Information regarding the research topics will be published on the following web page: Participation in this competition does not prevent candidates from participating in the competition by exam. Art. 2 Prerequisites to access the courses The competition is open to all candidates who have an international academic qualification recognised in Italy as equivalent to the Laurea Vecchio ordinamento, Laurea specialistica (D.M. 509/99) or Laurea Magistrale (D.M. 207/04). International academic qualifications will be firstly evaluated by the doctorate coordinators in order to determine the academic suitability for admission to the doctorate. Candidates can be excluded from the selection process at any stage should they fail to comply with the

2 above prerequisites. Art. 3 Selection Application Form Only online applications are accepted, using the electronic application system hosted by: Applications must be completed by September 28 th 202, any applications registered after this date will not be accepted. Instructions for completing the online application form are available on the following page: PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ONLY ONLINE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED Online Application forms must be completed accurately and must include: a) applicant s personal details (name; surname; date and place of birth, permanent address, address) b) Nationality/Citizenship c) Academic qualification award details, Title, date of award, awarding institution. The following documents must be attached/uploaded in the online application procedure:. Certificate or transcript containing full academic record of the candidate s career, including marks from all years. For this purpose it is necessary to attach a transcript containing full academic record of the candidate s career, including marks from all years, accompanied by a translation in Italian or English; the translation can be self-certified. In case of admission to the doctorate candidates must present, by 5 th April 203, a copy of the certificate and final transcript with a certified legalised translation in Italian and Statement of comparability evaluation as according to Art. below. 2. Art. 4 Evaluation of Academic Qualifications According to Art. 3 of the Regulation of Research Doctorates of the University of Ferrara, a specific commission for each school will evaluate the candidates based on the academic qualifications presented and on an interview. The commission will evaluate the candidate s application with a maximum of 60 points and the interview with a further 60 points. Candidates can be admitted to the interview with a minimum of 40/60. Applicants scoring at least 40 points will be admitted to an interview by videoconference via Skype or similar tools (using webcam). For this purpose, candidates must provide us with their own registered contact/name while preparing the application, and guarantee the use of a webcam during the interview. Candidates admitted to the second part of the selection process will be contacted by with the date and time for their interview. All interviews will be held by the end of October. Successful candidates will be required to achieve a minimum of 80/20 points. Art. 5 Ranking list By November 5 th 202, upon approval of the minutes of the proceedings of the evaluation process, the admission ranking lists to the Doctorate courses mentioned in this announcement will be published at the Post Graduate Office and on the University website: Publication of the ranking list will be the only official means of communication of results, therefore PERSONAL COMMUNICATION WILL NOT BE SENT TO SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES. Admitted candidates, with and without a grant, will not receive any personal communication: the only communication for the competition results will be the publication of the ranking list at Ufficio Dottorato di Ricerca and on the office website, using the following link: 2

3 Art. 6 Admission to the Courses Candidates will be admitted to the course according to the order of the respective ranking list, until the number of places included in the competition announcement is filled. In the case of equal marks, the youngest candidate will prevail. In case of non take-up before the beginning of the course, the same number of candidates will sub-enter according to the order of the ranking list. Qualified candidates holding a scholarship from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or from institutions of their own country will benefit from extra-quota positions. Documents regarding the above mentioned fellowships have to be sent to Ufficio Dottorato by 7th December 202 Art. 7 Enrolment in the Courses Admitted candidates must enrol online using their personal page on the webpage: by 7 th December 202 following the instructions available at the following address: Enrolment on courses implies the payment of the first instalment of the tuition fees as stated in the following art. of this announcement. Enrolment in courses will be confirmed only when all the documents listed below have been submitted to Ufficio Dottorato di Ricerca, and in any case before 5 th April Copy of the certificate of the foreign degree with legalised translation, and Statement of comparability evaluation - Copy of the permit of stay; - A passport photo of the candidate. - (Only for grant holders) Personal data and fiscal form; - (Only for grant holders) Registration with the National Social Security System (INPS) (for fiscal purposes) In cases where the necessary documentation should arrive after the deadline or the qualifications declared should result invalid, the student must send a written obligation to return any grant installments already received and forfeit the doctorate qualification. Art. 8 Documents in Foreign Languages According to the Ministerial orders for admission of foreign students (Newsletter of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research MIUR protocol number 29 of 6/05/2008, available on the website the documents certifying the academic qualification written in a language that is not Italian, must be accompanied by an official, legalised translation in Italian and by the Dichiarazione di Valore in loco (statement of comparability evaluation). The translation must be organised by the candidate who can refer, if in Italy, to the local Tribunal and/or local translators, and the translation itself must be counter-signed by the Italian Authorities competent in the territory. 3

4 The legalisation of the degree certificate (official certification of the legal authenticity of the person signing the document) must be carried out by the competent Country Authorities who have issued it. For countries who have joined the Ajax Convention of , the legalisation can be substituted by the stamp Apostille that can only be issued by the competent Local Authorities. The Dichiarazione di Valore in loco Statement of comparability evaluation can only be carried out by the Italian Diplomatic representatives in the country in which the title has been awarded. This must state that the title possessed would be valid for admission in loco to an academic course comparable to the Research Doctorate. Art. 9 Replacements The list of those admitted to the course due to vacant places will be published by 3 th December 202 at the Ufficio Dottorato di Ricerca and on the website: Newly admitted candidates will have to enrol by 7 th January 203, using the online enrolment system mentioned in the article above. Personal communications will NOT be sent. Art. 0 Grants The grants mentioned in Art. of this announcement will be assigned according to the order defined in the relative ranking lists. The annual contribution of the grant scholarship amount is 3, and is subject to the National Social Security contributions. The duration of the grant is that of the duration of the course. The deadline for grant payments is the end of every two months. The amount of the grant is increased by 50% for any possible periods of stay abroad. The grant cannot be used in conjunction with any other kind of grants except for those provided by national or foreign institutes aimed at integrating research activities with a period abroad. Anyone who has already benefited from a grant for a Doctorate course even for just one year cannot apply for another. Candidates who benefit from grants from the Italian Government or from their own Government cannot benefit from the grants awarded by the University. Art. Enrolment Fees Students benefiting from the grants mentioned in this announcement are subject to the annual payment of stamp duty ( 4,62) and insurance contribution ( 2,00). Students who, according to Art. of this announcement, are admitted to the Doctorate courses without a grant must pay the fee established by the University of Ferrara for the Doctoral courses. Doctorate students must therefore pay the amount indicated in the table below. Art. 2 IUSS Ferrara 39 - Accomodation Students enrolled in Research Doctorate courses will be offered the opportunity of residency in Ferrara, in the form of reduced-cost accommodation in the IUSS residential college. The Residential College has a limited number of places available for doctorate students from the University of Ferrara. A Selection for access to the residential college will take place. 4

5 Rooms at the College are assigned for a maximum period of one year, with the option for this to be extended where suitable. During this period doctorate students are normally expected to spend a minimum of 5 nights per month in residence. Unjustified absences can lead to withdrawal of the right to this accommodation for the student in question. For further information please consult the webpage Art. 3 Doctorate Student Obligations Students enrolled are obliged to follow the doctorate courses and to continuatively complete study and research activities according to the methods stated by the Faculty of Professors. At the end of each year the Doctorate students must present a specific report on the activities and studies carried out for the Faculty of Professors, who will keep it and, following an evaluation of the assiduity and hard work demonstrated by the enrolled student, will propose to the Rector that the student be either kept in the Research Doctorate or excluded. In particular, at the end of the first year, the doctorate student must sit an evaluation test that will be aimed at ascertaining the student s ability to carry out research activity. In case of a positive result, where possible, the doctorate students will be awarded the title of MASTER OF SCIENCE AND CULTURE. The Master of Science and Culture is comparable to a University Master of the Second Level (according to the Italian D.M. 270/04) and amounts to 60 credits. Doctorate students must present a request for enrolment to the years following the first one according to the deadlines and procedures indicated at the following link: University Administration will not send any further communications regarding this. Art. 4 Award of the Title of Research Doctor The title of Research Doctor is awarded by the Rector of the University of Ferrara upon successful completion of the final examination, and upon presentation of written application. In case of a negative result this exam can be retaken only once. The title is subject to the deposit (self-archive) of the final thesis in the University Open Access Archive. The University has the responsibility to deposit the same thesis in the central national libraries of Rome and Florence. Art. 5 Personal Data Protection Personal and sensitive data provided by the candidates will be used for administrative purposes and for possible proceedings for the management of the academic career of the winners. The communication regarding the request of personal data is obligatory in order to evaluate the prerequisites for participation, or exclusion of the candidate from the selection process. The personal data provided can be communicated to the Administration of the University of Ferrara and to related external structures. The aforementioned data will be protected and used only according to situations covered in the Italian Legislative Decree 30 th June 2003 no.96 regarding the protection of personal data.
