1 2017 Wahadachi & WJI State Judo Championship Dear Fellow Judoka, We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our annual Wahadachi and WJI State Judo Championship on Sunday, January 29, We will be returning to our past tournament location at Milwaukee Lutheran High School, located at 9700 W Grantosa Dr in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Please find enclosed information for our upcoming Wahadachi Judo & WJI State Championship Tournament, as well as two exciting clinics on Saturday, January 28 th, Once again, we will be using the registration and pooling system that the Welcome Mat uses to run their tournaments (Santa Shiai, Welcome Mat Open, Badger Open tournaments). We encourage all competitors to take advantage of our online registration to pre-register for the tournament. I recognize that some of you decide the night before whether to participate in the tournament and are willing to pay a higher fee for the flexibility. However, preregistration is one of the key enablers to reducing wait times and running a successful tournament. I encourage everyone to take advantage of pre-registration. Don t wait until the day of the tournament and have to pay $60. If you decide not to participate, we will refund your fee. Online registration will be open until 8pm on January 26 th. Please support Wahadachi Judo and Judo in the Midwest by encouraging your club members to participate and register online for our tournament today. We also hope that many of you will be able to also attend the WJI Judo Clinics and Hall of Fame dinner on Saturday the 30 th. One last note, the Wisconsin Judo Inc Coaches Code of Dress and Conduct at Local, State and Regional Events will be in effect at this tournament. Match length: 3 minutes for Juniors, Senior Novice and Masters. 5 minutes for Advanced Senior divisions. Mixed Gender Pools allowed only for ages 8 and under. Chokes allowed for ages 13 and up. Armlocks only allowed in Senior and Master divisions between players who are both ranked Sankyu or above. Unranked players may not use armlocks. Golden Score will apply. 3 JUNIOR DIVISIONS Novice divisions may be created when the number of players in that age/weight group will support at least 4 players in each of the advanced and novice divisions created and maximizes the number of matches for the players. Novice divisions when created, at the Director s discretion may consist of any combination from white through orange belts. Since groupings will not be known until day of tournament, white, yellow and orange belt players should express preference for advanced grouping, if available, on the registration form. We are reviewing the new USA Judo Junior age divisions and may adopt the new age groupings based on year of birth rather than age Day of Tournament. In either case, our age grouping will be done in the way that best ensures adequate competition for all players. Each age division will be divided into appropriate weight groupings as determined by entries. Our goal is to keep divisions within 10 pounds in the under 100 pound groups and within 20 pounds over in the over 100 pound groups.
