2 UNLTD SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR SUPPORTER PROGRAMME A unique opportunity for inspiring individuals to develop the skills needed by a growing social entrepreneur support sector. Social entrepreneurs are people who step up to tackle social problems with sustainable solutions. UnLtd, the foundation for social entrepreneurs, wants to see a world where more of these people can reach their potential. We believe that one of the best ways to do this is to give people the skills and knowledge they need to support social entrepreneurs to set up and thrive. Our Social Entrepreneur Supporter programme trains people from all walks of life in the skills needed to support social entrepreneurs. This is a paid opportunity. We have distilled the essential elements of the skills needed to effectively support social entrepreneurs into an 11 month programme. You ll develop your leadership skills, learn how to coach people to reach their potential and develop a knowledge of the sector through taking an active role in supporting social entrepreneurs. We re looking for talented people like you who want to develop a career in the sector. A background in the sector is not important, as long as you have a curiosity and passion for helping people do good and the can demonstrate you have the skills to succeed. Please note that this opportunity is only available in England (i.e. the work will take place in England only) due to funding. We believe in the power of individuals to change their world and want to back people so they can achieve their ambitions. a unique opportunity for INSPIRING individuals to develop the skills needed to support SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS WHAT WE ARE OFFERING A carefully crafted programme to develop great social entrepreneur supporters, based on the principle of learning by doing and informed by our own skills and competency framework. This is the second iteration of the programme and our aim is for it to become the benchmark experience for all supporters of social entrepreneurs. Social entrepreneurs have varied journeys and the programme will equip you with the skills you need to support them at different stages of their journeys. Participants will be supported and mentored by a named Award Manager throughout the programme giving them a mix of practical hands on experience and formal training.

3 WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Social entrepreneurs and those who support them come from many different cultures, backgrounds and age groups - we want to help the sector better reflect the people it seeks to serve. We encourage applications from applicants from diverse backgrounds. The sort of person we re looking for varies, but here are some of the things that we think make an ideal candidate. Individuals with an appetite for a new career challenge A strong social consciousness as demonstrated by active involvement and achievement in community action Stamina to thrive in a fast-paced learning environment Rich life experiences to share A willingness to learn and share learning A confident personality Understanding of the issues and opportunities faced by social entrepreneurs supporter at UNLTD.ORG.UK/SES-PROGRAMME The ideal applicants would be local experts, bringing rich and diverse experiences and skills to supporting social entrepreneurs. You might be a social entrepreneur who wants to develop to be able to support other people to get started; you may have a background in the sector already and want to take a step towards directly supporting social entrepreneurs; or you might come from a different sector and have a passion for supporting people to achieve social good and the background to prove it. What you will have is a rich vein of experience, knowledge of what works in your area and an initial understanding of how to do this finding and supporting role. The programme will be a mix of practical hands on experience and formal training. Through this we hope to widen the pool of applicants, widen the knowledge and skill base of the social enterprise sector and UnLtd Award Managers, bringing diversity and talent forward. Being a Social Entrepreneur Supporter has been a brilliant experience. I ve been given the opportunity to travel around the country meeting and supporting exceptional people who are doing great things to change the world in which they live. During my time with UnLtd I have learnt a great deal not only about supporting social entrepreneurs, but also about working autonomously, facilitating workshops and events, coaching Award Winners, building relationships with external partners and managing outreach across large geographies. There are many other learning opportunities that this role provides and I really feel excited for my next challenge which I hope will remain in the sector supporting individuals, ventures trying to improve society. - Louis, Social Entrepreneur Supporter

4 Working directly with social entrepreneurs has been the most inspiring and challenging experience, so far. The monthly 1:2:1 meetings with the award winners in my caseload are an endless source of learning and a continue motivation boost. Be prepared to meet incredible people, to learn from talented Award Managers and Award Winners, to hear innovative and disruptive business ideas, to discover areas of the country you could not have even imagined before, to take initiative and to coach more than advise. It will be a very privileged and fulfilling opportunity and you will never forget the hours spent with those outstanding social entrepreneurs. Take your chance! - Luisa, Social Entrepreneur Supporter WHAT TRAINING WILL BE OFFERED? Early in the programme you will gain first-hand experience of what it is like at the front line of social entrepreneurship by completing a 6 week placement working directly within a social entrepreneur led organisation. You ll get training in: Managing your work - How to manage yourself and your work. There will be opportunities to develop the skills and techniques needed to be effective in managing a complex and varied portfolio of social entrepreneurs at different stages in the development of their venture. Creativity Creativity and innovation are at the heart of social entrepreneurship you will have an opportunity to learn and take part in creative workshops. Collaboration - For UnLtd collaboration is crucial both internally between teams and externally with partners and social entrepreneurs. You will have opportunities to develop your collaborative skills and learn more about partnership working. Participants, after their initial induction, will be working alongside an Award Managers, social entrepreneurs and partner organisations. Learning from your practice How to analyse and learn through doing. A chance to boost your action research skills. How do you build simple ways of recognising and documenting significant learning from your work? Award making - How we spot and nurture social entrepreneurial talent and make Awards; including assessment of Award applicants. How we use the CRM system for recording and accounting for the decisions we make and the support we offer. There will also be the opportunity to experience and develop resourceful and creative methods for offering the right mixture of support and challenge to our emerging social entrepreneurs. Communication - Developing skills in getting your message across and learning how to create and deliver effective presentations. How to facilitate engaging workshop sessions. How to use different media and mediums to create a buzz around your work and that of our social entrepreneurs. How to deploy coaching skills. Leadership - Through the programme you will explore how you can improve your resourcefulness as leaders. You will also have opportunities to recognise and expand your range of leadership styles

5 YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED HOW MANY ROLES WILL THERE BE? We are looking for four part time Social Entrepreneur Supporters. These posts are supported by Local Trust as part of their Big Local Programme. For more information about the Big Local Programme, visit: localtrust.org.uk. HOW WILL MY PROGRESS BE MEASURED AND WILL I BE PAID? There will be a three month review and a six month probationary period. Participants will be paid above the living wage at 10,000 per annum for 17.5 hours per week during the programme (this is a part time position). Please note that the successful applicants will need to work around Wednesday as compulsory attendance. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE PROGRAMME? Our graduates could progress to become self-employed UnLtd Associates in order to gain further experience. Others will leave UnLtd to join the growing number of supporters of social entrepreneurs. WHEN WILL THE SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR SUPPORTER PROGRAMME BE ADVERTISED AND HOW CAN PEOPLE APPLY? We are recruiting during February and March Important dates Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in an assessment centre/interview on either March 29 th (London) or 30 th (Birmingham). In addition they will need to be available to visit a local community during the week of 21 st March. Successful applicants must be available to start on Monday 25 th of April (unfortunately there is no flexibility on this as there will be a crucial training residential running from 25 th 28 th April). The programme will run until the end of March 2017 (approximately 11 months duration).
