The European robotics community will lead the world in robotics by creating, designing, developing, innovating, manufacturing and distributing robotic product and services: thereby meeting many societal needs of EU citizens. 10 Goals of the Robotics PPP GOAL 3 Provide robotic products and services as key enablers for solving Europe s societal challenges In Horizon 2020, 31.7 billion will go towards addressing major concerns (societal challenges) shared by all Europeans, across six key themes: Health, demographic change and well-being; Food security, sustainable agriculture, marine and maritime research and the bio-economy; Secure, clean and efficient energy; Smart, green and integrated transport; Climate action, resource efficiency and raw materials; Inclusive, innovative and secure societies. Robotics has the capability of providing solutions in all these areas, and can make significant contributions to all of them. 11 Goals of the Robotics PPP GOAL 4 Strengthen networking activities of the European robotics community Strengthen collaboration between science and the robotics industry Overcome fragmentation within and between industrial and academic robotics communities Enable a structured dialogue between industry, R&D institutes, academia and European Commission Actively identify and address gaps between future market needs and academic research Provide a central point of contact for all relevant information such as calls, actions, potential research or cooperation partners, technology providers, job offers, service providers, 12/06/2012 Robotics 2020 PPP Info Day Page 11

12 Goals of the Robotics PPP GOAL 5 Promote European robotics ( Robotics in Europe is really good, you ought to be interested! ) Increase public awareness of robotics and what it has to offer Influence public opinion towards a positive perception and trust in robotics (robots provide benefits to the citizens) Increase attractiveness of robotics as a field of technology Maximise attractiveness of robotics as sector of employment Improve and expand education infrastructures and training programs to strengthen the European skill and knowledge base in robotics Attract key personnel from abroad Stimulate interest of private capital in European robotics variant 1: Ensure taxpayers understand that public money is well spent on robotics R&D&I and that there is a need for a joint undertaking of the public and private sides in robotics variant 2: Communicate and demonstrate the advantages of spending public money on robotics R&D&I and foster a better understanding of the PPP, i.e., the joint efforts of the public and private sides in robotics 12/06/2012 Robotics 2020 PPP Info Day Page 12
