4 GENERAL RULES 1. One group of figures (including the starting foot) for each grade, except for Junior and Senior International, will be drawn and advised to the Chairman of AAC, Chairmen of Chapter Artistic Committees, the Chairman of CAOC and SA Inc. office by one month before the first day of the Australian Championship. 2. The Advanced Grade Figures will consist of two groups, Group A and Group B. Group A will be skated in the odd years and group B will be skated in the even years. 3. The draw for the Junior International Figures (group only) will be conducted and advised to Chairman of AAC, Chairmen of Chapter Artistic Committees. Chairman of CAOC and SA Inc. office by e mail one calendar month before the first day of the Australian Championship. The draw for the starting foot will be conducted the day before the official practice or as otherwise designated by the AAC. 4. The draw for the Senior International Figures (group and starting foot) will be conducted the day before the official practice or as otherwise designated by the AAC. 5. Figures will be skated in the order listed in the requirements. 6. Where there are less than 8 skaters in a figure event containing a loop figure there will be a general two (2) minute warm up immediately before and after skating of the loop, followed by a two-minute warm up for the first four (4) skaters. 7. In all events for individual skaters, male and female skaters will skate in the one event. Results for male and female skaters will be calculated separately for all events including junior & senior solo dance, but excluding all other solo dance, creative solo dance and solo free dance events. 8. Vocal music is permitted for all events except compulsory dance and compulsory solo dance. 9. Precision and Show events will be judged from the long axis of the skating surface if possible, In the circumstance where judging must be from the short axis of the rink for any reason CAOC and State Artistic Vice-presidents will be notified as soon as possible. 10. The AAC and CAOC reserve the right to modify International requirements for all disciplines, to be in line with any changes made to the requirements for the World Championship at the FATC meeting, held in the preceding year. The FATC meeting is held in conjunction with the Senior World Artistic Championship. Any changes will be notified to State Artistic Committees, Requirements Committee members, High Performance Coach and CAOC Panels as soon as possible after the relevant World Artistic Championship. 11. The AAC and CAOC will align requirements for primary, cadet, and Intermediate freeskating, dance and solo dance with European requirements for these events. 12. Skaters wishing to be considered for selection for Oceania Championships must refer to rules for Oceania selection in the current version of the AAC rules (edition ) 13. See current AAC rules (edition or later) and Skate Australia Bylaw 11 (July 2016 or later) for eligibility to nominate in events at the Australian Championship. 14. 7 DANCE PAIRS & SOLO DANCE GENERAL RULES For couples and solo dance grades the pattern published by FATC for Junior & Senior World Championship and by the AAC/CAOC in the requirements for the current year of competition MUST be used for compulsory dance. All international dances in the FATC schedule must be skated in accordance with the pattern and guidelines published by FATC (see FATC manual which can be downloaded from the FIRS web site All set pattern compulsory dance will be skated for two (2) circuits of the skating surface. Border dances will be skated for three (3) sequences Couples and Solo compulsory dances must be skated in accordance with the published pattern in the requirements for the competitive year. Compulsory Dance (Team & Solo) warm up is 15 seconds without music and two (2) minutes of music. Opening for Compulsory Dances The number of beats of music to be used for the opening sequence of all compulsory dances must not exceed 24. The timing will begin with the first movement of the skater/skaters. Entry and Exit Dance All dance requirements skaters may roll around in an area 5 meters x 5 meters at the entrance to the floor when the marks of the previous skater are being read. No jumps & no spins to be performed. Entry and exit for the floor must take no longer than 15 seconds. The penalty for each extra second will be 0.1 for compulsory dances and 0.1 from the B mark for Style Dance, CSD, OSP, Freedance and Solo Freedance. The timing will start when the skater/team is announced and moves towards the starting position. Definition of Movement A movement is defined as any movement of the arm/head/leg/foot. Lifts in Dance During any lift in any dance event it is not allowed for the lady to assume an upside down position in front of the man s face with the legs split or semi-split Vocal Music Vocal music is permitted for all events except compulsory dance and compulsory solo dance Special notes 1. The Style Dance, OSP, Freedance, Solo Freedance & CSD can be started at any place on the floor 2. A certificate of authentication of rhythms and tempo is required for the compulsory dance segment of style dance. Certificates must be handed to CAOC or AAC Chairman before the first training day. 8 General Rules OSP & CSD. Timing OSP & CSD shall consist of two (2) repetitive sequences, total time of which shall be no less than 1 minute 50 seconds and no longer than 2 minutes 40 seconds. The timing will begin with the first movement this includes the closing steps of the O.S.P or CSD. OSP & Style dance for non International events will be skated in accordance with the notes in the latest version of the SA dance manual volume 1 unless notified to the contrary ( Revision Final Take 2 Page 8 of 61

10 STYLE DANCE (COUPLES) The duration will be 2:40 +/- 10 seconds The selection of rhythms used is a minimum of two (2) and a maximum of three (3) different rhythms. The choice of two (2) rhythms may include the use of two different music selections for the same rhythm. Choice of music should be in keeping with the theme. STYLE DANCE REQUIRED ELEMENTS DANCE THEME Spanish Medley (Paso Doble, Flamenco, Tango, Spanish Waltz, Bolero Gypsie Music, Fandango). Choice of music should be in keeping with the theme. The first required element performed of each type will be the one evaluated by the judges as the required one for the current year. 1. ONE PATTERN DANCE SEQUENCE (COMPULSORY DANCE) This element consists of one (1) complete sequence of the compulsory dance selected by FIRS Artistic Technical Committee (FATC) that covers the entire skating surface, or two (2) complete sequences of a compulsory dance with a pattern that covers half of the skating floor. No stops are allowed in the execution of this element. 2. ONE (1) NO HOLD STEP SEQUENCE As selected by (FATC): 3. ONE (1) DANCE HOLD STEP SEQUENCE As selected each year by FATC: 4. ONE (1) DANCE LIFT One lift selected each year by FATC from 3 categories listed below, with a maximum duration of ten (10) seconds except for combination lift which has a maximum of twelve (12) seconds allowed: Stationary position: A lift where the sustain partner must maintain the stationary position during the entire lift, being able to perform a maximum of ½ revolution entering and ½ revolution exiting the lift and the position of the lifted partner is maintained stationary for at least three (3) seconds. Rotational: A lift with unlimited rotations, with a minimum of 1 ½ revolutions. Combination: Stationary position and rotational: a lift composed of a free succession, executed during the same lift of a stationary and rotational lift combined with each other General Rules The definition of a dance lift is as follows: A dance lift is where the lifted partner is in the air for at least two (2) seconds, less than two (2) seconds is not considered a lift. The lifts will be evaluated based on the ability of one/both skater(s), the creativity and fluidity of the lift, and the technical difficulty of the entrance and the exit The maximum duration of the lift is ten (10) seconds except for combination lift which is twelve (12) seconds The sustain partner s hands may go above their own head as long as the hips of the lifted partner remain below the sustaining partner s head. The lifted partner s hips may go above the sustaining partner s head as long as the sustaining partner s hands do not go above their own head The sustain partner may hold the lifted partner s skate and the lifted partner may be supported / sit / lie down on the skate of the sustaining partner The required lifts must be executed while skating LIMITATIONS Dance Lifts additional lifts are not permitted Revision Final Take 2 Page 10 of 61

11 Dance Spin Maximum of one (1) dance spin in hold with minimum of two (2) revolutions. Lifted spins not permitted Stop is where at least one skater is stopped for more than three (3) seconds up to a maximum of eight (8) seconds. A maximum of two (2) stops during the program. Stationary positions: kneeling/lying down on the floor is permitted only two (2) times during the entire program for a maximum of five (5) seconds each. Beginning and end of the program: the skaters may not exceed eight (8) seconds being stopped nor may they exceed a maximum allowed distance of four (4) meters between them. Dance Jumps (Jump/Assisted Jump) Maximum of two (2) jumps, each skater, of one (1) revolution each Separations: Permitted at beginning and end of program for maximum of eight (8) seconds and maximum of five (5) meters between the partners During the stop where the separation is for a maximum of eight seconds and for a maximum distance of five (5) meters For only one (1) time during the program, for characteristic steps/technical difficulties for a maximum of eight (8) seconds and for a maximum distance of five (5) meters between the partners (except where prohibited by the rules) For quick changes of position/hold between the partners Revision Final Take 2 Page 11 of 61

12 FREE DANCE JUNIOR & SENIOR 3 minutes 30 seconds (+/- 10 seconds) FREE DANCE REQUIRED ELEMENTS (COUPLES) 1 ONE (1) NO HOLD STEP SEQUENCE The baseline will be selected each year by FATC Must start from stopped position Must display high level of technical ability Minimum of two (2) different turns must be executed by each skater Steps must cover 80% of the skating surface Distance between the skaters during the step sequence must be no more than four (4) meters No stops allowed during this element 2 ONE (1) DANCE HOLD STEP SEQUENCE The baseline will be selected each year by FATC Skaters should display high level of technical ability and express it with fluidity and variety to the tempo and rhythm of chosen music Must perform a minimum of two (2) recognized dance holds (hand in hand not recognized as a dance hold Release of contact is permitted only for quick changes of dance hold A minimum of two (2) different turns must be performed by each skater No stops are allowed during the execution of this element 3 THREE (3) DANCE LIFTS Three (3) required dance lifts with a maximum duration of ten (10) seconds, except combination lift which is twelve (12) seconds, one for each typology selected from: Stationary position: A lift where the sustain partner must maintain the stationary position during the entire lift, being able to perform a maximum of ½ revolution entering and ½ revolution exiting the lift and the position of the lifted partner is maintained stationary for at least three (3) seconds. Rotational: A lift with unlimited rotations, with a minimum of 1 ½ revolutions. 13 Stops a stop is where at least one skater is stopped for more than three (3) seconds up to a maximum of eight (8) seconds. A maximum of two (2) stops are allowed during the program with a maximum distance of eight (8) meters allowed between the skaters (excluding the beginning and the end). Stationary positions: kneeling/lying down on the floor is permitted only two (2) times during the entire program including the beginning and the end, for a maximum of five (5) seconds each. Stationary positions shall not be considered as elements of technical value, but of artistic value Beginning & End of the Program: The skater may not exceed eight (8) seconds of being stopped Dance Jumps (Jump) Maximum of two (2) jumps, each skater, of one (1) revolution, not more than one (1) revolution in the air. Less than one (1) revolution is not considered a jump A maximum of two (2) assisted jumps, a maximum f one (1) revolution for the partner who jumps and half (1/2) revolution for the supporting partner Separations: Permitted at beginning and end of program for maximum of eight (8) seconds and maximum of five (5) meters between the partners During the stop where the separation is for a maximum of eight seconds and for a maximum distance of four (4) meters For only two (2) times during the program, while skating, for characteristic steps/technical difficulties for a maximum of eight (8) seconds and for a maximum distance of four (4) meters between the partners (except where prohibited by the rules) For quick changes of position/hold between the partners For further details on Style Dance and Free Dance please see the FIRS Artistic Technical Committee publications on these. ONE (1) DANCE LIFT One ROTATIONAL dance lift, with a maximum duration of ten (10) seconds: See description below Stationary position: A lift where the sustain partner must maintain the stationary position during the entire lift, being able to perform a maximum of ½ revolution entering and ½ revolution exiting the lift and the position of the lifted partner is maintained stationary for at least three (3) seconds. Rotational: A lift with unlimited rotations, with a minimum of 1 ½ revolutions. Combination: Stationary position and rotational: a lift composed of a free succession, executed during the same lift of a stationary and rotational lift combined with each other General Rules The lifts will be evaluated based on the ability of one/both skater(s), the creativity and fluidity of the lift, and the technical difficulty of the entrance and the exit The maximum duration of the lift is ten (10) seconds The sustain partner s hands may go above their own head as long as the hips of the lifted partner remain below the sustaining partner s head. The lifted partner s hips may go above the sustaining partner s head as long as the sustaining partner s hands do not go above their own head The sustain partner may hold the lifted partner s skate and the lifted partner may be supported / sit / lie down on the skate of the sustaining partner The required lifts must be executed while skating LIMITATIONS Dance Lifts additional lifts are not permitted Dance Spin Maximum of one (1) dance spin in hold with minimum of two (2) revolutions. Masters CSD must be predominately forward skating. Two foot turns are permitted to a maximum of ten (10) including forward to backward and backward to forward turns, per circuit of the rink. A penalty of 0.2 in the A mark per additional two-foot turn will be imposed by the referee. One foot turns are not permitted. A penalty of 0.2 from the A mark per one foot turn will be imposed by the referee. Backward skating between turns should be limited to 8 beats of 2/4, 4/4 time or 6 beats of ¾ time. Then and only then can the skater make a variation to the exit e.g. on the toe stop. The distance of the skater from the baseline must be no more than four (4) meters Limitations: o Minimum of two (2) revolutions per spin, the total number of spins must not exceed 2 (two) including the set element. o Small dance jumps are permitted but must not exceed one revolution, with the total number of jumps not exceeding three (3) including the set jump. For competition in Australia jumps and spins in solo dance are defined as: o Jump a recognised jump with one or two foot take off, including toe assist, one revolution in the air and a one or two-foot landing o Spin an item spun on an edge or pivot for a minimum of two (2) revolutions Deductions: o o Obvious failed or incomplete attempts will be counted as the intended item A penalty of 0.5 from the A mark will be deducted from each judge s mark by the referee for an element not performed. Bad Mapes Referee s penalty is applied by the REFEREE for bad mapes in the SHORT PROGRAM ONLY and as listed in the event requirements Acrobatic Movements (back flips and cartwheels etc.) Acrobatic movements are allowed once in the short and long program Double and Triple Jumps If the skater presents one jump three times, at least one must be in combination Additional Content SHORT PROGRAM o Penalty of 0.5 from the B mark for additional content will be applied BY THE REFEREE if a skater FALLS DOWN during a combination jump and then gets up and continues with another jump. If there is a step out between jumps the combination will have no value but there will not be a penalty for an extra element. If three jumps are presented correctly before the fall or step out the combination will be considered as executed. NOTE: The bad mapes, pumps in spins, unbalanced routine and all other errors will be downgraded by the judges in the assessment of the routine FOR ALL EVENTS A jump is not permitted in the step sequence in the SHORT program but may be integrated into the step sequence in the long program. All free skating performances will receive credit for quality of performance including quality of edge, roll and movement over the floor, quality and variety of content items, choreography, difficulty and inventiveness or entry into items and musical interpretation. All freeskating performance will be rewarded on quality and not quantity of elements. Elements that are executed poorly with insufficient rotation either in jumps or spins will receive less credit Elements that are approached and completed with spontaneity and with the minimum of obvious preparation will receive higher credit. 24 TINY TOT, PRIMARY & JUVENILE FREESKATING For Tiny Tot, Primary and Juvenile Freeskating, the emphasis in evaluation will be on performance value and quality of items presented rather than difficulty and quantity. Credit will be given for good musical interpretation, choreography, form, confidence, sureness, speed across the floor and quality of items presented. TINY TOT FREESKATING Jumps Tiny tot skaters must perform at least two (2) different jumps of one revolution or less. These may be done as single items or as a part of a combination of jumps. Maximum one (1) revolution + single axel. Maximum number of jumps = ten (10) Spins Combinations of more than five (5) jumps are not permitted Tiny Tot skaters must perform any two different one (1) or two (2) foot upright spins as single spins, change, combination or jump change spin. Compulsory Step Sequence The routine must include a straight line step sequence incorporating primary, secondary or advanced level of footwork and a loop step with the freeleg in wrapped position (like a double three starting on the outer back edge) must be good quality. Straight line is down or parallel to the long axis Compulsory Spiral The routine must contain a spiral for at least a ¼ the length of the rink, any edge. This may be on a curve or straight of length minimum 10 meters on one foot. Footwork Any amount of footwork and linking steps at any level is permitted but must be of good quality. Falls A fall leading to the penalty is when more than 50% of the body weight is supported by any part of the body except the skate/s, and will be penalised by 0.2, on each and every occasion. This amount will be deducted from the "B" mark Penalties Bad Mapes, and pumps in spins and omitted compulsory content will be downgraded by the judges (no compulsory referees penalties in this event except for falls).
