1 Module Three 1. Le bonhomme pendu (Hangman) (Section One, Day Four; Section Three, Day Six) Player One secretly chooses a word. If he/she picks a food item, le, la or les is placed before the noun. If he/she picks the name of a family member, a possessive adjective mon, ma, mes, ton, ta, tes, son, sa, ses is placed before the noun. Example: ma tante or la carotte Player One draws one line for each letter adding a space between the article and the noun. Example: _ or _ Player Two now chooses one letter at a time using correct French pronunciation. If Player Two chooses a correct letter, Player One places it on the correct line. If the letter appears more than one time in the word, it is written in every place it occurs. For example if Player Two chooses a, Player One will write it twice. Example: _ a _ a _ or _ a _ a _ If Player Two chooses a letter that is not present, Player One places a mark on the page and Player Two chooses another letter. Lives: Player Two has eight lives. He/she can get eight marks before losing the game. As the Player Two calls out letters, Player One writes them down to keep track of what has been asked. Letters picked: A B F G Player Two may guess the word at anytime. If the guess is correct, Player Two wins. If the guess is incorrect, Player One places a mark and play continues. When Player Two has eight marks or has guessed the word, the roles change and a new game begins. Pg 147
2 2. Va à la pêche (Go Fish) (Section One, Day Five; Section Three, Day Four; Section Three, Day Nine) Pick a partner to play with. This could be a classmate or a family member. Mix up your playing cards. If you are playing with more than one person mix their decks of cards with yours. Pass five cards out to each player and place the rest in the center. Match up pairs of cards that you have in your hand before beginning. Place them face down in front of you. The player with the most cards starts. In the event of a tie, the shortest player will start. The first player asks his/her partner if he/she has a certain card. Examples: C est le muffin? Ce sont les bananes? TON cousin est gentil? Est-ce que ta mère aime les muffins? If the player asked has the card, he/she says Oui, c est le muffin. or Oui, ce sont les bananes. or Oui, MON cousin est gentil. or Oui, ma mère aime les muffins. and gives the requested card. If the player doesn t have the card he/she says Non, va à la pêche! and the player asking must pick up a card from the center pile. Now the second player asks for a card. Play continues until all the cards are matched or until one player no longer has any cards. The player with the most pairs wins. Play again! Pg 148

The oldest person turns over two cards. If the word and the picture are a match the player keeps the pair. If they are not a match the player turns them over again. The second person turns over two cards and play continues until all the pairs are matched. The winner is the one with the most pairs. Individually: Mix up the cards. Place them face down on a table. Turn over two cards. If the word and the picture are a match keep the pair. If they are not a match turn them over again. Pick again and keep track of how many times it takes you to find all the pairs. Try again and beat your score. Remember as you play to name each picture or word you turn over using the model below. 5 5. Bingo du corps/bingo des vêtements (Body Bingo/Clothes Bingo) (Section Two, Day Five; Section Two, Day Seven) Find a partner or play individually. Pick nine pictures and place one in each square of your Bingo card. Place all of the words in a container. Pick a word from the container, read it. If you have the matching picture on your card, mark it with a penny. If you don t have the picture, do nothing and pick another card. If you are playing with a partner, the first person to match all their squares wins. If you are playing individually count how many words it took to match up your squares and try to beat your score next time you play. Play as often as you would like. Pg 151
6 6. Devine qui? (Guess Who?) (Section Two, Day Nine) Find a partner, or a family member. Give one card to your partner and keep the other. Lift all the pictures on both cards so that you can see them. Refold them on the dotted lines if necessary. Choose who will be Player One and who will be Player Two. Player One looks at his/her card and chooses one of the pictures as his/her mystery person. Player Two looks at his/her card and starts to ask questions in order to guess Player One s mystery person. Player Two s questions must start with Est-ce que He/she might ask: - Est-ce qu il est un garçon? - Est-ce qu elle est une fille? - Est-ce qu il a les yeux verts? - Est-ce qu elle a les cheveux bruns? - Est-ce qu il porte des chaussures noires? - Est-ce qu elle porte une jupe grise? - Est-ce qu il est en fauteuil roulant? ***Note : you may want to use your glossary to help you with vocabulary. Player One can only answer with the words Oui or Non. Player Two narrows in on the mystery person, by folding down pictures as they are eliminated. For example: Player Two asks: Est-ce qu il est un garçon? Player One answers: Non Player Two has just been informed that the mystery person is NOT a boy. Therefore he/she would fold down all the boys on his or her playing card. Player Two continues to ask questions until all his/her pictures are folded down except One. At this time Player Two would ask if this was the mystery person. If the questioning and answering has been done correctly, it should be right! Now Player Two folds up all his/her cards and picks a mystery person. Player One now asks the questions. You may play as often as you would like. Pg 152

Read the name(s) and decide what are the gender (masculine or feminine) and the number (singular or plural) of the noun. How would you write the adjective, so that it has the same form as the noun? Check your answers at the back of the Module under Game Instructions. You may play this game with a partner or individually. Play ten times and see how many you got right. Play again and try to better you score.
