Taking the RISKS out of your next Hot Job!
HOW TO USE THE FUNKY BAG 1. Mark the location on your switchgear where you want to drill. 2. Open up switchgear "CAUTION - MAY BE LIVE or HOT". 3. Simply attach "THE FUNKY BAG" to the bottom side of the location where you are drilling. (e.g., switchgear, electronic equipment, transformer, etc.) 4. When the tool is secure - simply slide into proper location, so that the tool is centered on your mark. 5. Drill your hole using a unibit or small hole saw (½ or ¾ ). 6. Punch out the desired hole using a hole punch. Warning! Always wear gloves when working in live or hot switchgear Make sure the tool is properly attached to conductive surface before using. Make sure tool is in proper location before using. Do not use with cutting oils. Make sure the tool is kept in a dry place at all times. Make sure tool is dry before using. Should any of the components break - DO NOT USE TOOL. Do not use tool if damaged (e.g., leather is torn or plastic broken). THE FUNKY BAG - ENDORSEMENTS Local chapter of the IBEW, Local 441, Orange County, implements "THE FUNKY BAG" into its SAFETY training classes. Local chapter of the IBEW, Local 11, Los Angeles County, implements "THE FUNKY BAG" into its SAFETY training classes. TESTIMONIALS "Definitely a tool that makes my job a lot safer. The tool is awesome and gives me peace of mind when I'm working in live switchgear." - Larry B. Irwin, Electrical Foreman, Los Angeles, CA. "thefunkybag is one giant step in creating a totally safe environment for the electrical work force." -Michael Schoomaker, A-Plus Electrical Supplies, Schenectady, NY. "About time someone came up with a tool to make this type of work safer!" - Kurt James, Electrical Distributor, Rancho Cucamonga, CA.
FEATURES & BENEFITS OF THE FUNKY BAG There are several KEY Features that have been built into THE FUNKY BAG. The unique design and performance guarantees electricians and other personnel the ultimate SAFETY that they desire. This one of a kind Electrical Safety Drilling Tool is hence so unique to the industry that every electrician MUST have this tool. The Safety Engineers and Teaching Personnel have supported THE FUNKY BAG and have implemented its use in the local IBEW Training Centers in CA; we are presently working with the curriculum directors of the National IBEW (NAJTC) so as to implement THE FUNKY BAG into every classroom where SAFETY is being taught. Other national training companies are implementing THE FUNKY BAG into their curriculums as well. FEATURES: Resin Based Multi-Pole Magnetic Strips on the Face of THE FUNKY BAG. The magnets on the face of THE FUNKY BAG are resin based to ensure longevity and durability. Conventional or hard magnets are very brittle and will crack and chip when dropped, loosing magnetic strength and rendering the tool useless. The resin magnets cannot break, chip or crack. They will always retain their magnetic strength despite abuse. You can drill through the magnetic strips and no damage occurs, leaving THE FUNKY BAG 100% useful and as authentic as NEW. Durable One-Piece Construction of the Upper Frame. The upper frame of THE FUNKY BAG is constructed of a one piece injected plastic mold. The tolerances of the frame are designed to be able to withstand falls from over 15 high without cracking. Powerful Inner Magnets Quickly Collects ALL Metal Shavings. The magnets inside THE FUNKY BAG are so designed to create a vacuum inside the bag to literally suck in the metal debris while drilling. The inner magnet has a rating of 80 lbs and will hold a unibit or small hole saw safely within the pouch - even if dropped. Outer Bag Constructed of Genuine Leather. Electricians like leather. Leather offers longevity and durability to THE FUNKY BAG. Canvases and other materials will tear or separate. Leather, if torn, can easily be mended and still maintain all of its characteristics. The leather also allows THE FUNKY BAG to get into those tight situations while still performing to its peak performance. Non-Conductive Anti-Static Disposable Liners. Plastics are plastics, Right? Wrong. The anti-static liner offers us universal compatibility within all types of work. Government contracts demand anti-static plastics on ALL contract work. The true sign of anti-static material is seen in the PINK liners. The liners are so designed so that they securely fit in place to optimize your protection. Magnetic Energy Displaced in Key Areas. The energy of the magnets on top of THE FUNKY BAG is directed towards the top. There is no magnetic energy released to the inside of the bag by these magnets. The bottom magnet with its increased pull sucks ALL debris to the bottom of the bag. The bottom magnet is also shielded to prevent ANY magnetic energy to be released through the bottom of the tool, hence making it completely safe for your computer equipment and PLCs. Size of the THE FUNKY BAG 104. The dimensions of the 104 are app X 5. This unique size allows you the versatility of getting into tight corners and being able to fit in between existing conduits in the switchgear. The tool easily compresses to app. 2 and still performs at its peak. The 104 was seen as the perfect size for this reason and the most desired. Plans for a smaller size and larger size are presently being pursued.
Conforms to OSHA & NFPA Standards. THE FUNKY BAG was designed around the OSHA & NFPA guidelines and standards. To engineer a tool to meet these specific standards and guidelines is a job in itself. THE FUNKY BAG has done both. Present forms of protection like cardboard and draping rubber over live switchgear does not meet the OSHA requirements. Always Totally Non-Conductive. The goal behind THE FUNKY BAG was to create the SAFEST method possible to work in HOT switchgear. THE FUNKY BAG, even with metal debris and a unibit in it, still remains totally non-conductive, should it FALL into your switchgear. The inner magnet cannot fall through the opening on the top of the tool; hence your debris is always set back from the face of THE FUNKY BAG even it falls. Work SAFE & SMART. THE FUNKY BAG not only creates the SAFEST method in the industry, it also saves you time and $$$. Set-up time is reduced to seconds, rather than minutes. The metal debris is always insulted from live switchgear and electronic components. The need to have material (cardboard, mats, etc) in touch with your live gear and buss is eliminated. No clean-up is ever required; simply dispose liner in trash with the debris. THANKS AGAIN FOR CHOOSING THE FUNKY BAG FOR YOUR SAFETY
INFORMATION ABOUT THE FUNKY BAG "THE FUNKY BAG" complies with OSHA standards & NFPA guidelines (a) "General" Safety-related work practices shall be employed to prevent electric shock or other injuries resulting from either direct or indirect electrical contacts, when work is performed near or on equipment or circuits which are or may be energized. The specific safety-related work practices shall be consistent with the nature and extent of the associated electrical hazards (a)(1) "Deenergized Parts" Live parts to which an employee may be exposed shall be deenergized before the employee works on or near them, unless the employer can demonstrate that deenergizing introduces additional or increased hazards or is infeasible due to equipment design or operational limitations. Live parts that operate at less than 50 volts to ground need not be deenergized if there will be no increased exposure to electrical burns or to explosion due to electric arcs. Note 1: Examples of increased or additional hazards include interruption of life support equipment,
deactivation of emergency alarm systems, shutdown of hazardous location ventilation equipment, or removal of illumination for an area. Note 2: Examples of work that may be performed on or near energized circuit parts because of infeasibility due to equipment design or operational limitations include testing of electric circuits that can only be performed with the circuit energized and work on circuits that form an integral part of a continuous industrial process in a chemical plant that would otherwise need to be completely shut down in order to permit work on one circuit or piece of equipment. Note 3: Work on or near deenergized parts is covered by paragraph (b) of this section (a)(2) (a)(2) "Energized Parts" If the exposed live parts are not deenergized (i.e., for reasons of increased or additional hazards or infeasibility), other safety-related work practices shall be used to protect employees who may be exposed to the electrical hazards involved. Such work practices shall protect employees against contact with energized circuit parts directly with any part of their body or indirectly through some other conductive object. The work practices that are used shall be suitable for the conditions under which the work is to be performed and for the voltage level of the exposed electric conductors or circuit parts. Specific work practice requirements are detailed in paragraph (c) of this section (a) Use of protective equipment (a)(1) Personal protective equipment (a)(1)(i) Employees working in areas where there are potential electrical hazards shall be provided with, and shall use, electrical protective equipment that is appropriate for the specific parts of the body to be protected and for the work to be performed. Note: Personal protective equipment requirements are contained in subpart I of this part (a)(1)(ii) Protective equipment shall be maintained in a safe, reliable condition and shall be periodically inspected or tested, as required by (a)(1)(iii) If the insulating capability of protective equipment may be subject to damage during use, the insulating material shall be protected. (For example, an outer covering of leather is sometimes used for the protection of rubber insulating material.) (a)(1)(iv) Employees shall wear nonconductive head protection wherever there is a danger of head injury from electric shock or burns due to contact with exposed energized parts (a)(1)(v) (a)(1)(v) Employees shall wear protective equipment for the eyes or face wherever there is danger of injury to the eyes or face from electric arcs or flashes or from flying objects resulting from electrical explosion (a)(2) General protective equipment and tools (a)(2)(i) When working near exposed energized conductors or circuit parts, each employee shall use insulated tools or handling equipment if the tools or handling equipment might make contact with such conductors or parts. If the insulating capability of insulated tools or handling equipment is subject to damage, the insulating material shall be protected (a)(2)(i)(A) Fuse handling equipment, insulated for the circuit voltage, shall be used to remove or install fuses when the fuse terminals are energized (a)(2)(i)(B) Ropes and hand lines used near exposed energized parts shall be nonconductive (a)(2)(ii) Protective shields, protective barriers, or insulating materials shall be used to protect each employee from shock, burns, or other electrically related injuries while that employee is working near exposed energized parts which might be accidentally contacted or where dangerous electric heating or arcing might occur.
When normally enclosed live parts are exposed for maintenance or repair, they shall be guarded to protect unqualified persons from contact with the live parts.
