January 30 & February 2 Counselor explains registration process to students via AB teacher in KIT MPR February 19 through 25 - Collect registration contract via students AB teacher, sign up for summer-school for health & geography English Placement Test: March 3 at 2:45 pm in the KIT MPR/ Makeup Test is April 8 during school hours in the KIT Library

7 Automatic Honors English Placement Students automatically qualify for Honors English 9 if they have a 3.5 GPA or higher, have an A in English Language Arts class, and with AB Teacher Recommendation. Students that automatically qualify just need to inform the counselor at the time of registration they wish to be placed into the Honors English 9 class.

11 Step 3: Summer School Be very sure of your summer school plans before making course selections SS is primarily for remediation or making up deficiencies for graduation SS can also be taken for core/original credit this year is Independent Study only, and must have impacted schedule as defined by AVID, Band, Colorguard, Orchestra, Choir, Leadership, Peer Counseling, Folklorico, Yearbook MOST IMPORTANT: When you register, plan on successfully completing the coursework because there is no guarantee there will be room in the fall to take the courses

12 Understanding Grades and Credits You must earn a minimum of C grade in all academic courses P means college prep - to be eligible for college You will earn 5 credits per semester for each course, totaling 10 per course, per year That means each year potentially earns your child 60 credits Multiply by 4 = 240 credits The requirement is 230 credits to graduate from CW.

23 Math Placement Test In order to ensure academic success in high school mathematics, students will be given a math placement exam during the spring semester for placement into Math 2 and Math 2 Honors at CWHS. Additional measures could be considered including performance data and teacher recommendation. 24 Reasons to Pursue Honors courses 3. CW has documented better work habits and ability to sustain rigor during high school when students start with English 9 Honors Freshman students taking English 9 Honors develop these important skills which transfer to other higher level subjects later on. AP is the Varsity team in academics Our freshmen develop the foundational freshman and JV skills in Eng 9 Honors and Eng 10 Honors.

25 Honor English 9 Summer Homework One short novel to read this summer Of Mice and Men and a short selection of expository works. Students will be required to complete a selfexploratory writing assignment over the summer. Students will demonstrate they ve read the summer material by completing HW/tests/quizzes upon their return to school in the fall. We strongly encourage high achieving English students to pursue a more challenging academic route to prepare for the more competitive college requirements.
