4 4 Banking made easy HSBC Passport is designed to meet all your banking needs, so you can be relaxed and confident about managing your finances when you arrive in the UK. With HSBC Passport, you ll receive a fully functional debit card, allowing you 24-hour access to your money. You ll also be able to choose exactly how you control your money at our branches by phone or via the internet, enjoy competitive rates for transferring money back home or start to save with a Flexible Saver Account. HSBC Passport has an initial fixed term of 12 months and is renewable monthly afterwards. HSBC Passport currently has an 8 per month fee. 5 5 Flexible Saver Account For you to save money Once you ve found a job and started earning, you may want to start saving. 9 9 Getting started is easy We just need to confirm who you are and where you ve come from. We will need you to bring in one form of identification and one non-uk address verification to your local branch. Identification Valid Passport Valid National Identity Card Please note: We do not accept online bills or statements. National Identity Card cannot be used to both prove identification and verification of address. Gas, Electricity and Telephone Bills, letters from university, college or language schools and Bank Statements must be dated within the last three months at the time that account opening is completed (when you arrive in the UK). We may undertake further checks and request additional information. Non-UK means your home country, the place you are relocating from. Non-UK address verification Drivers Licence (must include address, signature and photograph) Valid National Identity Card Bank, building society or credit union statement Gas or electricity bill Telephone bill (mobile phone bills are not accepted) Letter from a UK employer, in English, on official headed paper If you are an international student: Letter from a UK university, college or recognised language school, in English, on headed paper with the school s address, signed and dated, stating the duration of your course and your non-uk address What happens next? Once your account has been opened, the following will occur: } Your card will be ordered. } A PIN number will be sent to your UK address in three to five working days. } As soon as you make your first deposit, you will receive a statement which you can then use as UK identification.

11 11 If you have a complaint please let your local branch manager or the manager of the department concerned know. We will endeavour to resolve your concerns and put matters right. If your complaint is not settled to your satisfaction you may be able to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service in the UK, the Financial Services Commissions in Jersey or Guernsey and the Financial Services Ombudsman Scheme for the Isle of Man. Our Listening to your comments leaflet contains further details. Passport This brochure only sets out a summary of HSBC Passport. HSBC Passport is subject to status. HSBC Passport is only available to customers aged 16 or over. We will tell you if your application has been successful and when we will open your account. This may be subject to appropriate identification, address verification or other specified documentation being produced to us. HSBC Passport and the products/services available through HSBC Passport are subject to terms and conditions which you will be given when you apply. You can cancel HSBC Passport either: if you apply for HSBC Passport when you are not in the UK, 14 days after you attend at your UK branch to complete all necessary formalities, or if you are already in the UK when you apply for HSBC Passport, 14 days after the date we opened your account. In both of these situations, there will be no charge. If you choose to cancel HSBC Passport within the cancellation period you must return all items provided to you under the HSBC Passport Service in new and unused condition. After the 14 day cancellation period, you will not be able to close HSBC Passport within the initial 12-month period and you will be required to make the monthly fees during this time. You are not liable for any transactions undertaken if your HSBC Bank international debit card is misused by someone who obtained it without your consent. We may investigate and ultimately hold registered cardholders liable if we believe/prove that the cardholder was negligent, or participated/ assisted in the completion of the fraudulent transactions. Some cash machine operators may apply a direct charge for cash withdrawals and this will be advised on the screen at the time of withdrawal. You will not be charged for using HSBC Bank ATMs in the UK. UK currency cash machine You can use your debit card to make cash withdrawals in Euros or US Dollars from some of our self-service machines. The HSBC prevailing exchange rate and the amount of currency you will receive and the Sterling amount will be shown on the screen. The amount of the cash withdrawal converted into Sterling will be deducted from your account balance immediately. Using your card abroad General: The exchange rate that applies to any foreign currency debit card payments (including cash withdrawals) is the wholesale market rate used by VISA applying on the day the conversion is made plus our foreign exchange charge, which is currently 2.75% of the applicable VISA wholesale rate. We will make the conversion and deduct the payment from your account once we receive details of the payment from VISA, at the latest the next working day. Details of the current wholesale market rates can be obtained by calling us on the usual telephone numbers. Cash Machines: There is an ATM transaction fee currently 2% (minimum 1.75, maximum 5.00) for withdrawing cash at cash machines overseas. We will deduct the amount of the transaction fee from your account once we receive details of the payment from the card scheme, at the latest the next working day. Some cash machine operators may apply a direct charge for withdrawals from their cash machines and this will be advised on screen at the time of withdrawal.
12 12 Shops and retailers: There is no transaction fee for using your debit card to pay for goods and services overseas. Our Internet Banking and Telephone Banking services are subject to scheduled maintenance periods. Lines are open 8am to 10pm every day (excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year s Day). To help us continually improve our service and in the interests of security, we may monitor and/or record your communications with us. Talkmobile Calls to 4722 are free from your Talkmobile phone, calls to all other HSBC phone numbers are chargeable at the standard rate. Your Talkmobile SIM card will be provided to you by Carphone Warehouse and your contract for the phone and any calls you make will be directly with them.
