1 SPRINGFIELD: 1025 G Street Springfield, OR EUGENE: 1464 West 6 th Avenue Eugene, OR Food Room, Eugene and Springfield VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES - Food Distribution. Springfield Hours: Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. 8:30am-1:30pm. Eugene Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30am-1:30pm. Volunteers will be interacting with customers. You must be able-bodied and enjoy working with people. Duties: Greet customers, help them shop, and stock shelves. - Restocking, Cleaning and Organizing. Tuesday and Thursday. Any hours. Volunteer should be able to move and lift heavy objects. Resource Room, Eugene and Springfield - Customer Service. Springfield Hours: Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. 8:30am-1:30pm. Eugene Hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. 8:30am-1:30am. A consistent work schedule is preferred. Volunteers should enjoy a retail-like setting, be outgoing and engaging, and work well with others. Computer skills and having the ability to file alphabetically is a must. You will help clients with locating services and supplies. If working in customer service, particularly in Eugene, volunteers must be able to deal with agitated situations in a calm manner. - Organizing, Filing, and Cleaning. (Springfield) Volunteers will organize hygiene items and create kits for clients. Miscellaneous cleaning and organizing will be a part of this opportunity. - Clothes Closet. (Springfield and Eugene) Folding, hanging, and occasional laundering of clothing in the Closet. Hours can vary depending on whether you would like client contact or not. Work during Food Room hours Springfield (W/F/Sa), Eugene (M/W/F) 9:00am-1:00pm, and help clients find items needed. For quiet hours, Tuesday and Thursday. Outreach and Development, Springfield - Events Volunteer. We host various events to further awareness of the work we do in Lane County. Volunteers can act as hosts/hostesses, greeters, and bussers. We also need help setting up, serving, and cleaning up.
2 - Special Projects Volunteer. This is an on-call commitment with a variety of potential project types. Examples may include preparing large mailings, special event planning and set-up/take-down, agency facility improvements, and more. Great people for special projects include those with flexible schedules, creative minds, and a willingness to help with agency development activities. Signing up for this role does not guarantee immediate involvement; we will call on you as needed. - Drivers. Volunteer drivers are needed to help the agency pick-up donations and run errands. This is an on-call position and requires a person with their own reliable vehicle, a safe driving record, an able-body and a flexible schedule. This volunteer role may include helping pick-up donations during donation drives (Winter Clothing Drive in January-February and the Hygiene Drive in May-June), although drivers are also needed throughout the year to run errands as needed. Signing up for this role does not guarantee immediate involvement; we will call on you as needed. - CCS Ambassador provides a personal link between CCS & a specific church, congregation or group. The Ambassador s role is to foster better communication and a stronger relationship between CCS and the designated group, which the Ambassador should be an active member of. - CCS Help & Hope Tour Host opens doors for CCS in the community by introducing new people to CCS. The Tour Host commits to bringing 10 or more people to a Help & Hope Tour annually, either by hosting a tour and filling the tour with their own guests, or by bringing 10 or more people within a year to a tour (tours held twice a month). - Great Hour of Caring Table Host helps ensure the success of our annual free fundraising breakfast, held in late September. The Table Host fills a table of 10 guests by personally inviting and then reminding them of the event the day before. Table Hosts do not have to ask for money. Accounting and Administration, Springfield - Accounting Assistant. You will perform bookkeeping and accounting duties under the supervision of the CCS Accounting Manager. You should have experience in office procedures, filing, computer use, data entry, and good interpersonal skills. - Administrative Assistant. Volunteers will perform administrative tasks in the area of human resources, data entry, and office administration, working under the supervision of the CCS Outreach Coordinator. Helpful skills and experience: office procedures, filing, computer use, data entry, good interpersonal skills. Social Services Department, Springfield - Phone Interviewer Volunteer will conduct phone interviews for our Social Services department. You must have a consistent schedule and a three month minimum commitment. (Example: ½ day per week, each week for 3 months)
3 - Administrative Assistant All Programs Volunteers will do paperwork, filing, and various clerical duties for all areas of Social Services. - Volunteer Student Intern Volunteer Student Interns work under the management of a CCS case manager. Volunteer position availability varies according to need. Men volunteers only for YFP. Please note: Volunteers should be non-judgmental about various topics and situations including mental illness, sexual assault, and addiction. See the last page for a complete description of case-managed programs and volunteer/intern opportunities. - Family Events Volunteer. Every two months, Social Services host a dinner and program for all clients and families on a Saturday or Sunday. Lunch is served. Volunteers will help in one or more of these areas: setting up, cooking, and cleaning up. Gardening, Springfield - Gardening. (Seasonal) Weed, water, and harvest. Care for produce that will be distributed in the Food Room. BOTH LOCATIONS Maintenance/Cleaning Assistant/Landscape - Volunteer will help perform maintenance and repair work as well as janitorial duties on CCS facilities and grounds. Tasks may include cleaning, painting, carpentry, landscaping, minor plumbing, and general maintenance. Energy Assistant (Seasonal) - Clerical Duties. Volunteers will schedule energy assistance appointments during the season of November through May. Phone and computer skills necessary. General Cleaning - Cleaning during all hours, but not during Food Room hours. Volunteers will clean and sanitize all areas, wash windows/sills, and more.
4 OTHER OPPORTUNITIES Quality Assurance - Records Review. (Springfield) Volunteer will review files for record accuracy in the Social Services Department. - Customer Satisfaction. (Springfield) Volunteer will solicit responses from clients regarding their opinion of our services. Professional Services/Consultants - Individual descriptions of various professional services are available. Learn how your specific pro-bono service or consultation may be applied to our mission to serve. See list of services. Mentor - This opportunity gives volunteers the opportunity to work with an individual or family as they obtain services from Catholic Community Services. You will build a relationship with a client and help them as they take positive steps to move out of poverty. (Flexible time commitment, minimum 1-2 meetings per month with client.)
5 SPRINGFIELD: 1025 G Street Springfield, OR EUGENE: 1464 West 6 th Avenue Eugene, OR SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS Volunteer and Intern Job Description Catholic Community Services currently manages four social service programs in Lane County: Family Support and Connections FSC is a supportive family project funded by the Department of Human Services (DHS). FSC is a voluntary home visiting program whose goal is to support families at high risk due to a variety of familial factors. DHS is hoping that with the assistance and support of FSC, these families can reduce the stressors in their lives and avoid outside intervention. McKenzie Rapid Rehousing This is a case managed housing program for families who have become homeless. The goal is to move homeless families and individuals into permanent housing. Case Managers work with them to decrease the issues in their lives that created the homeless situation, and help them become independent and stably housed. Young Fathers Program YFP currently offers a program designed to accomplish 2 main goals: 1. A 12 week parenting support group designed to help fathers gain the level of custody or visitation they desire, as well as offer support and education re: parenting skills. 2. A 6 week one-on-one case management support for all fathers, which will include 3 parent-child visitations/observations. Most participants in this program have been referred due to pending court cases. SPRF Strengthening, Preserving & Reunifying Families is a housing program, funded by DHS to assist families already in the child welfare system, get stably housed and thereby reunify with their children. Applicants for internship positions in Catholic Community Services Social Service programs will be interested in pursuing a career in social services or counseling. Applicants will be enrolled in classes at community college or university level, have completed relevant coursework and are actively pursuing a degree related to social service work. All applicants must pass a background check, including a DMV records check. Job Duties: (Dependent on the program) 1. Interns will become familiar with building a case file. (CCS & state forms and documentation, opening and closing a file). 2. Interns will be trained by Case Managers to document client contact through case notes. 3. Interns will shadow Case Managers on home visits to learn appropriate client/staff interaction 4. Interns will assist in pre-screening potential clients for programs. (Including other phone contacts). 5. Interns will participate with Case Managers in classes and group sessions to learn appropriate client interaction. 6. If an intern is with CCS for more than one term, they may be able to carry a caseload of their own. 7. Some level of clerical work and administrative will be involved, varying with each program. Computer literacy is a must. Results: 1. Interns will become familiar with resource and referral sources in Lane County, and will make contacts to develop relationships with those agencies. 2. Interns will gain experience in case management, one-on-one and group client interaction. (Legal and ethical client interaction, client/staff boundaries, home visiting safety, mandatory reporting.) 3. Interns will become proficient in developing case files and documentation of client contacts. (Interviewing and file documentation.)
