The energy balance Use/ operation Energy types The energy balance is a way of reporting real energy data for a territory in a common physical unit. It allows comparison of: Energy use in sectors Consumption of different energy types Evolution with time Benchmarking It is the basis for Monitoring of the energy system CO2 calcs
Eurostat and energy statistics Eurostat is the statistical office of the European Union. Its task is to provide the European Union with statistics at European level that enable comparisons betw een countries and regions. Data collection is done in Member States by their statistical authorities. Eurostat s role is to consolidate the data and ensure they are comparable. In order to meet the increasing requirements for energy monitoring by policy makers in Europe, Eurostat has developed a coherent and harmonised system of energy statistics. Annual data collection covers the 27 Member States of the EU, Croatia,Turkey, Iceland and Norw ay; timeseries run back to 1985 for some countries, but are more generally available from 1990.
The Eurostat Energy Balance Expressed in fuel specific units and in tonnes of oil equivalent Based on physical energy content of each source of energy References: Regulation (EC) No 1099/2008 on energy statistics. IEA-Eurostat Energy Statistics Manual, 2004 Energy Balance Sheets , Eurostat Eurostat Energy w eb page 4
The Eurostat Energy Balance The Eurostat Energy Balance contains three main blocks of row s: Top block - flow s representing energy entering and leaving the national territory as w ell as stock change to provide information on supply of energy on the national territory during the reference period; Middle block flow s show ing how energy is transformed, transferred, used by energy industries and lost in distribution and transmission; Bottom block flow s reflecting final energy consumption and non-energy use of energy products.
Eurostat Energy Balance Supply Transformation and energy industries use Non-energy use Final consumption Industry Transport Other final consumption

The energy balance in the Basque Country Annual energy balance of the region and the 3 provinces. Basis for the calculation of: CO2 emissions Energy bill Official regional statistic Prepared by EVE EVE considers the energy balance as one of the key-activities that provides a w ide overview of the energy system, so we do it by ourselves. It requires a deep know ledge of the energy system 11
