Teacher from Spain: Maria Perez 3 rd grade Spanish side; 3 rd year with OPS

What has impressed you about your experience in OPS? A lot of opportunities to learn new things A lot of paper work Snow days (they are great) The hours working...you will be working a lot!!!!...much more than a teacher in Spain (it is worth it, though)

What advice would you give to other teachers from Spain who may come to OPS? Take it easy at the beginning Do not get stressed out with work...what you do is...great!!! What you have not done...you will do some other day.

Crestridge Magnet 361 students 72 students in the Dual Language Program Grades K 1 A grade will be added each year until the program is a K-6 program Magnet School for Global Studies

Castelar Academy 488 Students 163 Dual Language Students Grades K-6

Teacher from Spain: Ana Hernando Invest in the future Teach a child

What has impressed you about your experience in the OPS? Working in OPS is a very good experience because you have a lot of resource to use and training where you can learn different ways to teach and where you can get a lot of ideas for your classroom management. I love the Resource Room at the District Office. I would like to have more time to go there.

What advice would you give to other teachers from Spain who may come to OPS? The first months are hard here because we have a lot of directions to follow and we are not used to that. In the end, I think that it is the best way to work. My advice is that it would be better if the teachers forget about the way they teach in Spain and start as if it were the first time they were going to teach.

Marrs Dual Language Program 185 students in the Dual Language Program. The following courses are currently offered in Spanish: Reading & Language Arts Science, Grades 5, 7, and 8 Social Studies, Grades 6 and 8 Mathematics, Grade 5 Technology and Living (elective), Grades 5-8 Theatre (elective), Grade 8 The magnet themes are integrated into all Dual Language and non-dual Language courses.

Spanish Theatre Productions

Teacher from Spain: Angel Heras I started working in OPS in August, All new teachers had to do this course and at first it was very difficult for me. I realized coming to a foreign country was not easy. I had to learn a new way of teaching while I had to learn a new way of living. OPS offers you the possibility to develop your professional skills. They offer you all the resources you need and more. They have offered me the possibility to access different courses and get paid for it. This is incredible for me. My personal advice : It is not easy. If you can do it.just do it.

Teacher from Spain: Berta Gijon What has impressed you about your experience in the OPS? The way children work in centers or stations. It is a good technique for making students work and they love it.

What advice would you give to other teachers from Spain who may come to OPS? They should be open- minded because obviously everything is different and they should be ready to work hard. It is a good experience although hard. I recommend this experience to every teacher who would like to come and live here and take advantage of this awesome opportunity.
