4 SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services From strength to strength, SQL Server 2012 (formerly Code Name Denali ) will deliver the fifth release of Analysis Services New features and enhancements are based on: A vision to expand data model development to a broader user base Embracing the tabular data model, as introduced in SQL Server 2008 R2 with PowerPivot Unifying tabular and multidimensional models under a single platform the BI Semantic Model 5

9 Introducing Power View Continued A Power View report must be based on a deployed tabular BI Semantic Model PowerPivot workbook in a SharePoint library Tabular model hosted on a tabular instance of Analysis Services DAX Queries are used to query the model Ordinarily, the model needs to be optimized for the Power View experience 10

11 Exploring PowerPivot 2012 PowerPivot empowers end users to create self-service BI solutions in Excel 2010 Facilitates the sharing and collaboration of PowerPivot solutions in SharePoint Server 2010 These capabilities are achieved by two add-ins: SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel Add-in SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint Add-in The Excel add-in is available for download from Microsoft at no cost New modeling and designer features, and new DAX functions that build upon the SQL Server 2008 R2 offering will be available in the next release 12
