1 JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Salary spine: Senior Tutor Teacher Main Scale to and including PSP Range T1 21,684 P3 37,008 Hours of work: Responsible to: 1 x Full time and 1 Flexible 0.6 to Full time Pastoral Manager Main purpose of the post: To support students in relation to academic progress and general welfare and thereby enable the college to meet its targets for attendance, retention and achievement. MAIN DUTIES: 1. OPERATIONAL/STRATEGIC PLANNING 1.1 Contribute to the development and regular updating of college policies, including: Pastoral Policy Every Child Matters Policy Safeguarding Policy 2. CURRICULUM PROVISION AND DEVELOPMENT 2.1 Contribute to the planning of the group tutorial programme, including developing suitable resources and explaining appropriate teaching techniques. 2.2 Deliver the tutorial programme as planned, including: Induction and progression Careers programmes One to one interviews The promotion of Every Child Matters themes, Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding in line with College policies. 2.3 Obtain student views of the tutorial programme in line with the continuous improvement ethos of the College. 3. STAFFING 3.1 Work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing good practice and providing cover for absent colleagues when required.

2 4 STUDENTS 4.1 Monitor the progress of all tutees based on the value-added tracking system and target setting. 4.2 Monitor the attendance and punctuality of students in line with college targets and target setting. 4.3 Support students in their career planning including applications for Higher Education and/or employment or training. 4.4 Deal promptly with concerns and referrals raised by staff in relation to individual student progress and, where necessary, refer on for other appropriate support. 4.5 Ensure that all tutees receive one-to-one interviews as appropriate during their programme of study. 4.6 Arrange and lead meetings/case conferences with students, parents and teachers, as appropriate. DISCIPLINE 4.7 Implement the student behaviour and discipline policy, using review or contract procedures, where appropriate. 4.8 Implement the suspension procedure where appropriate, informing Pastoral Manager/SLT and any staff concerned, of the action taken. LEARNER INVOLVEMENT 4.9 Draw up Action Plans with students to enable them to improve, progress and/or address any areas of concern Deal promptly with complaints raised by students and, where necessary, refer them to the next stage Communicate effectively with students and their parents or carers where relevant. SAFEGUARDING 4.12 Refer students to outside agencies including the Primary Care Trust and specialist counselling services where appropriate Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and/or young persons/vulnerable adults for whom you have responsibility or come into contact with Ensure that Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity procedures are fully adhered to Risk assess and manage students where there is a need.

QUALITY ASSURANCE 5.1 Contribute to the Self Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan within the area of pastoral support. 5.2 Participate fully in quality assurance systems including PMR, lesson observations and audits, responding positively to feedback/ constructive criticism and always seeking to improve provision. 6. MANAGEMENT INFORMATION AND ADMINISTRATION 6.1 Administer efficiently and accurately all changes to MIS data (e.g. exam entries, leavers, course changes). 6.2 Ensure student information held on Pro Monitor is up-to-date, accurate and appropriate. 6.3 Ensure that college policies are implemented through the delivery of tutorial, especially the Code of Conduct Policy. 6.4 Participate in senior tutor training/planning days, taking the lead in areas of particular expertise. 6.5 Identify staff training and development needs and inform the Pastoral Managers of these. 6.7 Work as an active member of the Pastoral support team. 6.8 Share ideas and good practice. 7. COMMUNICATIONS 7.1 Liaise with any relevant internal and external agencies (e.g. counselling services, Careers, ALS, CAMHS, Children s Social Care and Positive Steps) to ensure that the needs of students are met. 7.2 Discuss any issues of concern/importance with the Pastoral Manager, within KIT meetings. 7.3 Pass on information speedily and effectively to teachers and other relevant staff to ensure best outcomes for student and maximise the chances of ensuring student retention and achievement. 8. MARKETING AND LIAISON 8.1 Contribute to pre-enrolment activities such as high school presentations, Open Days and Taster Days. 8.2 Participate in the interviewing of potential students. 8.3 Carry out tasks as allocated during enrolment. 8.4 Sit on the Induction Group to plan and ensure the effective delivery of the college induction programme.

4 8.5 Contribute to the delivery of induction. 9. MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES 9.1 Maintain college records as specified by the Pastoral Managers and SLT. 9.2 Support students in maintaining their Individual Learning Plan (ILP) from college induction until they progress from college. 9.3 Write references as required and keep copies on file. 9.4 Contribute to the updating of display materials and notice boards in group tutorial rooms. 10. TEACHING 10.1 Ensure that group tutorials are well planned and delivered to meet the learning and academic needs of all students Participate in Teaching and Learning Sets and contribute to the college s ongoing commitment to outstanding teaching and learning. 11. OTHER 11.1 Contribute positively to senior tutor meetings Take responsibility for specific areas of the Pastoral system as agreed by negotiation with the Pastoral Managers and Assistant Principal: Student Services Follow and comply with the College s policies and procedures as outlined in the Staff Handbook and take responsibility for the duty of care in respect of the levels of Health and Safety across the College. 12. Undertake other duties, commensurate with the level and scope of the post, as may be reasonably required by the Principal. Level 4 (degree level) qualification in a relevant subject 2. Level 4 teaching qualification (E.g. PGCE) 3. ICT qualification 4.
