1 Role Profile: Key Stage 2 and Whole School Subject Leader (English) Job Title/Post: Key Stage 2 Leader - Full Time post Salary: Teaching and Learning Responsibility Payment TLR 2 Responsible to: The Head teacher Responsible for: Key Stage 2 teachers and Teaching Assistants. Whole School Subject Area (English) Job Purpose: To co-ordinate and evaluate teaching and learning within Key Stage 2 and to liaise with other members of the Leadership Team where necessary, to ensure continuity and progression throughout the curriculum. To make strategic evaluations of personnel issues as a supportive and well motivated team member. The main areas of responsibility and the assigned duties are specified below. This is a senior post within the school s Leadership Group. The post holder will ensure the smooth running of the Key Stage and school and contribute to initiatives to improve/develop the school s response to Government legislation and children s services guidelines. Accountable to the Headteacher, the postholder will also have a responsibility for English across the school. Teaching and Learning Key Stage Two Area Whole School English Lead by example as a teacher and as a manager, achieving high standards of pupil attainment, behaviour and motivation through effective teaching. To be responsible to the head teacher for co-ordinating the work across your areas of responsibility, supporting and advising where appropriate. Support subject leaders in the development and implementation of curricular initiatives. To monitor the quality of teaching and learning in across your areas of responsibility, in line with the school policy. This may include lesson observations, monitoring of short and medium term planning and scrutiny of pupils work Set appropriate expectations for your areas of responsibility for staff and pupils in relation to standards of pupils achievements and the quality of teaching and establishing clear targets for improving and sustaining pupils achievement supporting the process of teaching and learning in accordance with agreed policies and guidelines. Moderating children s work in partnership with Phase Leaders Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of statutory assessment and moderation systems across the school and what different national curriculum and stepping stone levels look like in terms of pupil outcomes Working in partnership with colleagues to use national, school and class data to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching, set and monitor targets for children and teachers and raise attainment Support the Head Teacher in providing a clear vision and direction for the development of the school. Take a leading role in specific project(s) to be decided with the Head teacher. Contribute to Leadership Team decisions on all aspects of policy development and organisation by playing a significant role in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the school's development plan. Attend Leadership Team meetings as required, and report back to staff when necessary. Be a strong advocate for change and champion school improvement. Convey a positive can do attitude, motivate and inspire staff and present a united front to secure successful outcomes of school initiatives. Establish good relationships, encourage good working practices and support and lead teachers Plan, organise and chair meetings in your areas of responsibility as appropriate in order to ensure school policies and practices are being implemented. Maintaining an excellent up-to-date knowledge of children s literature Maintaining a good knowledge and understanding of the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 curriculums, and the similarities and differences between them.

Recognising and respecting the contributions that colleagues, parents/carers, and governors can make to the development and well-being of children; maintaining good relationships and communicating effectively with them Encouraging discussions about the progress, development and well-being of children and leading training development sessions and workshops for staff and parents Delivering induction on policy and practice to new staff When required, lead the professional development of all staff through example, coaching, peer support and target setting. Contribute to the audit of staff development and training needs and the provision of effective INSET. Ensure support and training during the induction of new staff in your area of responsibility and for trainee teachers. Support the establishment of priorities for expenditure across your areas of responsibility Ensure the maintenance throughout your areas of responsibility of a structured environment for effective teaching and learning, for good behaviour and discipline and for pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Manage the resources for your areas of responsibility. Identify strengths and areas for development in teaching and learning and providing effective and constructive feedback to staff which leads to improvements To lead change in Teaching and Learning across the school and to take a lead role in line with New Curriculum developments. Evidence of providing excellent provision for all pupils and achieving high standards of pupil progress An excellent understanding of and experience in using assessment data. Experience in leading one or more curriculum areas. Proven ability in leading staff teams / curriculum development and measuring progress Experience of coaching / mentoring / supporting colleagues. Experience in Safeguarding procedures including child protection. Experience in more than one school Experience of effective teamwork and leading support staff.
