1 BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE PARAMEDIC PROGRAM PARAMEDIC PROGRAM MISSION The mission of the Paramedic Program is to provide a strong educational foundation so future paramedics may improve the health and welfare of Kern County residents by providing the highest quality prehospital emergency medical care. The Paramedic Program is designed to provide students with the education and experience to perform as competent, entry level Paramedics. PROGRAM ACCREDITATION Bakersfield College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The Bakersfield College Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) on behalf of the recommendation from the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). GENERAL PROGRAM INFORMATION The Paramedic Program is an month program that culminates in a certificate of achievement or an associate of science degree if the student completes the college general education courses. The program consists of 3 components: Didactic, Clinical-Hospital Rotations and Field Internship. Students should anticipate making a full-time commitment to the program during the academic terms. Summer sessions are required and may be scheduled beyond the regular college session dates. The didactic courses are scheduled primarily during the day, however the Clinical Rotation and Field Internship could be scheduled days, nights and on weekends. Students may be assigned to any clinical rotation center in any geographical location and must provide their own transportation to the clinical sites. The Program provides the theory, skill, and experience necessary to apply for admission to the licensure exam administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians; and for licensure from the State of California, California EMS Authority, as Licensed Paramedic. Students must earn a minimum grade of C in all paramedic courses, have met the state-mandated curriculum and clinical hours, met all clinical education competencies, and earned the Certificate of Achievement or Associate in Science degree to be recommended for these examinations/certifications.
