1 Created: August 2013 Updated: September 2013 Rehearsal and Production Job Descriptions Table of Contents -Design Positions -Stage Management -Production Crew -Shop Hours -Front of House -Publicity Design Positions Scenic Designer Preferred Qualifications: Design 1, Stage Design and other duties as determined by Scenic Design Professor Reports to: Tom Tutino Be present at all design and production meetings Communicate scenic design ideas visually to director and design team by pre-determined deadlines Provide design drawings (Ground Plan, Elevation, etc) to Technical director by predetermined deadline Maintain communication with Scenic Design professor via weekly progress meetings Communicate with Technical Director and Production Manager in regards to budget Permission must be given before any purchases are made Assist in the construction and painting of scenery Attend all tech rehearsals and strike Assistant Scenic Designer Preferred Qualifications: Design 1and permission from Scenic Design Professor Reports to: Tom Tutino Be present at all design and production meetings Attend all tech rehearsals and strike Other duties as assigned by Scenic Designer

Costume Designer Preferred Qualifications: Costume Technology class, Costume Design class, and permission from Costume Professor Reports to: Shura Pollatsek Be at all production meetings and design meetings Communicate costume design ideas visually to director and design team by determined deadlines Maintain communication re: progress on show with Costume Professor and director Understand budget, and use of pro card, and get permission prior to any expenditures Pull, shop and make costumes as needed to implement costume designs by determined deadlines Perform fittings and needed alterations to costumes prior to tech rehearsals Provide a list of all costume pieces in show and laundry instructions to stage manager or wardrobe head Be at all tech and dress rehearsals, and strike. Assistant Costume Designer Preferred Qualifications: an interest in learning more about costume design Reports to: Shura Pollatsek Assisting designer varies show by show Technical Director Preferred Qualifications: Stagecraft, Stage Design Reports to: David Pierce Be present at all design and production meetings Handle any technical issues in regard to set construction Develop construction drawings for scene shop Maintain communication with design team, Director, Stage Manager throughout entire process Communicate with Faculty Technical Director and Production Manager in regards to budget Maintain scenery budget through build and tech process. Familiarize ones self with proper purchasing procedures Assist in construction of all scenery Lead load-in and strike Be present at all technical rehearsals

Lighting Designer Preferred Qualifications: Lighting Design class, Stage Electrics class, Permission from Lighting Design Advisor Reports to: Andy Duff Available for all design meetings, production meetings, paper tech, technical rehearsals and strike Responsible for paperwork, focusing, cueing, and any notes that may arise during technical rehearsals Oversee Master Electrician, Light Board Operator, and other lighting crewmembers. Sound Designer Preferred Qualifications: Design 1, Permission for Sound Design Advisor Reports to: Andy Duff Available for all design meetings, production meetings, paper tech, technical rehearsals and strike Responsible for paperwork, speaker placement, microphone placement and assignment, cueing Record any notes that may arise during technical rehearsals. During musicals, they are also the Sound engineer for Musical Productions Run the sound board if wireless mics are used Oversee Sound Board Operator and other sound crewmembers Properties Master (Props Master) Preferred Qualifications: Stagecraft, Design 1 Reports to: Jim Brown Be present at all design and production meetings Read script and develop props list Communicate props list with Director and Stage Management Maintain communication with Scenic Design professor and Faculty Props Mentor via weekly progress meetings Familiarize ones self with proper purchasing procedures Build and/or pull all rehearsal props for the production Should be done ASAP after conversation with Director and Stage Management Build, pull, and purchase all show props necessary for the production Show props are delivered during the first tech rehearsal Be present at all technical rehearsals
4 Job Descriptions- 4 Stage Management Production Stage Manager (PSM) Preferred Qualifications: Stage Management class, Previous SM work or permission from Stage Management Advisor Reports to: Andy Duff The duties of the PSM will differ from show to show The Production Stage Manager (PSM) is expected to be Attend all auditions, callbacks, rehearsals, production meetings, performances and strike. Record blocking notes, track rehearsal props, costumes and scenery, and record line notes during rehearsals Communicate director notes to the production designers Call and run all technical rehearsals Call and run all performances. Oversee Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Managers, and run crew Stage Manager (SM) Preferred Qualifications: Stage Management class, permission from Stage Management Advisor Reports to: PSM, Andy Duff The duties of the SM will differ from show to show Available for all rehearsals, production meetings, performances and strike Track rehearsal props, costumes and scenery during rehearsals Prompt actors while being on book Record any line notes Specific rehearsal duties will determined by PSM and the Stage Management Advisor Run Backstage area during tech and performances Oversees the Assistant Stage Managers and run crew Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) Preferred Qualifications: Leadership Ability, permission from Stage Management Advisor Reports to: PSM, Andy Duff The duties of the ASM will differ from show to show Available for all technical rehearsals, performances and strike, or as agreed upon by the PSM,SM, and the Stage Management Advisor Track props, costumes and scenery during technical rehearsals and performances.
5 Job Descriptions- 5 Production Crew Master Electrician (ME) Preferred Qualifications: Stage Electrics class Reports to: Lighting Designer, Andy Duff Available and present at all work calls, technical rehearsals, performances and strike, or as agreed upon by the LD and the Lighting Advisor Responsible for circuiting lighting plot, keeping paperwork accurate Oversee lighting crew during work calls Installing any special lighting needs such as run lights Maintain integrity of the design during performances. Oversees the Light Board Operator and the lighting crewmembers Run Crew Reports to: Production Stage Manager Arrive on time to all technical rehearsals and performances Call times will be given my stage management prior to first tech Dates are posted at the top of the Assignments by Show sheet Move scenery before, during, and after performances Assist with scene shifts during performances Set props table before all performances Sweep and mop stage prior to every technical rehearsal or performance Perform minor maintenance to set pieces Assist with strike Other duties as assigned Wardrobe Head Preferred Qualifications: Costume Technology class, Prior crew experience, leadership ability Reports to: Costume Designer, Wardrobe Head, Production Stage Manager Supervise Wardrobe Crew and coordinate distribution of duties Communicate designer s notes to cast and crew during dress rehearsals Check in all clothing before and after each performance Be sure cast is wearing costumes at correct times and in specified manner Assist cast with dressing and quick changes Coordinate laundry with designer and Costume Maintenance crew Check costumes for damage and facilitate repairs as needed Do ironing, steaming and other prep work as needed Assist with costume strike

Wardrobe Crew Reports to: Wardrobe Head/Production Stage Manager Check in all clothing before and after each performance Be sure cast is wearing costumes at correct times and in specified manner Assist cast with dressing and quick changes Check costumes for damage and facilitate repairs as needed Do ironing, steaming and other prep work as needed Assist with costume strike Costume Maintenance Crew Reports to: Costume Designer, Wardrobe Head Do laundry daily during dress rehearsal and performance period, following detailed instructions from costume designer and wardrobe head Iron and steam costumes as needed Assist with repairs or other maintenance as needed Hair Supervisor Preferred Qualifications: Hair styling facilitation, Leadership ability Reports to: Costume Designer, Production Stage Manager Supervise Hair Crew coordinate distribution of duties Communicate designer s notes to Crew and cast during dress rehearsals Assist cast with styling hair as per costume designer s instructions Maintain and organize hair supplies for the run of the show Assist with strike of makeup room and with costume strike Hair Crew Preferred Qualifications: Some experience with hair styling Reports to: Hair Supervisor, Costume Designer Assist cast with styling hair as per costume designer s instructions Maintain and organize hair supplies for the run of the show Assist with strike of makeup room and with costume strike

8 Job Descriptions- 8 Shop Hours Costume Shop Hours Preferred Qualifications: Costume Technology class Reports to: Jennie Ingram Assist with building costumes and alterations Assist with maintenance of costume shop facility and costume storage Other duties as assigned by costume shop supervisor Schedule regular hours with costume shop supervisor at beginning of semester Scene Shop Hours Preferred Qualifications: Stagecraft Reports to: David Pierce Assist with building and painting of scenery Assist with maintenance of scene shop facility and storage areas Other duties as assigned Must schedule regular shop hours with Technical Director at beginning of semester Department Office Hours Preferred Qualifications: Performing Arts Admin. minor, basic office skills Reports to: Doris Patrick, Ellen Glatman Assist with day-to-day operations of department office Other duties as assigned
9 Job Descriptions- 9 Front of House House Manager Reports to: David Pierce Required Duties Attend final dress rehearsal to get timing of show Communicate number of programs on hand to office after each performance Pick up printed programs from department office prior to 4:30 on performance days Arrive at least 1.5 hours before curtain Turn on lobby lights and insure lobby and house are clean and ready for patrons Take roll of ushers that are present This list must be given to David after the show closes Advise ushers on folding programs Instruct ushers on how to help patrons locate their seats Distribute usher nametags Assign usher to card swiper after each performance Communicate with Production Stage Manager (PSM) before opening house to patrons Communicate with box office and PSM before closing house Release ushers after intermission has ended Turn off lobby lights at the conclusion of each night Box Office Crew Reports to: Ellen Glatman Complete training on box office ticketing system Handle ticketing transactions before each performance Administer Will Call tickets as needed Place cash drawers in safe at the end of each night Lock up box office Parking Crew Reports to: Ellen Glatman Required duties: Russell Miller o Place parking signs reserving gated lot o Man gated lot and hand parking permits to patrons prior to performance Van Meter o Place cones to reserve spaces in front of Van Meter o Pull cones so patrons can park o Monitor old fort lot for disabled parking
10 Job Descriptions- 10 Publicity Publicity Head Preferred Qualifications: Leadership Ability, Experience in Performing Arts Admin. Reports to: David Pierce, Julie Pride Coordinate program information for all department productions Obtain names of all crew and production team members and their positions Develop a first draft of the program Attend last production meeting (Wednesday s, 8:30am, FAC 221) with soft final draft of program for faculty approval Present hard final draft to faculty on Monday of tech week Supervise publicity crews for each show. See that posters are distributed to crew members. Instruct crew members on how, where, and by what date to hang posters. See that posters are hung with enough lead time for each show. Check poster locations assigned to each crew member and report findings to David Pierce and Julie Pride via . (If posters are not there, please hang them as needed.) Fill in as needed if a crew member is unable to complete their job. Follow up with crew members about concerns. Publicity Crew Reports to: Publicity Head Hang posters as instructed by deadline date. Be good poster citizens. Do not hang directly over someone else s event. Remove any old Theatre and Dance posters you may come across. Report any concerns to Publicity Head-such as a business not allowing posters. Pass along any possible new locations for posters.
