With a Gold LEED (new design) and a Platinum LEED (existing building) certification from the US Green Building Council, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center (DLCC) has hosted annual conventions, public shows, special sporting events, celebrity galas and the most prestigous to date; the 2009 G-20 Summit of world s economic leaders. Establishing the (greenfirst) program in 2008, the DLCC placed green sustainability with quality service as a top priority. Event Organizers can rest assured that every possible green component of the DLCC s operations is being addressed from recycling to green product use to conserving and protecting our natural resources including water, energy and air quality. With our commitment to green, your event s carbon imprint is reduced with no additional cost to you. The David L. Lawrence Convention Center has the operations in place to produce an environmentally friendly event. To reduce your event s carbon imprint even more, we request that you: Define hours of building operations so the DLCC operations staff can set the building systems according to occupancy and your attendee profile. Encourage attendees to comply with the posted signage to recycle all products including food waste. Request RRR report so you can celebrate your greenness. Include special green information in your event notices, bulletins and exhibitor kits. Take advantage of our complimentary water cambros instead of using bottled water. Work with our food service provider, Levy Restaurants, in planning meals using locally grown products. Communicate to your attendees the ease of Pittsburgh downtown walking and accessibility to over 175 restaurants, 40 cultural attractions, 19 hotels, three major sport arenas and over six miles of riverfront trails. Rent a bike during your visit. In addition, your purchasing choices affect your overall carbon footprint. Here are some additional suggestions to reduce your carbon imprint and produce a greener event: Recycle your badge holders Use recycled materials for tote bags and lanyards Consider using a local printer and other Pittsburgh suppliers to reduce transportation Use 100% post-consumer paper with soy based ink Use signboard made of 100% recyclable board (ie: Cloraplast) Use locally grown seasonal flowers for centerpieces instead of hot house-forced ones Use biodegradable string Use starch-based, biodegradable packing peanuts for shipping Use biodegradable cellulose available for shrink-wrapping. Avoid polystyrene, plastic wrapping and bubblewrap
