paper. After the Activity: Okay, friends, hold up your mirrors so that you can see your reflection. Tell me: Who loves you? [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me. Yes, He does, my friends! Jesus loves you very much. He loves every single thing about you. I want you to take this mirror home this week and pick it up often, looking at your sweet face and remembering [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! Who loves you? [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me. 2. Tissue Paper Valentines What You Need: heart activity page, tissue paper, glue sticks, foam hearts Before the Activity: Hand out construction paper hearts, and tissue paper. During the Activity: Help the children to glue the tissue paper onto the hearts and finish decorating. Help the children sign their name at the bottom of their valentine. Before the Activity: Our story today was about how much Jesus loves children. We re going to make valentines to remind us that we can accept Jesus love and share it with others! During the Activity: Great job making your tissue paper hearts! I am so thankful that Jesus loves us so much! Who loves you? Jesus loves me! 3 After the Activity: I love your valentines! Who are you going to give your valentines to? Did you remember to sign your name on your valentine? Remember in our story today we learned the Jesus loves children very much and He loves each of you! [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! Who loves you? Jesus loves me! 3. Books of the Bible Review the books of the Bible, Matthew 2 Timothy, with the children. Practice saying them in funny voices (whispering, squeaking like a mouse, etc.), motor activity (jumping, marching, etc.), or with hand motions (clapping, chomping like an alligator, etc.). OK, now we are going to learn the New Testament Books of the Bible. Do you know who we learn about in the New Testament? That s right! We learn about Jesus! Let s practice! Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1&2 Thessalonians, 1&2 Timothy. Can you say it with me? Make It Real (Small Group Application & Prayer, 5 minutes) Make It Real is designed to help preschoolers understand how the Bottom Line applies to them. They ll discuss real-life experiences and share prayer requests. Small Group Time What You Need: Paperclip Memory Verse Card in your Bible at Ephesians 3:18. Provide a journal and a fun-shaped pen for each small group. SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): Raise your hand if you are a little boy or little girl. (Pause and look around at each child.) Do you know that you are some of Jesus favorite friends? It s true! Jesus loves you SO much! Who loves you? CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! SGL: In our Bible story today, mommies and daddies took their children children just like you to see Jesus. Some of Jesus grownup friends told the children to go away. They thought the little children would bother Jesus. Do you remember what Jesus said? (Pause.) Jesus said: Let the little children come to me (Luke 18:16 NIV). He wanted all of the little children children just like you to be His friend, because Jesus loves children. Who does Jesus love? CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! SGL: You got it! And His love for you is SO big! It s so big we can t even measure how big it is! Do you remember what our new memory verse says? (Open Bible to memory verse card.) 4 SGL: (Read verse from the Bible) How wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, Ephesians 3:18. (Lay Bible down.) Let s say that together with the motions. CHILDREN and SGL: How wide (hold arms out wide) and long (hold arms out vertically) and high (jump as high as you can) and deep (pretend to dig with a shovel) is the love (hug yourself) of Christ (point up), Ephesians 3:18. (Open hands like a book.) (Repeat several times.) SGL: You sound awesome! Okay, friends, come sit with me and let s write in our prayer journal. Today I want us to thank Jesus for loving us. I m going to give each of you a red heart sticker. (Hand out the heart stickers.) Now I m going to write everyone s name in our prayer journal. When I write and say your name, I want you to place your red heart sticker beside your name and say: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me! (Open prayer journal and hold your fun pen. Write and say each child s name. Cue them to place their red heart sticker beside their name and say: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me. ) I love this so much! Jesus loves (say each child s name). Now I want to pray and thank God for sending Jesus to love each of us. Would anyone like to pray before I pray? (Give each child who wants to pray the opportunity to do so.) Now I will pray. Prayer SGL: Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to love everyone. Thank You that He loves little children like (name each child). Thank You that He wants us to come to Him, spend time with Him, and be His friend. You are the best, God. We love You. In Jesus name, amen. Get Ready to Dismiss (Think ORANGE) Place take-home creations and this month s Parent Cue in each child s paper bag. Greet parents at the door and tell them that this month preschoolers are learning that [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me Encourage parents to repeat the Bottom Line at home and help their child understand that [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me Encourage parents to use the activities found in Parent CUE to reinforce this month s Bottom Line: [Bottom Line] Jesus loves me AND this month s Memory Verse.
