8 The SME instrument the coaching Objectives: Enhance the commercial potential and impact of SME participation in the dedicated H2020 instrument Achieve tangible organizational change Leave a legacy, H2020 to become the stepping stone to sustainable high growth Enterprise Europe Network acting as entry point to the system (Key account managers) To be delivered across the first 2 phases of the instrument Coaching plan Address specific project barriers/gaps Face to face meetings (15 days) Closing report/support with Business Plan Liaise with Enterprise Europe Network Key Account Manager (EEN as facilitator throughout the process) Coaching provided through a European pool of coaches Key skills: Innovation management Coaching of senior company staff Familiar with SME instrument project field Relevant professional contacts

Evaluation Remote evaluation throughout the process Abandon consensus meetings Long feedback loops (ESRs) slow down the process Evaluation criteria Excellence in innovation, commercialisation potential, Economic impact and the Company s potential achieving the envisaged results (management). The profile and competences of evaluators is highly important Evaluators not competent for all evaluation criteria to the same extent Expertise will be complementary Impact on logistics of the evaluation process Selection must be well targeted

15 Eurostars 2 Key features Foreseen Funding 3 x higher than Eurostars 1 Indicative contribution from Eurostars 2 participating countries= 861m Indicative EU contribution = ~ 287m (25% of the overall public funding) Total public budget increase from 400m (Eurostars 1) to almost 1.2bn Expected Improvements of Eurostars 2 : Quicker progress towards more scientific, management and financial integration, including a better synchronisation of funding. Efficiency and transparency of the evaluation process Shorter time to contract Respect of the Eurostars rules by all participating countries Increased Focus on SMEs with no previous international research experience
