2 2 E-government Management of international projects To exploit these expanding opportunities, students must know not only technology but also the business and environment in which they will work. Typical job objectives are advancement in current job, business analyst, CIO, consulting, electronic commerce specialist, e-government specialist, entrepreneur, first or middle IS management, integration designer, internal consultant, IT liaison, management consultant, manager of international projects, outsourcer/systems integrator, regional information officer (RIO), systems analyst/designer, and technical specialist. Description of the BIST program The BIST program consists of three tracks IS core consisting of 15 units (45 ECTS points) The IS core block defines the minimal knowledge required of all BIST students. The core differentiates the BIST program from both computer science programs and IS concentration within the MBA programs. Integration consisting of 3 units (9 ECTS points) The integration block addresses the needs of international organizations, institutions and corporations to integrate disparate internal systems and to communicate with external and international parties. Career tracks consisting of 12 units (36 ECTS points) The careers track blocks consists of elective courses organized around careers such as electronic commerce, manager of international projects, or management consulting. Additionally, each student prepares a Master Thesis (30 ECTS points) Prerequisites of the program The following blocks of courses are considered to be the kernel competencies required from students enrolling the BIST program IS Foundations with courses in Fundamentals of Information Systems, Information Technology Hardware and Software, Programming, Data and Object Structures Foundations based on courses on Financial Accounting, Marketing, Organizational Behavior Students with inadequate backgrounds in these areas are required to take additional courses and will, therefore, require additional units to complete their degrees. Planned extension of the program to PhD program After the program... 2 BIST Program 2.1 Integration of the Program into International Curricula The program is based on the IEEE curriculum for the Graduate Degree Programm in Information Systems (MSIS 2000). 2.2 Entry Conditions The student has a bachelor or equivalent degree within one of the following three programs Bachelor in Computer Science (CC2004 curriculum of the ACM, AIS, and IEEE-CS) and Minor in Science or Bachelor in Information Systems (IS2002 curriculum of the ACM, AIS, and AITP) or Bachelor in Science and Minor in Computer Science (In this case the student must complete a number in courses which are in the Bachelor Program for Computer Science and are not yet completed within the profile. Furthermore, an entry examination is required before starting the program. Depending on the results of the entry examination the student is obliged to complete other requirements.)

3 In all other cases the study program management committee is obliged to define requirements for the participation. Requirements are based on the kernel competencies in the areas of IS foundations and business foundations. Students may be requested to complete all courses within these kernel competencies within the first year of enrollment. Requirements are limited to 30 ECTS points Teaching Language All lectures will be given in English. 2.4 Course Schedule and Staffing The program is scheduled for 4 terms. 2.5 Curriculum Building Blocks Catalog of Courses Courses to be given within the program are grouped into the following main parts Data Engineering consisting of courses Advanced database design Advanced applications (OLAP, Warehousing) Content Retrieval and Mining Workflow engineering Database Technology and Programming Knowledge-Oriented Systems consisting of courses Knowledge Engineering, Artificial Intelligence Knowledge-Oriented Process Chains Dependable Systems and Error Management CRM...
