2 Staying On? Where you go depends a great deal on the courses you want to study or the courses that suit your personal strengths. You get to choose a subject that you are inspired by. Most of the teachers will remain at the school but you will not know who will teach you until the courses begin. For some students a change can be beneficial it can be a chance to start afresh, especially if you prefer to learn in a more practical or vocational way. You will be in a familiar and supportive environment with many of your friends staying at school with you. Consider all possible options. Discuss with friends, parents, teachers, brothers, sisters, present Sixth Formers, careers advisors.

3 What Is So Different About The Sixth Form? Staff-Student relationships are different. They are more adult and friendly. You take on more responsibility for your own progress. Private Study will allow you to develop your study skills. You will be able to sign out during the day. Group sizes are generally smaller. A Dress Code, but not a uniform. More privileges more demands more success.

4 What does Fulston Manor School offer you? You can choose from a wide range of course subjects and type. We will help you get to University. Support in applying from the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, both of whom we are partnered with. There are many opportunities to take part in extra-curricular activities. Volunteering is encouraged in many forms for example as part of the Sixth Form Council or Social Committee. We also have fantastic links with NCS (National Citizen Service). Study Visits and Field Study Visits feature prominently in the Sixth Form. We will provide careers and progression planning, including direct access to a full-time careers advisor. Sixth Form Pastoral Team to support you throughout your studies. Fantastic social experiences. It is cheaper to stay on and facilities are excellent!!!!!

5 How do we support this transition? VESPA Having a clear Vision of what you want to do in your future. A lot of Effort is needed to complete an A Level programme how much will you put in? It is important to find out own System to help you succeed where do your priorities lie? Practice focusses on what to do with the time that you spend on working if you get that right, you are on the way to success. Being able to cope with the challenges of Sixth Form life with resilience and a positive Attitude is so important. You need to be willing to make mistakes to know that you are challenging yourself and therefore improving.

11 Calendar of Events 2 nd /3 rd November 2016 Prospectus containing introductory information about Sixth Form. This Evening Early November onwards Tuesday 10 th January 2017 End of January 2017 May June 2017 Week beginning 26 th June 2017 Thursday, 24 th August 2017 Progression routes to consider. Speak to teachers and students. Online applications for courses commences. Acknowledgement of applications will be ongoing, as and when we receive them. Year 11 Parents Evening. Subject teachers will give information on how each student is performing in the current courses. Sixth Form staff will be available to answer any questions concerning the Sixth Form. Option Blocks will be produced, once sufficient applications have been received. Students with potential clashes will be identified and discussions held. GCSE Examinations. Sixth Form Induction Week. Students can try out their courses and be a Sixth Former for the week. GCSE results, accompanied by a letter confirming course place or invitation to discuss other options. 24 th 29 th August 2017 There will be interviews for students who need to discuss course choices. Early September 2017 Courses begin.
