1 LOVELAND HIGH SCHOOL INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE October 20, 2016 Hello Prospective LHS IB cohort member and parents, We welcome your interest in participating in the inquiry-based academic IB programmes at Loveland High School. The Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma Programmes (DP) are perfect for motivated students who want more out of their education than just good grades. The International Baccalaureate Programme is a prestigious international set of programmes designed for the inquisitive, motivated and well-rounded student. The MYP and DP are exciting programs of study that encourage students to be reflective, critical, and creative thinkers. The IB programmes provide students with a high-quality education that prepares them for life in the 21st century. We encourage you to learn more about the IB programmes on our school website: Due to the high level of interest, all students who live outside the LHS attendance zone or did not attend Lucile Erwin Middle School*, need to complete the LHS IB open enrollment application process. This process has the following steps: 1. Complete the student information section and respond to the questions on pages 2-3. The student should handwrite his or her responses and work on this independently. 2. Have a current or recent teacher complete the reference form and send it directly to LHS. Be sure to provide the teacher with a stamped, addressed envelope. Students living outside the Loveland High School attendance zone must also complete the following: 3. Complete the LHS IB Agreement to Participate form. This is an agreement that if accepted into the LHS IB Programme, you will remain committed to participating in the programme throughout your 4-year high school career. Should you, at any point, decide to withdraw completely from the IB Programme, you would need to return to your home high school. 4. Complete the TSD Open Enrollment Application. Please indicate on this form that you are interested in participating in the IB programme (there is no designated space to do so). 5. After submitting the above materials, schedule a brief phone interview with the LHS IB Coordinator, John Parks, at or john.parks@thompsonschools.org Please return these materials to the LHS Administrative Secretary, Shawn Muscott, or scan and them to the IB Coordinator, John Parks by Wednesday, December 21, 2016 (end of Fall Semester). All the best, John M. Parks IB Coordinator Loveland High School *LEMS is a full-school IB MYP school, and the primary feeder school to LHS. Since students from LEMS continue in the IB Progamme, they do not need to complete this process, unless they live outside the LHS attendance zone. Those LEMS students who do live in the LHS attendance zone intending to continue in IB must complete the MYP registration in January-February and register for MYP classes. 1

Students must have an established strong scholastic background. Successful IB students are independent thinkers, self-motivated, and regularly engage in critical reflection. They should be strong writers and speakers who take initiative in their learning. 5 Part 3: MYP & DP Agreement to Participate Form* The International Baccalaureate Programme is a prestigious international set of programmes designed for the inquisitive, motivated and well-rounded student. We believe the IB programmes provide students with a high-quality education that prepares them for life in the 21st century. We encourage you to learn more about the IB programmes on our school website: The IB MYP is open to LHS students in the 9th and 10th grades. By becoming an IB MYP student, you agree to: enroll in and complete MYP cohort classes in the 9th and 10th grades. complete a 15-hour community project your freshman year. complete the 60-hour personal project your sophomore year. The IB DP is open to LHS students in the 11th and 12th grades. Students participating in the full DP work toward completing the following in order to earn an IB Diploma in addition to the LHS diploma: enroll and test in 6 IB DP classes from the 6 different subject areas, as well as the Theory of Knowledge course Work towards completing the DP Core: Theory of Knowledge (ToK) Course during spring semester junior year and fall semester senior year Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS): participate in and reflect upon a variety of experiences complete an Extended Essay research paper on a topic of the student s choice. Students who live outside the attendance zone of LHS and who are accepted into the IB programme through the open enrollment process also agree to continue to study within the IB Programme throughout their high school career at LHS (MYP courses and projects & at a minimum two DP courses per year and the DP Core).* Should you, at any point, decide to withdraw completely from the IB Programme, you would need to return to your home high school.
