3 Animals There are about 200 species of animal at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo - and so much to do you won t be able to fit it all into one day. Here are just some of the animals you might encounter
4 In With the Lemurs You can walk among the ring tailed lemurs
5 Wild Wild Whipsnade Visit some animals that once lived wild in Britain
6 Bear Brunch Find out what brown bears like to eat At peak times you can see the bears tuck into their brunch*.
7 Peckish Penguins Watch penguins on the move, in water and out At peak times you can see the penguins being fed*.
8 Giraffe Browse See for yourself just how long a giraffe s tongue is At peak times you can watch the giraffe tucking into their browse*.
9 Cheetah Rock Having admired the cheetahs grace and beauty, test your own sprinting start and find out how you compare with these cats.
10 Lions of the Serengeti Lions rest for as many as twenty one hours in a day. Will they be sleeping when you visit?
11 Hippopotamuses How wide can a hippo open its mouth? What protects a hippo s skin? Find out by visiting the common and pygmy hippos
12 Rhinos of Nepal What do rhinos smell like? Visit the amazing greater one-horned rhinos and find out!
13 Sea lion Splash Learn why keepers train the sea lions and how they do it At peak times the sea lions will demonstrate their skills*. Getting splashed is optional!
14 Birds of the World See magnificent birds fly overhead At peak times you can join the keepers and some of the birds at the Birds of the World demonstration*.
15 Elephantastic! What does an elephant s footfall sound like? How does it feel to be close to an elephant? The elephants go for a walk most afternoons so look out for them while you re in the Zoo as well as visiting their house. In the summer you might join them for the Elephantastic demonstration*!
16 Children s Farm What does a donkey s coat feel like? There are many different characters to meet on the Children s Farm... You can touch some of the animals on the Farm.
17 Discovery Centre and lots of wonderful creatures in the Discovery Centre. This is where all the reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates at the Zoo can be found.
18 Free-roaming animals Hundreds of animals live loose around the Zoo. There are peafowl mara wallabies Walk around quietly and you will see them all over the place*. They hide from noise and bustle! *They do leave poo around, so come in suitable shoes. muntjac jungle fowl Chinese water deer
19 Free-roaming animals There are sometimes babies among the free-roaming animals. It is even more important at such times that we all leave the animals in peace. A mother finds a safe place to hide her babies, who wait until she comes back. Never try to touch or get too close to them.
20 What else might you do at the Zoo?
21 Education Sessions You might take part in a special class session. Ask your teacher what you will find out about. In the class sessions there are lots of interesting biofacts to explore. Most are real and many are on loan from HM Customs.
22 Jumbo Express At peak times you might choose to ride on the Jumbo Express*. *Please book in advance. An additional charge applies.
23 Enjoy your day! To make sure that you, the animals and the other visitors have a great day at the Zoo, remember
24 Whipsnade is a big place! There is a lot of space at Whipsnade Zoo and you will walk a long way during the day. Remember to wear comfy shoes!
25 Weather Check the weather forecast before you visit and bring suitable clothing. Will you need sun cream and a hat or wellies and a raincoat?
26 Shhh! To see the animals and watch them behaving naturally, you must be very quiet and calm.
27 Feeding The animals have a carefully balanced diet. Feeding them extra food can harm them, so please don t give them your lunch!
28 Litter Litter can harm the animals, so don t just drop it. Make sure you use the bins provided, or take your litter home.
29 Enjoy your day at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo! Peak times generally refers to the period between Easter and October half term, but can vary. Please do check when you make your booking.
