1 POPREEL 1: SURF LIFE AUSTRALIA, STEAMPUNK AND STEEL BAND Let s get together and play! Is training hard on the beach something for you? Ironman surf lifesaving is big in Australia and the club in Newport has the best practitioners in the country. Find out why these lifesavers think it is so important to train hard. Are you interested in science fiction, top hats, corsets, retro futurism and the Victorian era? Then Steampunk is for you! Join us while we meet some enthusiastic Steam punkers in Hollywood. Where do you find a high C on a steel pan? The students of Antigua Girls High School know every tone on theirs and think everybody in the Caribbean should be able to play steel pan. What instrument do you think everyone in Scandinavia should play? Think about it while watching the talented girls in Antigua play.
2 A. LISTEN AND WRITE Below you will find expressions used in the programme. In what context are they used and what do they mean, do you think? Try to imagine the opposite; What do you think the world would be like if we didn t have equipment such as mobile phones, computers or surf pads? Do you think we would have something else instead? What new inventions do you think there are?

5 D EXTRA MATERIAL Pretend you are in Australia and write a traveller s journal. If you have access to digital equipment, record short movies and add them to a blog as a video log. Use apps for green screen to make it look as if you are actually in Australia. Watch parts of the movie Back to the future. Use an animation app, such as Toontastic and create your own futuristic animation. Listen closely to the section from Antigua about steel bands. Write down every sentence just as they say them in the video. How does the grammar differ from regular English? Why do you think that is?
