6 The UCAS Tariff Came into effect in 2002 The Tariff only includes qualifications recognised as level 3 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (level 5/6 in Scotland) or equivalent. Courses at lower or higher levels are not included, apart from in exceptional circumstances UCAS does not actively market the UCAS Tariff to awarding organisations. Awarding organisations make requests for UCAS to consider the inclusion of their qualifications in the Tariff

7 The UCAS Tariff Universities and colleges in the UCAS scheme may not consider particular qualifications to be suitable for entry to their higher education courses. Any level 3 qualifications that do not help students progress to higher education will not attract points UCAS is constantly reviewing and updating the Tariff. Any qualification not currently in the Tariff, but which helps prepare students for higher education study, may be included in the future.

8 The UCAS Tariff Review In July 2010, UCAS announced the launch of the Qualifications Information (QI) Review. The Review aims to understand the ways in which learners, institutions and other stakeholders get information about qualifications, assess how effective the Tariff is as just one means of meeting their needs and to work with a wide range of stakeholders to develop and consult on improvements and alternative approaches.

19 It s not just about qualifications Personal statements and references are also important Applicants may also have to submit a portfolio/attend an interview Relevant work experience may be required GCSE requirements Non- academic conditions such as CRB, Health etc

20 Other considerations Not all Tariff bearing qualifications are accepted Not all Tariff bearing qualifications are accepted for all courses Some courses require achievement of specific subject(s) at specific grades Students are increasingly mixing and matching qualifications
