Interwrite Workspace for Mac Level 1 Lesson Mode Lesson Mode is the primary operational mode of Interwrite Workspace. It allows you to interact with your computer from the Interwrite Board, from Interwrite Pads, and from an Interwrite Panel, while every aspect of that interaction is projected onto the Interwrite Board, or another projection surface, where everyone in the room can see it. An electronic Interwrite Pen is used on the Interwrite Board, the Interwrite Pad, or the Interwrite Panel as a mouse (Mouse Mode) to run applications and open files. Or, it is used as an Annotation Tool to write notes, draw things, and type text (Annotation Mode). You will use the extensive set of Interwrite Tools and the functionality of the Interwrite Workspace software as your presentation requires. Using Lesson Mode requires a minimal hardware configuration that includes an Interwrite Device, a projection surface (if you are not using an Interwrite DualBoard), a video presentation projector, and a computer on which the Interwrite Workspace software is installed. Annotation Mode/Mouse Mode The operational mode, Interactive Mode, has two functional modes, Annotation Mode and Mouse Mode. You are in Mouse Mode when your desktop is active and you are guiding your cursor with your electronic Interwrite Pen to select and run applications and perform all the functions you would normally perform with your computer mouse and keyboard. The Mouse Mode tool on the Toolbar will be grayed out when you are in Mouse Mode. You are in Annotation Mode when the Annotation Window is open. When you are in Annotation Mode, you can use the Annotation Tools to write and draw on the page, the Page Tools to create additional pages and the Multimedia Tools to add a variety of multimedia files to the pages in the presentation file. Annotation Tools An Annotation Tool is any tool that draws, writes, or types text. An additional characteristic of an Annotation Tool is that when it is selected while Workspace is in Mouse Mode, it will initiate the Capture function and put Workspace into Annotation Mode. Annotation Tools include: Pen, Multicolor Pen, Highlighter, Text, Line, Shapes, and Stamper.

Page Tools Page Tools comprise tools for page creation Create Blank Page, Create Grid Page, Create Image Page, Create Duplicate Page, and Capture. Multimedia Tools Multimedia Tools are the tools that use multiple forms of information content and information processing, e.g., audio, graphics to add interest to a presentation. Multimedia tools include: Gallery, Audio File, and Screen Capture. Presentation File Is the GWB file created by Workspace. A presentation file consists of pages. Pages are fashioned from screen captures, made either with the Capture tool or when an Annotation Tool is selected, or by adding specific page types using one of the page creation tools. Toolbar The Interwrite Workspace Toolbar is positioned along the right side of the screen when you open Workspace in Lesson Mode. The Factory Basic Scheme is the default arrangement of tools on the Toolbar (shown above). You can switch among the supplied Toolbar schemes, or define your own custom arrangement of tools using the Customize Toolbar Preferences option.

Workspace Menu Click the Workspace Menu icon. The menu below is displayed. This menu provides access to all the Workspace menus. File Menu allows the user to: Create a new Workspace Presentation Open a saved Workspace Presentation Save/Save As a Workspace Presentation Print (or save to PDF) a Workspace Presentation Export a Workspace Presentation to HTML, JPG, or PDF Window Menu allows the user to: Close the active window Minimize the active window Zoom the active window Access Interwrite SIMS & timer Select the mouse mode, onscreen keyboard, gallery, and curtain Tools Menu allows the user to: Access selection, pen, multicolor pen, highlighter, eraser, shapes, line, text box, stamper, and spotlight tools

Preferences The Preferences tool opens in a dialog. Configure preferences for the tools and functions of your Interwrite Workspace through this dialog under the following heads: General Preferences General preferences are configuration options for the most common Interwrite tools. Grid Page Preferences Use the Options Preferences to configure the grid page layout on Interwrite Workspace. Customize Toolbar Use this Preferences selection to organize, add, and remove tools on your Toolbar and in your Toolbox. Toolbar Settings Use this Preferences dialog to configure the buttons on your Toolbars.

Factory Basic Scheme Tools 1. Minimize Toolbar Click this tool to minimize the size of the toolbar. 2. Workspace Menu Access the File, Edit, Tools, Preferences, and Help Menus. For opening, saving, and exporting a Workspace document, the File menu is the most useful. 3. Mouse Mode Mouse button allows you to leave your Workspace page and return back to your active desktop or application. The software will take a snapshot of your Workspace page/annotation and store it in the page sorter so you do not lose your work when you click on the Mouse button. 4. Selection Tool Select, move, or modify the annotations or objects (images, shapes, text) on your Workspace pages. 5. Pen Write or make notes on your screen or blank Workspace page. Change the pen s color, line thickness, or shape by using the Properties Bar at the bottom of the Workspace page. 6. Eraser Erase part of an annotation you have made. 7. Delete All/Clear Clear all annotations off a Workspace page. 8. Blank Page Create a blank Workspace page. 9. Gallery Insert content from the built-in Gallery to your document. The resources are organized by subject area and need to be installed on the computer via the Interwrite Content download. 10. Page Back/Page Forward Navigate forwards or backwards to saved Workspace pages. 11. Page Sorter View thumbnails of all Workspace pages. Select, re-arrange, or delete unwanted pages. 12. Save file Saves a workspace document to a PRE-DETERMINED file location. You do not get to give this file a name or browse for save location of your choice when this button is selected. 13. Toolbox Allows access to additional tools not found on the Toolbar. 14. Exit Workspace Close the Workspace application. If pages have not been saved you will be prompted to save. You are not required to save your pages if you do not need them once the application is closed.

Other Tools Teachers Like! Capture This tool allows you to selectively capture a portion of your screen. This can be a capture of another software application s screen or from a Workspace page. Freehand Text Pen automatically converts handwritten words to print. It is only available when the computer is connected to an Interwrite Board, Interwrite Pad, or MOBI tablet. Record and Playback Records your voice (as long as your computer is connected to a microphone) as well as your annotations on programs or documents that are active on your computer screen. A great tool for recording individual lessons for students who may have missed class or need multiple repetitions of a concept to enhance their learning. Stamper Places a single small picture on a Workspace page, just like a rubber stamp. There are several pre-loaded stamps that will appear in the Properties Bar at the bottom of the screen. Curtain The curtain allows you to hide material that you don t want students to see. The curtain is resizable, movable, and can vary in color and transparency

Using Layers The Layers tool can be used to manage all of the items that make up your Workspace page. A Layer in Workspace is analogous to a clear folder that contains artwork. For example, if you reshuffle the folders, you change the stacking order of the items in your artwork. You use the Layers function to list, organize, and edit the objects in a document. By default, every new page contains one layer, and each object you create is listed under that layer. However, you can create new layers and rearrange items to best suit your needs. Minimized Layers Toolbar Maximized Layers Toolbar The structure of layers in your Workspace page can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. By default, all items are organized in a single, parent layer. However, you can create new layers and move items into them.

Working with Layers Layers Tools Creating Layers within Workspace 1. Open a New Page within Lesson Mode. 2. Draw, annotate, or add a picture to the page. 3. Click Add Layer. A new layer is added to the page. Continue to annotate and add layers by clicking the Add Layer button. The active layer is highlighted in black. 4. Remove a layer from the page by clicking Remove Layer. 5. Use the arrows to move a selected Layer to change layer order. 6. Click Save from the File Menu. The Save GWB File window opens. 7. Name your file and click Save. The file is saved and retains all layer information for future use.

Multi User Functionality The Multi User feature allows for two or more people to interact with the Interwrite Products. With the Interwrite DualBoard, two people can write on the board at the same time. In addition, you can set up multiple Interwrite Mobis and Interwrite Pads to display on the board at the same time. This function is backwards compatible with Interwrite Pads. Setting Up Multi User Functionality in Workspace 1. While in the Annotation Window, click the Multi User icon in the bottom right corner. The Multi User Page Setup window opens. 2. If you have not already done so, connect the devices you need to Workspace. You can add up to 9 devices. NOTE: Do not add the tablet you need for controlling the Main Toolbar and the other devices. If you do, the only way you can maintain control over all the multi-user devices is from the computer or the mouse. 3. Select the Multi User Page Setup you want to use. Determine if you want to use Collaborative or Defined areas. Red Collaborative Areas Blue Defined Areas

4. Select the device and drag it to the area needed. Leave one device out to keep control of all users and the entire area. Exiting Multi-User Complete the following steps to stop the Multi-User function within Workspace. 1. While in the Annotation Window, click the Multi User icon in the bottom right corner. 2. Select Turn Multi-User Off. The function is turned off, the devices are no longer available for simultaneous input stop interacting with the DualBoard, but the screen with the annotations remains. If needed, save the Workspace file.
