In addition to this Manager Application, DVLL requires all Managers and Coaches to submit a Little League Volunteer Application and to allow DVLL to conduct a background investigation to evaluate my qualifications to supervise youth. I understand this evaluation is conducted solely to assure the safety of children participating in the DVLL program and that all information obtained will be held in strict confidence in accordance with applicable law. Manager/Coach Selection Policy: In addition to teaching baseball and administering a team, managers and coaches are charged with developing self-discipline and good sportsmanship and serving as role models for players and parents. The board evaluates candidates based upon these requirements, including the prompt return of player evaluations, uniforms and equipment. Evidence of these attributes is collected from a variety of sources, including candidate interviews, league director evaluations, board of director experiences and evaluations and comments received from parents. Because these are our ultimate criteria and because there may be more deserving candidates than positions, managing a team one year is not a guarantee of being selected to manage a team in any other year. It is my understanding that the Managers and Coaches will be selected by the DVLL Manager/Coach Committee and the most qualified candidates will be reviewed for approval. I have read the CODE OF CONDUCT and agree to abide by these standards and to observe the DVLL and Little league International published rules and regulations and I agree to complete a Volunteer Background Application form. I understand that any violation of the Little League rules, local ground rules, DVLL Safety Rules or the Code of Conduct will result in disciplinary action by the BOARD OF DIRECTORS that may include in the immediate removal from the program. 4 Deer Valley Little League MANAGER/COACH CODE OF CONDUCT I hereby pledge to live up to my endorsement as a Deer Valley Little League manager/coach by following the Little League International rules, the DVLL Bi-Laws and abiding by the Coach's Code of Conduct: 1. I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win. 2. I will treat each player as an individual, remembering the large range of emotional and physical development for the same age group. 3. I will do my best to provide a safe playing environment for my players. 4. I will review and practice basic first aid principles needed to treat injuries of my players. 5. I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all my players. 6. I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to all my players. 7. I will not cheat or engage in any form of unethical behavior that violates league rules. 8. I will provide a sports environment for my team that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. 9. I will be knowledgeable in the rules of each division that I coach, and I will teach these rules to my players. 10. I will use coaching techniques appropriate for the skills that I teach. 11. I will remember that I am a youth sports coach, and that the game is for children and not adults. 12. I will not be guilty of mingling with or fraternizing with spectators during the course of the game. 13. I will not be guilty of tampering or manipulation of any league rosters, schedules, draft positions or selections, official score books, rankings, financial records or procedures. 14. I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league. 15. I will not gamble upon any play or outcome of any game with anyone at any time. 16. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition. 17. I agree to never use abusive or profane language 18. I agree to appropriately question an umpire s call and will never behave in a manner that would show up or disrespect any and all calls made by an umpire. 19. I will remain inside the dugout during defensive innings and offensive innings unless coaching a base 20. I agree to file, in writing to the League Board of Directors complaints regarding: violation of rules, questionable conduct such as abusive behavior by a player, coach or fan and irreconcilable personality conflicts at president@deervalleylittleleague.com 21. I will inform the player agent of any situation or player that may affect the safety of my players or the safety of others. 22. I will be responsible for my team s trash and will help by doing my part to keep the complex clean and litter free. Any manager/coach guilty of improper conduct at any game or practice will be asked to leave the baseball facility and be suspended from the following game. Repeat violations may cause a multiple game suspension, or the season forfeiture and the privilege of attending all games and managing/coaching an All Star team.
