4 The ASB Student Success Team What do they do? -discuss student academic, social, emotional and physical needs. -collaborate with parents and teachers to implement accommodations and/or interventions to support student success. - oversee student service plans (Seattle Public School services), student support plans (ASB documentation of accommodations and interventions), and student IEP plans (for those who are dually enrolled). -support inclusion strategies and techniques for ALL learners

6 VISION OF THE ASB STUDENT SUCCESS TEAM 1. Expansion of services for students needing support or needing more depth, complexity, application and challenge 2. Implementation of faculty member devoted to oversee continuum of services and act as point person for faculty and parents 3. Professional development and daily scheduling to support co-teaching models in all classrooms to better differentiate instruction

8 ASB Student Support Plans (SSP) Purpose Documentation of student s learning history A communication tool Increase student success Contents of a SSP Brief summary of assessment & diagnosis Specific learning needs AIMS (evaluator, teachers, parent) When is a SSP written? Formal learning evaluation & diagnosis Access to the curriculum is impacted Most effective when Students understand their own learning profile Students advocate for themselves SSP is a working, fluid document Mrs. Rangel (K-4) & Ms. Fairbank (5-8) Accommodations Interventions Modifications Strategies These bypass a student's learning disability or weaknesses. They are meant to level the playing field. These are targeted instruction for strengthening or remediating academic or social skills. These change, lower or reduce the learning expectations. They are made when the learning expectations are beyond the student's level of ability. These are skills or techniques that assist in learning. Strategies are used with ALL students, not just those with learning disabilities or significant weaknesses. Best practices, differentiated instruction Small groups, 1:1, reteaching Variety of assessments, reassessment Parent/teacher communication Lots of visuals, graphic organizers, HW on the web

9 Support from Seattle Public Schools (SPS) SPS Support Services IEP (Individual Education Plan) Dually enrolled Specially Designed Instruction An IEP offers your child a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the areas you choose to enroll for services. You (and your child) have rights identified in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Service Plan (SP) Students on Service Plans are not enrolled in the District Not entitled to FAPE or other special education rights identified in IDEA. Option to receive services at ASB Type of services available vary each year Qualification for services Application process Evals current for 3 years
