1 WELCOME TO HIGH SPEED WIRELESS INTERNET! Having access to broadband speeds can open a lot of doors for you on the Internet. It gives you the ability to watch streaming videos, listen to radio stations, or to download large files. Many people are trying high speed after coming from dial up and it can be a very exciting change for them. There is one thing that new customers do need to be aware of. Unlike traditional dial up models where a customer needed to watch the amount of time they were dialed up for, ADSL and Wireless packages have a limit on the amount of data their connection uses in a month. This is known as traffic and your monthly total is a combination of the amount you download as well the amount you upload (other people downloading from you or you send out for example). Check your rate plan to see how much free traffic your package provides each month. Our rate plans are available online at our website or on your contract documents. 1 GB of data is equal to roughly 18 hours of streaming MP3 music at 128 kbit/s or 100 downloaded songs. The average full length, good quality, movie will consume about 1.5 GB of traffic each. With normal usage, web surfing, and most customers will very rarely go over the amount of traffic included in our packages. Certain practices are usually the culprits for customers who do end up going over their limits. The most common of these is file sharing. File sharing has become a major part of the internet and has allowed people to access a lot of different types of media. Most of this media is unfortunately copyrighted, but that has not stopped its popularity. If you or someone in your house chooses to obtain this type of content on the internet, the important thing is to either disable or throttle your uploads, or regularly delete the contents of your file-sharing folder. This will allow for a much less traffic-intensive way to download. All downloading software has ways of limiting your uploads - contact our offices if you are unsure how to change those settings. If at any point during the month you are curious to see how much traffic you have used, please visit and click on Account Usage and Wireless. Please don t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like us to walk you through changing your settings on your computer to avoid extra bandwidth charges. We are always happy to talk to our customers. Setup 1. Open Outlook Express, Windows Mail or other mail program of your choice. 2. If you are not asked to enter a Display name, click on Tools, Accounts, Add and Mail. 3. Display name: your name or company name, so mail recipients can know who you are 4. address: username@netbistro.com 5. Type of account or server: POP3. 6. Both Incoming and Outgoing mail servers are: mail.abccomm.com 7. Account name or Username are the same as your address. 8. Only clear text authentication should be used for the incoming server, if any must be used at all. Use the default port 110, no SSL. 9. No authentication is normally used for the outgoing server, default port 25, no SSL. 10. If you have a computer that you intend to use on trips, set the outgoing server to use Port 587, using authentication.
2 ALVARION WIRELESS RADIO SETUP PROCEDURE Tools you will need: Cordless Phone (optional) Wrench or Nut driver Parts from ABC Communications that you should have: 1 Mount 1 Antenna (square panel) 1 Indoor Unit called a POE (a.k.a. the little white box) 1 White plastic cover (weather seal) 1 AC Adapter (the power cord) 1 Patch Cord (goes from little radio to your computer) 1 20 meter length of antenna cable (goes from antenna to radio) *** Note: Longer antenna cable available on request. Procedure 1. Book or confirm your appointment with your local ABC Communications office for commissioning the service. 2. Find a good location where you have a clear line of sight to the Access Point, with no trees or other obstacles in the way. This is where the CPE antenna mounting hardware and Antenna should be installed. 3. (If needed) Install the mounting arm firmly to the mounting surface on the outside of the house. 4. On the assembled unit, there is a white flat panel. This is the front of the antenna where the radio waves are emitted. This panel must be installed facing the Access Point with the rubber sealing boots pointing at a downwards angle (To the left looking at the unit from the front, to the right looking at the unit from the back). It is recommended not to stand in front of the unit when it is turned on. 5. Once the antenna cable is run to somewhere inside your house, connect the cable to the jack on the CPE Indoor Unit labelled Radio. Avoid connecting power to the CPE yet. Caution: Incorrect connections to indoor unit could damage your computer! 6. Aim the front of the antenna towards the wireless transmitter for your area. 7. Make sure all connections are tight. Plug the CPE indoor unit into a power source. Have a crescent wrench or nut driver handy. 8. After approximately 60 seconds, the unit will have completed its boot cycle, and try and attain a connection to the mountain transmitter. The Wireless LED on the CPE indoor unit will be lit solid when it has made its link. 9. If no lights appear on the CPE indoor unit, check the following: a) The Power light on the Indoor unit and the Antenna are on. b) Make sure all connections are made: c) The cable on the bottom of the antenna is connected. d) The cable from the antenna is connected to the Radio jack on the Indoor unit. e) The power plug on the Indoor unit is connected to a surge power bar. f) The AC power cord is securely plugged into the source of power Surge protection for the radio is MANDATORY! 10. Once the system has been powered up contact your local ABC Communications office to commission your service at your scheduled appointment window. 11. The wireless technician will log into the radio and check the signal levels to make sure they are adequate for highspeed internet, and maximum reliability (This is where a cordless phone comes in handy). We may ask you to make some fine adjustments to the Antenna - up, down, left, or right, to obtain maximum signal level. 12. For permanent installations a final connection must be made (with the supplied patch cable) between the Indoor CPE Ethernet jack and your computer or router. (Please refer to Appendix 1)
3 MOTOROLA WIRELESS RADIO SETUP PROCEDURE Tools you will need: Cordless Phone (optional) Wrench or Nut driver Parts from ABC Communications that you should have: 1 Mount 1 Antenna 1 Outdoor transmitter (Radio) 4 Tie-Wrap straps 1 Roll of weather-proof sealant 1 AC Power Adapter with network connector 1 20 meter length of radio transmitter cable (goes from Radio to AC Power adapter) *** Note: Longer antenna cable available on request. Procedure 1. Book or confirm your appointment with your local ABC Communications office for commissioning the service. 2. Find a good location where you have a clear line of sight to the Access Point, with no trees or other obstacles in the way - attach the mounting arm once you have found a good place. 3. Run the provided cable to the mount arm from a good location inside your house. Be careful to avoid putting any kinks in the cable. 4. Attach the antenna, and radio to the mount arm. Use the provided tie-wraps to attach the radio with the cable and holes pointing down. 5. The antenna and radio each have a wire pigtail with a metal connector on the end. These connectors screw together. Be careful to not cross-thread the connectors, as this will cause unwanted problems with the service, and possibly no connection to our transmitter. Caution: Incorrect connections to indoor unit could damage your computer! 6. Aim the front of the antenna as best you can towards the wireless transmitter for your area. 7. Make sure all connections are tight then plug the AC Power adapter into power surge bar. Surge protection for the radio is MANDATORY! 8. The radio will begin its Start Up sequence and then try and connect to our transmitter. This sequence should take about 1 minute. It is recommended not to stand in front of the unit when it is turned on. 9. Have your crescent wrench or nut-driver handy, and phone ABC Communications. 10. Once the system has been powered up contact your local ABC Communications office to commission your service at your scheduled appointment window. This is where a cordless phone comes in handy - We may ask you to make some fine adjustments to the Antenna (up, down, left, or right) to obtain maximum signal quality. 11. When all these steps are completed, and we have completed our inspection of the wireless link use the included roll of black sealant provided and wrap the metal antenna connector from the top downwards. This is best done by wrapping it in a spiralling motion (Please refer to Appendix 2). If done properly, there will be no signs of the metal showing through. Failure to do this step could result in a failure of service, or degradation of performance. Any resulting service calls would be billed on an hourly basis. If you have any questions about this procedure, please do not hesitate to ask!
4 TRANZEO WIRELESS RADIO SETUP PROCEDURE Tools you will need: Cordless Phone (optional) Wrench or Nut driver Parts from ABC Communications that you should have: 1 Mount 1 Antenna (square panel) 1 Indoor Unit called a POE (a.k.a. the little white box) 1 White plastic cover (weather seal) 1 AC Adapter (the power cord) 1 Patch Cord (goes from little radio to your computer) 1 20 meter length of antenna cable (goes from antenna to radio) *** Note: Longer antenna cable available on request. Procedure 1. Book or confirm your appointment with your local ABC Communications office for commissioning the service. 2. Find a good location where you have a clear line of sight to the Access Point, with no trees or other obstacles in the way. 3. You will notice on the assembled unit that there is a large white flat panel. This is the front of the antenna where the radio waves are emitted. It is recommended not to stand in front of the unit when it is turned on. 4. There is a cable that comes out of the antenna through a white plastic cover. The other end of the cable plugs into the jack on the Indoor Unit labeled CPE. Avoid connecting power to the CPE yet. Caution: Incorrect connections to indoor unit could damage your computer! 5. Aim the front of the antenna towards the wireless transmitter for your area. 6. Make sure all connections are tight. Plug the CPE indoor unit into a power source. Have a crescent wrench or nut driver handy. 7. On the back of the antenna you will see 3 sets of lights labeled Radio, LAN and Power. 8. If you do not see any lights come on in about 5 seconds, check the following: a. The Power light on the Indoor Unit is on. b. All connections are secure. The cable on the back of the antenna is connected. The cable from the antenna is connected to the CPE jack on the Indoor unit. c. The power plug on the Indoor unit is connected to a surge power bar d. The AC adapter is securely plugged into the source of power Surge protection for the radio is MANDATORY! 9. Once the CPE indoor unit has booted, the Antenna Power light should stay on and the Radio signal lights may be lit. If the Radio lights do not come on (but the power light is on), slowly turn the antenna side-to-side trying to gain signal from the Access Point. You will know that you have a signal when the Radio signal lights are lit. 10. If this doesn t work; slightly loosen off the nut that is on the bracket for the antenna, keeping one hand on the antenna while you loosen the nut. Now you should be able to easily tilt the antenna up without too much force. If done properly the antenna should tilt freely up and down. Then tighten in the new position. 11. Now try and obtain a signal once again. When a signal is reached you will see the Radio signal lights, light up. Now keep the antenna in that exact spot, not losing the signal. Then, tighten the nut on the bracket on the back of the antenna. 12. Once the system has been powered up contact your local ABC Communications office to commission your service at your scheduled appointment window. (This is where a cordless phone comes in handy). We may ask you to make some fine adjustments to the Antenna up, down, left, or right, to obtain maximum signal level. (Please refer to Appendix 1)

You will see the MAC address in the WAN or Internet section, in the format: 00-0C-6E E5. 4. Make a note of that and inform your local ABC office of that number. Ask for a wireless technician when calling in. 5. Once that is registered you will be able to open your browser and web pages will display directly. Troubleshooting Your Connection BEFORE You Call 1. Restart your computer. 2. Check the POE to see if it is plugged in and a light is on. 3. Check the router to see if the lights are normal. The wire coming from the PC side of your POE should plug to the WAN or Internet port on your router. 4. To reset the Wireless Radio: unplug the power supply from the POE for 20 seconds then plug it back in. The power supply is the black cable that plugs into your POE & wall power outlet. Wait for 1 minute to see if your system comes back up by checking the computer to see if the wireless is back on line by accessing 5. If you have a router, please unplug it, wait 20 seconds then plug it back in. Your wireless radio and computer should be back up and you can go to a web page. Try as we know this page is always available and the one you may have been trying may be down. 6. If you still have not been reconnected to the Internet then please call our technical support department. We offer support 24 hours a day 7 days a week. In the event of larger outages our monitoring team will resolve the issue as soon as possible. If you experience intermittent interference with your wireless connection it may be caused by a 2.4GHz device such as; wireless routers, baby monitors, cordless telephones, cell phones, microwave ovens, and other wireless devices in your house. If any of these devices are close to your wireless radio or router, you may want to move the device as far away as possible or change the operating channel. We have had reports of the wireless connection being disrupted when these devices are in use close to our 2.4 GHz equipment.
