2 Positioners, converters, limit switches, position transmitters, solenoid valves, and lock-up valves are transfer elements designed to adapt pneumatic control valves to the requirements of industrial plants. Supply pressure regulators and air reducing stations are used to supply the pneumatic instruments with compressed air. Positioners ensure a predetermined assignment between the valve position (controlled variable x) and control signal (reference variable w). They compare the control signal issued by pneumatic or electric automation equipment (controller, control station, process control system) to the travel or opening angle of the control valve and supply a corresponding output signal pressure (output variable y) (p st ). Positioners are often used as servo-booster as they convert low-energy signals into strong proportional signal pressures up to the maximum supply pressure (6 bar/90 psi). They can be used in standard and split-range operation. Depending on the input signal, a distinction is made between pneumatic (p/p) and electropneumatic (i/p) positioners. Pneumatic positioners accept an input signal of 0.2 to 1 bar (3 to 15 psi) and issue an output signal pressure (p st ) of maximum 6 bar (90 psi). Electropneumatic (i/p) positioners use an analog direct current signal of 4(0) to 20 ma or 1 to 5 ma as the input variable and issue an output signal pressure (p st ) up to 6 bar (90 psi). The Type Positioner additionally uses HART communication between field devices and the process control system. The Types , and 3785 PROFIBUS Positioners and the Type FOUNDATION TM Fieldbus Positioner are used to integrate final control elements into fieldbus systems. Electropneumatic (i/p) converters convert a DC input signal (control signal) directly into a pneumatic control signal (output signal pressure p st ). Limit switches consist of two inductive, electric or pneumatic contacts. They issue a signal whenever an adjusted limit is exceeded or not reached. Analog position transmitters assign a continuous 4 to 20 ma output signal to the valve travel. They signalize both end positions of the valve "Valve OPEN" and "Valve CLOSED" as well as intermediate valve positions. Solenoid valves convert binary signals issued by electric control equipment into binary pneumatic control signals. Lock-up valves shut off the signal pressure line of a pneumatic actuator upon failure of supply air or when the supply air falls below an adjusted value. As a result, the actuator is blocked. The control valve remains in its last position until the fault has been eliminated. The pneumatic remote adjuster is a precision regulator that can be adjusted precisely by hand. 5 Digital positioners The Type 3730, Type 3731, Type 3785, and Type 3787 Positioners are single-acting or double-acting positioners designed for attachment to pneumatic linear or rotary actuators. Compared to conventional positioners, the use of digital signal processing provides the following advantages: User-friendly operation Automatic adjustment of zero and span during the initialization procedure (except for Type ) Automatic detection of faults occurring in the actuator Direction of action independent of the mounting position Permanent monitoring of zero Minimized air consumption Safe storage of all parameters in non-volatile EEPROM Optionally, these positioners may be equipped with the following additional functions: One or two inductive limit switches (proximity switches) Forced fail-safe venting of the actuator over a solenoid valve upon failure of an external signal. As a result, the control valve moves to its fail-safe position. 7 Type Electropneumatic Positioner in ESD version Emergency Shutdown (ESD) is a positioner function with extended firmware and partial stroke testing for the predictive, status-oriented detection of malfunctions in pneumatic shut-off valves in safety-relevant systems. The shutdown function in the event of emergency can also be implemented with the positioner certified acc. to IEC The testing and diagnostic functions are completely integrated into the positioner and listed in T EN. The positioner in ESD version is based on the Type Positioner with HART communication. The basic functions, attachment, and technical data are identical for both positioners and are described in T /3 EN also containing the ordering specifications. Data is transferred between the TROVIS-VIEW software and the SAMSON device either directly using a connecting cable or infrared adapter or indirectly using a memory pen or memory module. A direct connection enables both online and offline operation. This means that data can be changed in the device immediately, or they can be saved on the PC first and later downloaded to the device on site. The device-specific modules contain a database providing the characteristic properties of each device type, such as parameters, data points, user levels, etc. Refer to T 6661 EN for details. 11 System 6000 Converters for direct current signal Type 6116 Electropneumatic Converter Devices used to convert a direct current input signal into a pneumatic output signal for measuring and control. Especially suitable as intermediate element between electric measuring devices and pneumatic controllers or between electric control devices and pneumatic control valves. The electropneumatic converter can be combined with various pneumatic positioners to provide a flameproof version. In this way, analog devices such as control valves or positioners can be easily integrated into an AS-Interface. The devices merely need a connecting base that corresponds to DIN An analog device connected to the TROVIS 6150 AS-Interface Module forms an AS-Interface slave. The AS-Interface master allocates an address to this slave. Certain errors are indicated on site by two LEDs as specified by the AS-Interface specification 2.1. Refer to T 6150 EN for details. 12 Limit switches, position transmitters The limit switches supply a signal when an adjusted limit value is exceeded in either direction. This signal is suitable for initiating visual or audible alarms as well as pilot valves or other switching units. Moreover, the limit switches can be connected to central control or alarm systems.
