1 Request for Proposals Marine Park Family Aquatic Center Fort Worth Public Art (FWPA) seeks designs from artists who work in any two-dimensional media residing in Fort Worth, Texas for a mosaic tile mural that will be featured on the entrance of the Marine Park Family Aquatic Center in Historic North Fort Worth. APPLICATION DEADLINE: 4:00 pm CST, Monday, December 17, PROJECT INFORMATION MEETING: 5:30 pm, Wednesday, November 14, 2012 ELIGIBILITY Open to professional 2D artists residing in Fort Worth, Texas who have not had public art experience. Artists currently under contract with the City of Fort Worth Public Art Program, employees of the City of Fort Worth and their spouses, employees of the Arts Council of Fort Worth & Tarrant County and their spouses, students, and members of the Fort Worth Art Commission are ineligible. Rendering courtesy of Brinkley Sargent Architects BACKGROUND The City of Fort Worth is constructing a new family aquatic center that will replace the existing Marine Park Pool in Council District 2. The new aquatic center will be located at the corner of 20 th and Ellis Streets and include a 13-foot deck, a lap pool, a zero entry pool for children and a Colonial-Spanish styled bathhouse designed to be compatible with the homes and buildings found in the Historic North side. The façade includes one large and eleven small arch insets to mark the entrance into the Aquatic Center. The design and construction of the facility is on an aggressive schedule, with construction underway and scheduled for completion in May PROJECT DETAILS This design only project will enable one professional artist to create a design for a mosaic tile mural that will be permanently featured on the 84 square-foot arch inset of the facility s entrance. While the smaller 11 arch insets will not be part of the public art budget or responsibility, the artist will have an opportunity to coordinate with the City s project consultants on color and layout. The selected artist will work closely with the selected fabricator, Tesserae Mosaic Studio, Inc. in order to become familiar with the public art process and ensure the design is feasible within the budget.

2 BUDGET The artist selected for this project will receive $4,000 for the development of the approved design. SITE INFORMATION The Aquatic Center will be located at 303 NW 20 th Street, in North Fort Worth, Texas (76114), across from the All Saints Catholic Church and directly west of the historic Main Street. The wall inset measures 6.8 in width x 10.4 in height which includes an arch radius of 3.4 at the top, for a total of 84 square feet. A site plan for the building and map of the park are attached to the RFP. PROJECT INFORMATION MEETING Artists interested in submitting a design for this project are encouraged to attend a Project Information Meeting Wednesday, November 14, 2012, 5:30 p.m. at the Rose Marine Theater, 1440 North Main Street, Representatives of the Parks and Community Services Department (PACS), Transportation / Public Works Department (T/PW), and the community stakeholders will be in attendance to give artists an overview of the project, information about the facility and answer questions. FWPA has issued an online survey requesting community input. Artists will be provided a summary of the results during the meeting. ARTIST SELECTION PROCESS The Fort Worth Art Commission s appointed selection panel, composed of arts professionals, City and community representatives will review the design proposals of all artists who submit complete applications by the deadline. One artist and one alternate will be recommended. The recommendation will be taken to the Fort Worth Art Commission for approval. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS In order to be considered, the following must be received by mail, or by hand to Fort Worth Public Art marked Marine Park Pool Project by 5:00 p.m., Monday, December 17, 2012: 1. Letter of Interest - adequately illustrate your interest and abilities as a professional artist 2. Resume 3. Sample Images and Image List Include 5 images of past work on a CD in JPEG format. 4. Narrative that describes the artwork concept 5. One (1) Design Illustration scaled at 13.6 in width x 20.8 in height, mounted on 1 rigid board. Faxed or ed applications will not be accepted. The Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant County, manages the program.
