1 Part-time Artistic and Business Development Manager Hours: 28 hours a week Salary: 28,000 (pro-rata) Holiday: 28 days (pro-rata) plus bank holidays Commencement: 1 August 2016 Responsible to: Artistic Director and Board Type of Contract: Temporary part-time employed, leading to permanent part-time depending on performance. Freelance and flexible working contract arrangements will be considered. Supported by Esmée Fairbairn, 2Faced Dance Company is looking for an Artistic and Business Development Manager to join the management team and build upon our success over the last 3 years. The Artistic and Business Development Manager is responsible for growing and developing our artistic programmes including the management of The BENCH our female choreographers programme, as well as fundraising via grant, sponsorship, earned income and philanthropic streams that supports our creative programme and develops the organisation. We are looking for a vibrant, strategic thinker and achiever who can influence our development in the longer term whilst leading significant funding applications, sometimes with partners and also supporting colleagues in applying for smaller grants. This post can be undertaken remotely (with regular face to face meetings) or within the company s base at The Courtyard Arts Centre, in Hereford. 2 Background 2Faced Dance is a small organisation with big ambitions. We aim to dually create and build a strong, coherent and sustainable dance infrastructure in Herefordshire alongside producing repertoire that is suitable for touring to a wide range of venues nationally and internationally. We have a small core team who are committed to developing, building and producing dance performance and education work. We believe that our work can have an impact on individuals, communities and organisations and we commission a range of artists and creative professionals to deliver our objectives. The company has gained much national and international acclaim over the last 16 years and this has led the company to become a National Portfolio Organisation for Arts Council England. 2Faced Dance provides a popular programme of touring contemporary dance work. The company s roots lie in its physical and unique language of break and contemporary dance, which has been established over the last fifteen years. The company provides a scaled menu for venues offering work that is suitable for small-large scale venues as well as to traditional and outdoor spaces. Alongside the company s professional performance programme we also deliver an extensive learning and participation programme for both the local community of Herefordshire as well as to schools and youth dance organisations nationally and internationally. A high profile and rapidly developing cultural organisation, 2Faced Dance Company have plans to develop new strands of work for female choreographers, male dancers and digital engagement. The organisation has a turnover of 300,000 and 4 staff. 2Faced Dance enjoys very high levels of customer loyalty and satisfaction and have established youth and professional contemporary dance as an important part of Herefordshire s cultural life. 2Faced Dance Company engages approximately 120,000 people annually as both participants and audience. 2Faced Dance Company produces innovative, accomplished and aspirational artistic performance and participation programmes alongside a captivating community dance programme that truly reflects the landscape in which we are based, allowing us to tell new and original stories, generating distinctive new work, whilst striving to stay relevant to our audiences. The company tours extensively across the UK and internationally aiming to work with cutting edge and culturally diverse designers, venues, organisations and people. We aim to support and mentor local artists whilst advocating on behalf of the wider dance sector and challenging and inspiring different sectors of society. The company seeks to invest in three strands of work over the next three years: Productions, Learning & Participation, Talent development. Developing these areas of growth, building new partnerships and experiencing differing artistic collaborations will all help to push the company forward into a new phase, innovating and producing excellence. 2Faced Dance has previously enjoyed success with applications as both a lead organisation and when working with partners in collaborative awards.

3 Main duties and Responsibilities Overview To plan and implement the artistic activities programme in liaison with the Artistic Director. Overseeing The BENCH initiative including all project management aspects, liaising and reporting to stakeholders, and developing new opportunities in artist development and production To forge relationships with artists and with local, regional and national stakeholders specially venues and festivals To raise funds for, and support the delivery of new artistic projects Be responsible for growing and developing grant, sponsorship and philanthropic income that supports and develops the creative programme of 2Faced Dance. Be a key member of the management team leading fundraising that supports our creative programme and mission. Influencing and informing our strategy and business plans, particularly with respect to artistic activities and fundraising. Preparing and monitoring an annual fundraising activity plan that will fulfil 2Faced s fundraising objectives. Influencing the creative programme so that it fulfills our artistic mission and is more attractive to funders. Producing fundraising resources and tools for staff and Trustees. Policy, partnership development and income generation To forge relationships and establish active partnerships with local, regional and national stakeholders; particularly festivals, venues, agencies, arts partners and local authorities. To raise funds for the delivery of artistic programmes through building partnerships, through trust and foundations funding, ACE Strategic Funds and through any other appropriate means. To contribute with ideas and experience to the strategic management of 2Faced particularly to the strategy for artist development and to the development of new project work. Creative leadership To work directly with the selected artists working on The BENCH to facilitate the development of new and relevant artistic product for small scale touring or one off events To ensure best practice and the highest quality of artistic outcome To maintain an updated knowledge of contemporary dance in the UK and attend performances and showings of work in progress Project management To manage and oversee the delivery of artistic project work; including new small scale and outdoor touring work that is produced as a result of The BENCH To work closely with the Company and Marketing Manager on maximising impact and artistic outcomes To provide effective monitoring and evaluation and ensure both feed into further planning To negotiate contracts for professionals working with 2Faced on artistic programmes and supply necessary contracting information to the Company and Marketing Manager

4 To administrate and coordinate projects where necessary, including training, performance and touring as part of both. Activities will take place in and outside the building. Fundraising Activities Researching and targeting funding agencies and charitable trusts, and then managing application deadlines and reporting dates for existing awards, with colleagues. Writing grant-applications and sponsorship proposals and supporting colleagues in preparing grant applications and proposals. Preparing and ensuring reports are provided to stakeholders as required by funding agreements. Researching and targeting potential sponsors and then supporting and coordinating the direct engagement with them. Representing 2Faced Dance at appropriate events and through presentations and discussions, communicating the charitable aims and opportunities for potential donors to contribute. Being the main contact for, and managing donor related enquires. Developing and delivering an individual membership and giving programme. Other Responsibilities Being a member of the 2Faced Dance team, contributing to the wider development of the cultural programme and management team. Line-managing assistants and/or volunteers as required. Developing your professional practice and skills with the company s support. Please see person specification below.

5 Requirements Essential Desirable Qualifications & Training Degree in relevant discipline or substantial professional experience Membership of relevant professional body Degree in arts or other creative subject Experience & Achievement Skills & Knowledge Substantial experience (3-5 years min) of producing artistic (theatre/dance/live performance) project work A proven track record of supporting artists to develop successful creative project work Project management, coordination and administration of dance/theatre/live performance projects Experience & achievement in a business development role, for example in leading successful grant applications of over 50K. Achievement in leading or influencing collaborative applications to foundations, trusts and agencies. Managing funded programmes through all stages of planning, organising, monitoring, evaluating and reporting to stakeholders. A proven track record in building and maintaining successful partnerships to support new artistic activities Budget management Commitment to equality Excellent planning & organisation skills; project and budget management - ability to deal effectively with multiple workload demands Coaching and mentoring skills Fundraising, sales and marketing in a cultural or education organisation. Experience with individual donor and membership schemes. Well-developed dance appreciation skills

6 Detailed working knowledge of dance administration, management and production Strong knowledge and understanding of the arts funding system and infrastructure in the UK Ability to think strategically - researching & developing funding opportunities that support strategic aims and generate significant financial contribution Creativity & innovation - ability to generate ideas and convert them into propositions Facilitation ability to listen, and guide ideas drawing on the talents of others, towards a defined goal Fundraising regulations & best practice. Contemporary dance and/or theatre Key cultural & education funders including Arts Council England Relevant personal networks Knowledge of fundraising models of relevance to 2Faced Dance Knowledge of the creative sector and other networks of relevance to our aims Personal qualities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively across business and cultural sectors Competent in office applications and database management Creative flair and entrepreneurship An unwavering passion for and commitment to live dance/theatre Personally credible with good influencing skills with a wide range of people and across sectors. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, personalities & management levels. Including excellent and persuasive writing skills; and good debating and presentation skills. Ability to work independently whilst judging when to seek guidance Valid UK driving license

7 and support from colleagues. Self-motivated, entrepreneurial & task oriented. Capable of working calmly and methodically whilst under pressure and dealing with multiple deadlines. Able to advocate the benefits that culture has on people and place. Enthusiasm & ability to develop yourself in the role, through personal practice as well as from colleagues, partners and other sources Flexible approach and the capacity to work the hours to fulfill the role. Ability and willingness to travel, primarily in the UK.
