The Study on Educational Information System Based on GIS LI Jinyang 1, XU Jinghua 1, FAN Jianrong 2 1. GIS Engineering Center of Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences & Ministry of Water Resources, Chengdu, jhxv@home.swjtu.edu.cn Abstract: The Educational informationization contributes to rational and intellectual distribution of education resources. This paper apply GIS technology method, in view of area educational resources to compare and analyze, all kinds of educational reasonable allocation of resources, regional requirements of regional educational balanced development, such as integrated storage of educational information, statistics, spatial analysis research. The system has been researched and has educational information integration management, visualization and intelligent query, analysis and comparison, the auxiliary emergency decision-making functions. Keywords: education information, GIS, spatial analysis, auxiliary emergency decision-making 1 Introduction Our educational field has developed rapidly, the urban education system has the progressive improvement, and rural education has also been developing. The fundamental geographic information related to education in a certain extent influence educational resources distribution and educational development level. For example, water resources, terrain, transportation, distribution, population density, economic level other factors on the teaching environment quality, education facilities distribution, teachers strength configuration; teaching quality had a huge influence. GIS is a tool that analysis spatial data and visualize information, we find GIS can help users understand the educational resource distribution with ocular way, which through the combining technology of analysis and mining can help decision makers and researchers caught some rules hidden in the data [1]. Such as, Evaluate education development level of different areas effectively, educational security (view geographical position of schools, whether far from disasters zone, Evaluate the conditions school safety. To evacuate teachers and students to a safe area in emergency) etc. At present, the cases of GIS educational application at home and abroad are rare. Therefore, research Educational GIS to have the important meaning based on GIS technology method. 2 Educational GIS Design Educational GIS with its system on the usual functions, including data management, used to manage teaching facilities, etc. On the other hand, combine GIS spatial analysis and educational industry, analyzed the spatial distribution situation of teaching facilities, which used for assessment of the buildings, and disaster prevention ability of contingency planning. 2.1 Overall design To help researchers query and analysis the correlation of the education information conveniently, Assist decision-making schoolhouse location, Design emergency plan, etc. Educational GIS should has function as follows: 1. To provide data input service, including direct input and the indirect input service by the system administrator, making needs and data needed by researcher can be conveniently store into the system. 2. To provide data query analysis service, including text-based search analysis and based on the digital map analysis query. 285
3. Have the function of educational project facture and posted. the making and release of geographic special charts is a difficult task, where upon the system did not develop tools facing the researchers' special charts made and released directly, but by using GIS software visual and special charts provided function and Visual Studio 2005 programming tools to provide the system administrator with the making and release special charts tools and templates, let the system administrator produce and release special charts for researchers after [2]. 4. To provide development and integration on-demand design auxiliary tool.according to their own needs users can develop auxiliary tools and integrated into the system. Based on system design goal, the overall construction ideas of the system design is shown in fig.1. design and development of regional education information system Map operation tools Data analysis tool Special charts tools Spatial analysis tools Data query Statistical charts show Buffer analysis Fold buy analysis Fig 1 System function diagram This system includes the following function modules: Map operation tools: it means map management function, including zooming, Browse the full pic, the map to browse, roaming, hawk eye display. Data query: Data attributes query. It is convenient for user to view data and the reflected relationship by the data area, the query result displayed in data table. Statistical charts show: According to the need of user Settings inquires to see different education condition, the information resources, and results to list the form of and draw up the statistical graphic, user-friendly comparative analysis in different areas of the education level. Special charts tools: According to user's view of education information needs, making different types of thematic map for users to view the education resources distribution and education level of different areas. Buffer analysis: Through certain cushioning elements, Establish buffer zones to check whether the traffic conditions is convenient, the geographical position is far from disasters zone, whether evacuate students to secure area in emergency. Fold buy analysis: Stack the school geography distribution and geography elements layer can assist the schoolhouse location. With natural disasters area overlay, to evaluate teaching facilities safety, aided decision can found threats, and prevent timely. 2.2 Data storage strategy A database is a particular structure for certain purposes services, stored associated data set. System database includes two parts, namely, geographical background database and education subject database, both interrelated constitute a system database. Geographical background database: storage fundamental geographic information, relevant dot, line, face elements, through ArcGIS desktop software in vector change access roads, administrative region boundary point, administrative region, river system elements and so on. Education subject database: Storage data with table structure, including the spatial distribution of schools, the number of students and schools. Data table can be imported with Excel form by Arc Catalog Simple Data Loader. 286
Finally, connect attribute database and spatial database through ID code, complete to establish database. 3 Technical Route System adopts ArcEngine software platform using a programming language to develop system function. Use ArcEngine, the developers could embedded GIS function to the existing applications, such as costumed industrial software and commercial software, Microsoft Word and Excel. ArcEngine is composed by two component of product: the software setups and the distributed runtime [3]. 4 Experimental System Development Through the programming for the design of the system function.the main interface system is showed by Fig. 2. toolbar Menu bar Map view area Layer control hawk eye display The status bar Fig 2 System main interface 4.1 Data query After entering system to query by different ways, such as, attribute inquire, figure check attribute (results can be displayed on the map), conditions query (limit a condition, inquires the inside certain limits of attribute data). 4.2 Special charts tools Special charts can conveniently and intuitively display a regional education information, vividly and intuitively describe area education level and education institutions quantity distribution. for Sichuan province as an example, choose and view educational information, through the size and distribution of spots to display graphics educational resource distribution regions. Fig.3 for the columnar special charts of elementary school numbers. Fig.4 for the special charts of kindergarten schools numbered density. 287
Fig 3 The special chart for the average number of elementary school in the province Fig 4 The special charts for the number of kindergarten schools in the province To view various education levels in a certain area, through procedure number, it can show the region's education institutions at various levels and then draw up the graph, intuitive clearly shown the levels of school education institutions for the region as a whole number of proportion. Fig.5 for various statistical figure numbers of Chengdu city schools. Fig 5 The special chart of Chengdu schools 4.3 Spatial analysis Buffer analysis buffer analysis for transportation network,as Fig. 6 shown, plaque-forming element is all kinds school of position in figure, setting appropriate buffer radius, buffer analysis can check whether the school is located in the buffer zone of a road, or near to a path of buffer, meanwhile for the disaster areas according to the disaster situation threat to carry on the buffer, to expel route that in the buffer of 288
network and auxiliary formulate evacuated to safety area in emergency incidents Fold buy analysis Fold the distribution of teaching facilities and influence factors of layer (such as location: rivers, geomorphology, transportation, etc) for analysis, could be used for location. In addition to evaluate the security situation of teaching in analysis, to a great extent, considerate natural disaster's threat its distribution and natural disasters area of superposition, can intuitive evaluation of the security situation, assistant decision-making discovery threats and to prevent timely. 5 Conclusion Fig 6 Network buffer analysis This paper introduces the designation and development of educational geographic information system and experiment system.system will combine education informatization and GIS technologies,,thus constructe auxiliary management decision-making information platform. The system provides abundant educational information query, retrieval, the making of educational related special map, geographic information space analysis and other functions relate to education. System can assist the educational decision-making to decide. Especially protect educational human and property from natural disasters destruction. References [1].
