3 Introduction We all are well aware that the world in the 21st century is an era of knowledge-based society. Information and technology become a vital role to enhance each country to establish the infrastructure for national information and social communication. The demand on Developing and utilizing space and its application, such as communications broadcasting and earth observation, etc via satellite will unanimously be increased in the member countries of this region. In parallel with the massive demand on space technology, Thailand has worked on development of space technology and application and resulted in various kinds of projects and cooperation. In this connection, there are 3 Projects on satellite and space applications :

4 ipstar-1 Satellite ipstar the world s largest satellite changes everything. Dedicated purely to broadband services, the satellite will Launched 11 Aug 2005 hover over the Asia-Pacific region and provide broadband access to everyone in 14 countries- China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, The Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Australia and New Zealand.

6 SMMS Project Thailand has continued to intensify its constructive cooperation network with many countries, such as, in the Asia-Pacific region, we have jointly signed the MOU on the cooperation in SMMS project (Small Multi-mission Satellite) with China, Iran, Republic of Korea, Mongolia and Pakistan. Moreover, the cooperation among all countries in the region has been increasingly beneficial not only for education but also research cooperation in the future. This project has been devoted to civil remote sensing, space science research and communications experiments. The SMMS will carry a low-resolution Charge Coupled Device (CCD) camera and an experimental telecommunications system. The 470 kg Satellite is set for launch on Chinese booster into a 650 km. sun synchronous polar orbit. In addition Thailand assumed the full responsibility of developing the Ka-band payload for installation in SMMS

7 THEOS Project THEOS is the first Earth observation satellite of Thailand, scheduled to be launched in The satellite has been design to fulfill a number of Earth observation requirements including fast access to area of interest, high revisiting capacity,routine monitoring and updating as well as local and worldwide observations. It also provides information about the services that THEOS offers to Thailand and to the international community. GISTDA is an agency with a mandate to develop space technology and geo-informatics for the benefit of the country an one of the important roles of GISTDA is to develop human resource in satellite remote sensing and geo-informatics, and also develop cooperative international networks to support sustainable development and improvement of natural resources and environment as well as quality of life.

12 Conclusion space technology and applications are playing more and more significant role in social and economic development of the countries all over the world. It has, therefore, become the common demand of Asia-Pacific region to make various kinds of multilateral cooperation in space. Finally, this Forum is a very good opportunity for us to share knowledge and experience and start our new further collaborations.
